Power windows is better just grease it change the cable, if your window is slow and stuck it obviously needs TLC
New subscriber here... Currently waiting on a window sash for my 87 suburban from LMC . I may convert mine to manual roll up as well. I appreciate the videos sir!
Would this work for the suburbans?
I know this is old but this helped me tremendously. Resurrecting an 87 my dad gave up on and let sit for 30 years, whose demised started because the rear glass wouldn’t go up after having the motor replaced. Huge thanks.
I cannot tell you how much these comments mean to me. I am so glad it helped! Now that the window works, what part of the truck are you working on next?
@@philsgarage7092 splitting my time depending on weather. It’s frustrating, as no one part finished (I love how you say that’s how you’re doing it btw I’m so jealous lol), but as of now I’m stuck working outside and it’ll make things seem “fast” as they get completed. Completed rear suspension. Wire wheeling and painting under carriage and frame while gas tank is out, new tank and lines in hand. Rear brakes parts arriving this week so rear brakes will be next week. Front suspension parts in hand, PTSD from cutting rear off keeping me from starting the front 😂 For a smaller victory, should have doors done inside and out this month too. Have made steady progress over the past 3 months, and without exaggeration, your video helped maintain the momentum to get me to the “point of no return,” where I’m far enough along that I can’t quit AND everything left is achievable. I know it’s not much but I hope you know doing that video-as frustrating as I’m sure it was 😂-made a huge difference for me.
Im in the same boat! Just got an 87 with the rear glass stuck down, window sash was so rusted it crumbled apart. LMC came thru with all the needed parts, coupled with this video it made an easy fix back to perfect working condition. Awesome video man!
@@kld997 heck yes! LMC was a life changer. Hope she gets going for you! If it weren’t for this video, I’d have been a lot left successful and said a lot more swear words
Pudo conseguir las piesas o el repuesto??
The cable broke with window down how do i get the window out now?
This was extremely helpful. Thanks
Instead of converting why don’t you trade for my manual tailgate? I want a power window.
I know this video was posted a long time ago but I’d love a reply. 😅. I need to replace my Manuel crank’s locking mechanism. So In terms of bolts, there’s 4 on the window mechanism that have have to be removed, but if the window is rolled up, with the door down, I’ll have to support the glass and then have a little maneuverability of the mechanism so I can access the crank’s two bolts? Once re installed just put the four bolts back in and insure everything rolls up and down correctly?
The flag on the ground is a big NONO to keep watching..
I could not agree more. I did not notice that until after the video was shot. I tried to address this with a comment to my video, but I respect your concern.
I need a set of the bottom torsion bar brackets can anyone help me out
Did mine today thanks for posting that, not the easiest thing to do.
Thank you for the post about your flag, that was very respectful thing to do and I as well as any American watching your videos really appreciate brother , keep up the good work bro your videos rock!!!!
Super helpful video. Converted my electric to manual with ease. Thx again.
Very helpful I converted mine today and thank you!
About to tackle this project. Thanks for the vid. 87 Blazer.
Great video thanks
How goes the build Phil?
Sorry for losing your job but you could make money from RUclips videos
Those second generation Chevrolet K5 Blazers & GMC Jimmys were produced from 1973 through 1991. Same with the seventh generation Suburbans & third generation C/K series pickups except the regular cab pickups were discontinued in 1987, but just the half ton & three quarter ton models, & the one ton models were discontinued in 1989. In 1987, the C/K series was dropped & changed to R/V series to make a distinction between them & the upcoming fourth generation C/K series pickups for the 1988 model year & help avoid confusion with the two different body designs. Also 1987 was the first year for gasoline fuel injected motors. 1980 was the first year for square shaped headlamps & last year for round shaped headlamps. The square shaped headlamps came standard on models with the Silverado & Sierra Classic trim levels & optional on models with the other trim levels.
You look like Eminem right now ❤️😂😂😂
We tried to change our electric tailgate window regulator to manual bought 2 handles and 3 regulator units that go in the tailgate and none will work or roll up more than 2 revolutions. How did yours work and what did you do to make it work. Incidentally 2 of the regulators came from LMC and 1 from Canada!
This is perfectly explained. Great clip thanks bro!!!
Micah, thanks for your comment. It made my day. If I had my choice, I would be wrenching on this thing every day, but knowing that someone out there is still getting value from it is a great feeling.
Hey !! Are you still working on the K5 ??
I might be dumb, did anyone ask why you preferred to convert to manual vs the electric? I just picked up a functional electric version I might retro fit on a 76….
Great question. The short answer is simplicity and reliability. The ability to get in and out of the back when the battery is dead is also a big benefit.
How’d you get torsion today off? Nobody ever shows that part.
If I were you, I would remove this video. No one like to look at the flag on the ground.
awesome thanks for your help
Incredibly helpful. Thank you sir.
When is the next video coming?! I can't wait much longer!!
Will you still be able to use the electric switch in the cab with the new regulator or is 100 percent manual now?
100% manual. Electronics in my truck just weren't reliable.
Pretty sure you don’t know what you’re doing.
Where would a guy find replacement hinges, I can't find the hing style, just the old cup style
Where did you go bro?!
I'm so glad I found this video! I've got a '73 and the window gets stuck and you can feel it slipping in there when trying to crank it up. I think it's just the regulator that needs replaced and I thought it'd be much more complicated than this.
Can i change my 1990 electric tailgate window to manual ?
Lmc parts list says the manual window regulator will fit 73’ to 89’ - will this swap work on a 1990 tail gate ? Going from electric to manual
I just bought an 88 K5 in February 2021. This video is GOLD! I hate the power window and how loud and slow it is and I will be making this conversion. Thank you!
How did it go? Do you know what parts you used.
Good job on the conversion, you and your Helper Ninja made a good video. As for the body shops and their reluctance to get involved in your project, with well over 40 years experience, I'll do my best to explain. First off, that is at minimum, a 30 year old ride, and will be covered in dents. Small ones that you may not see until it has shiny paint highlighting each and every one, but they are there. It is just normal wear and tear, and would take a guy an hour at least to point them all out. Next, the fit and finish is crap compared to today's rides, the good old days were not that good. Now, for the "I'll do all of the prep work and you can just paint it" crowd, who are you going to say painted it? And if your prep work is no bueno, and looks like crap, are you going to put a sign on it explaining? Big can o worms there. The bottom line on a really nice paint job, especially if you want it sanded and buffed so it looks like today's new vehicles, will be an easy 10-15k. If you are getting prices like Maaco, good luck.
Don, Thank you for your comment. That makes sense to me. It is great to have such constructive and knowledgeable feedback.
@@philsgarage7092 Thank you Phil. It has been 30 years since I messed with a squarebody gate, this was a good refresher, and you got to suffer the aggravation 😉 I hope I didn't sound like I was ranting on the paint/body issue, there are many issues, rhymes and reasons involved, and for Heaven's sake we don't need any more patina rides out there.
I hope you are doing well by now
Are them LMC parts good or are they just junk???
where is window sash assembly???????
Hi I know this is an older video but do you have to remove the tailgate from the vehicle?
Thanks for the question, Charlie. No, as a matter of fact leaving it on your truck is actually the best way to do it. I took mine off because I was going to repaint it after I finished.
Glad I found your video. I’ve been debating on doing this with my 76 Suburban. I can’t find a motor for it and I was actually considering converting it to barn doors using the parts from a 78 I have. But seeing how easy this is I’ll just do this. Thanks for the video. Great job.
How long did it take total to do this?
Helped me out quite a bit, thanks for this awesome video & thanks for supporting Homes For Our Troops.. I see you’ve been to a volunteer day. 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Where do you purchase the regulator?
Great video! I'm having a little trouble with my electric window. Key switch to lower and lift window doesn't work anymore. My window motor works, just needs some work on new rollers, needs new window rubber. If all else fails I will go to manually. Thanks!
same. I just ordered the parts to go manual.
Where did you bought the whole kit?
Thanks for the great info!
