Really big deal since the covenant is also trying to figure out where he's going to land. The Pelican hovering over them is there to pick up the coordinates once the RangeFinder confirms it. Once getting the coordinates it flys off to pick up Chief. Likely taking about a day to arrive there. (Since Chief crashes at night, then is recovered in the morning). That pelican had to get from Afghanistan to Kenya, and it can be assumed that Johnson and his squad are onboard that Pelican.
You do realize that it was planned that this should become a movie by Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp and the Weta Workshop Studio (who build the Hog) but there were problems with money or something

There's something just totally badass about commercial sector factories being requisitioned for UNSC military production after the fall of reach, Earth being put into total war status in a last ditch effort to protect the only remaining major human planet. I assume conscription was introduced too.

If you think about some of the weapons calibers, you begin to ask yourself, how the hell the marines can fire them like that. That's especially true for the sniper rifle.

The AR uses the same ammo as the M14 making it effectively a LMG. Firing that full auto on long bursts should basically dislocate a marine shoulder. Spartans are obviously a different thing.

I love the intro to this. Instead of just combat footage it contextualizes the story. Humanity is at peak military efficiency, churning out equipment to immediately arm soldiers. This is the kind of thing that grounds Halo is reality instead of just feeling like space wizards or something.
This is such a depressing story. The pelican is there and it doesn’t pick them up, why? Because it’s needed to get to the team picking up chief asap. They’re running low on ammo, meaning they were sent in under equipped or held the position for longer than they thought they needed. Can you do your job? That ODST died simply to use a piece of equipment to track chief. Everyone who died here died just so they could get chiefs landing position logged. You never see this in the game at all, but imagine it, boot up halo 3 and when you’re in that jungle with Johnson, just think, that the reason they’re there so quick is because of this team. It just really sums up the desperation of humanity at this point, but also the hope chief gave them. Sending a team of not just marines but ODST, the best of the best of the regular infantry; the future of special forces, to log a fall trajectory of someone they know is their last hope. The ODST in the beginning, “package retrieved” they’re rummaging through rubble. I assume either their team, a different ODST team, or maybe even marines was on that job before them and got hit, they’re not the first choice to do this and still they do it. Still they die for it. I wonder if they’re even the second team, maybe the UNSC is playing hot potato with that piece of equipment between doomed teams of infantry to try and get it into position despite heavy covenant forces.
Gamassin1 ____ most of the unsc fleet was being annihilated at the time. Remember their biggest outpost was reach and they got overwhelmed by the covenant.
@@DTS214 Never even played the game in my life and at the time, i knew pretty much fuck all about Halo Lore so sorry if i sounded obnoxious, yeah i'm aware now today that the Covenant at the time had one hell of a technological advantage over the UNSC by a long mark.
@top kek Not only that, they had far better technology and veterans of war due to their culture, something i learnt a couple of years later but at the time of posting, didn't.
these trailers did such a good job showing how much we the player as the master chief meant to the story and how willing many of the UNSC were to give their lives for you. These guys weren't even sure you'd survive the landing yet they still fought like hell just to make sure they'd know for a fact where you'd end up just in case there was that small chance the chief made it or just to recover your body. This and the "Believe" trailers set in the museum were probably the best at showing just how much of a badass chief was.
It's cool to see the equipment on the manufacturing line.
Little lore: these are the same marines that sgt. Johnson Commanded saving master chief on re entry. Flies away
