I didn't realize this trailer was in the demo/trailer section of the BRUTE FORCE menu until months after having bought that game. I was 10 years old at the time and lost my shit when I found it. I miss being a kid and getting really excited for stuff like this.
I remember getting to see the brute force trailer on a demo I got from a magazine subscription! Then saw this on the brute force menu! My mind was blown and bought every available halo book at the time to read them!
This trailer hit sooo different when it first dropped. It was one of the greatest game related things I had seen. Enough hype to fuel th excitment for two years.
That’s why I’m here . Just bought Doom Eternal and thought of this trailer. I’m glad Doom made a great comeback in 2016, I honestly think they need to reboot Halo.
@@AverageJoe483 They need to remake the games with the vision that they originally had for them. Sadly most of the original devs don't work for 343 Guilty Spark.
The OG trilogy still has some of the greatest cinematography moments to ever grace video games. I still remember being absolutely stunned how cool Halo 2's cut scenes looked back then. I still go back and run through the campaigns every few years, and every time I still don't skip the cut scenes.
Oh my god. So THAT'S how that track is supposed to sound. Can't believe I've only ever listened to the anniversary track and not marty's true masterpiece.
It definitely hits different for us who grew up with it way back when. The anniversary version is good, don't get me wrong, but the original just has a sense of hope in the hopelessness of the situation. Also something that you won't get in the Scorpion Mix from H2A is the absolute beastly legendary guitar riffs from Steve Vai's contributes to the original Mjolnir Mix.
If they ever make an SPV3 mod for Halo 2, it better have this whole sequence including the whole cut Marathon Infinity beta style level following it, expanded New Mombasa including both demo areas and ODST locations like what SPV3 for Halo 1 does, Forerunner Tank, everything SPV3 for Halo 1 has mechanic wise retrofitted for Halo 2's gameplay, drivable shadows including troop carrier ones in SP & MP, drivable _scarabs_ (Halo 2 model ONLY) and the conduit at the end of High Charity replaced with Black Dimund's restored cut Warthog Run. If they decide to add a new final chief level on the key ship to tie it to Halo 3, that would also be welcome.
If the "final chief level" is as it was supposedly reconstructed a while back, I'm glad they left it out. It felt very cheap, especially after Halo 1's Warthog run and in retrospect Halo 3's. Halo 3's Warthog run already felt incredibly cheap and cheezy. Having them in all 3 games would be terrible
@@Dennis19901 I didn't find it cheesy. The Guilty Spark boss I found too easy and out of nowhere though. I think the problem with the Halo 2 one is that there didn't seem to be a time limit like the other two, plus it couldn't be done on vanilla Legendary thanks to snipers and awkward fall damage when ramping the warthog off certain jumps near the start. All it needs is the stakes to be raised a little and the warthog run to be actually put in the normal High Charity level, replacing only the original conduit map at the end instead of the whole level like the current version does. That last bit does indeed feel a little cheap, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt as it least we _have_ it. It just needs the rest of the level leading up to it as well.
@@lionocyborg6030 I'm sorry, but how didn't those large plates exploding and breaking away didn't feel cheap. 1. They happen to always break away just right after you pass them What a coincidence!!! 2. It's poorly textured any animated 3. It's a copy-paste throughout the entire section of a handful of elements. It honestly feels like they ran completely out of time when they did this warthog run in Halo 3. I love the game, but that ending sequence is just really poorly done compared to the quality the rest of the game offers. I mean, compare literally any other level to that warthog section of "Halo". It's almost painful. It looks like a student project or something...
@@Dennis19901 I think the idea is that those panels are supposed to be scaffolding for the ring, but you are right in that it's copy pasted a few times. However, while I can't say much for the animations, I never really noticed them as the panels actually do break away before and during you passing them too, in explosions, but you'd only see that on higher difficulties such as Legendary. On Easy and Normal. less of the panels blow and they're a lot more predictable, making it just as a cakewalk as you say. I used to play all Halo games on those two difficulties a lot, which is how I know. The rest of it collapsing into the void is slow but it does happen if you dawdle. That part is more noticeably cheaply animated as they just detach and drop off. It would have been nice for that to instead be the simulated physics destruction like in Source engine games (Half Life 2 Episode 2, Portal 2 and Black Mesa to be precise), with the scaffold warping and getting shaken apart like concrete highways during a particularly bad earthquake. I said I didn't find it cheesy partly because I still don't and partly because when I first played back when it came out on Xbox 360 I was 11, so anything bad about it was lost on me. I do admit with hindsight it could indeed have been better than it turned out, which is not that different to how I feel about a lot of my favourite games. Perhaps if they did the above idea for the collapse animations and interspersed it with some driving over unfinished areas recognised from the original game instead of just the empty semi-canyons of rebar panels and tunnels as in the final game; those should have been the transition points between said Halo 1 areas instead of the whole section. it would feel a bit more climatic that way, seeing areas you knew and loved from Halo 1 gradually fall apart as you try to escape. Maybe that's an idea for a mod on MCC PC. After all, SPV3 added Alpha Base from the Halo 1 book and the Warthog Run restore for Halo 2 showed it could work, though the latter needs a bit of tweaking to make it perfect as I said.
@@lionocyborg6030 I don't understand why the plates and collapsing is really required. I understand the scaffolding somewhat, but even for that it looks cheap and unlogical too. Sentinels are the ones who maintain and construct the rings, they can fly, why would they need scaffolding? And the mountainous terrain of Halo Rings sure isn't going to get supported by the thin plates shown during that level. They could have as well added a timer similar to Halo CE, since there was an obvious time-able deadline (the firing of the Halo) And yes, first impressions are never a reliable measuring mechanism. You should revisit the game in the current time and compare the quality of the rest of the game to the second section of the last level. It's appalling almost.
I can’t tell you how many times I watched this like 15 years ago looking forward to Halo 2’s release. Here I am today on RUclips looking this up along with those amazing Halo 3 “believe” trailers. If that doesn’t say something about the lasting impact of a game franchise, I don’t know what does. Here’s to hoping they get Infinite right. The boy in me is hoping for another epic campaign finale with a gut-wrenching warthog sprint. I’d be happy if I never hear “Fireteam Osiris” again.
THIS is Halo. Still get chills when the score comes in at 1:16. I remember being in primary school and watching this trailer on repeat every day until release looking at every detail. The hype for this game was amazing.
This trailer was so amazing that it's regarded as myth at this point. The Paramount Halo show will never understand the soul that made Halo great in the first place. This more greatness in these 2 minutes of the cllip than the entirety of the first episode of the show.
I just love to imagine the other end of that call: "Admiral, tell your men to hold their positions, reinforcements are on the spoke." "The entire fleet is engaged Cortana. With respect, what the hell sort of reinforcement have you got?!" *"Sir, Spartan 117 reporting."* "Chief? ... Thank the almighty ... we're saved."
I mean, technically we only saw part of the apocalypse, the covenant had been landing everywhere on earth, dropping bombs, glassing, destroying ships. We only saw a single city and a single station.
Honestly, Halo 2's story is the best in the series so I can't fault it for taking a great left turn. This is what Halo 3 should have been with the proper invasion of Earth.
@@yugene-lee The Covenant didn't land everywhere on Earth. They only landed in two locations - Africa and Chicago. At least that applies to the Bungie era.
@@christopherhawkins1770 I think they also landed troops in Sydney, it's been awhile since I read it but I'm pretty Ghosts of Onyx opens with blue team being charged with protecting UNSC headquarters there.

Halo 1 and 2 will always have a place in my heart. Halo 3 and Reach are good too. After that, it keeps getting worst. But even Halo 3/Reach will never produce the same sense of nostalgia and the feels that I had for Halo 1 and 2. I would definitely pay for a total remake of Halo 2 with the original vision they had in mind for that game though (this trailer and the E3 gameplay demo)!
I wonder if originally Halo 2 was gonna have you jump from Cairo onto Regret's ship and assassinate him.The radio chatter hosts someone asking Fleet Admiral Harper to redirect the Orbitals and take out Regret's ship, but Harper refuses to aim for Regret's ship and have to potentially let another ship escape the Orbitals' kill zone. Master Chief went EVA without a bomb, and Cortana stated that the ODPs wouldn't have to retarget, because reinforcements had arrived. I wonder what that would've been like.
You were meant to enter the Covenant ship that way without the bomb, fight to the reactor core and nuke it with wraiths to blow it up. It would have served as Miranda Keyes' main introduction, though she would originally have betrayed you as in earlier drafts of the story, she blamed John for Captain Keyes' death, which is the only part of that cut level I could do without. Gameplay wise including the EVA sequence in the trailer, it was based on a similarly cut sequence in Bungie's older game Marathon Infinity aka Marathon 3. In that, the map "Naw Man, He's Close" would have had Marcus Jones (the cyborg protagonist of that game) propel himself from Tycho's ship to Durandal's the exact same way as Halo 2 was meant to have, before fighting along the hull and climbing a big tower surrounded by a liquid version of the thundrilium crystals from the good i.e. 2011 version of Thundercats (no, seriously. That's what the pink Pfhor slime was) to get into the ship. Then you'd spend a few more maps fighting to Durandal's core in order to destroy it. The map name and space BASE jump were a reference to the bridge scene in Apocalypse Now. However, the whole part was cut including the tower when lead writer Greg Kirkpatrick finished the design of the map (likely due to Forge/Weland's map space grid being too fucking small compared to Ion Maiden's version of Build or Brutal Doom ED's GZ Doom), so the map now begins with the player spawning in what I presume was meant to be the hull breach on top of the tower that they were trying to enter the ship by.
First saw this trailer in the extras on brute force by accident..... BEST ACCIDENT EVER! I remember the goosebumps & nostalgia I felt when I 1st saw this, MY GOD I WISH THAT I COULD GO BACK & EXPERIENCE IT AGAIN!
man, I havent had an xbox since '15 , and then stumbled across halo infinity trailer. had some nerd chills but overall looked dissappointing. So I watched this and got MEGA nerd chills as if I was in middle school, such a fucking epic game. RIP MC
The absolute matter of fact statement of "stop destruction of human race - in progress" with that music in the background is easily one of the most bad ass, hair raising, eyes sweating, dick hardening things every conjured. A) it sounds like an impossible task B) HE FUCKING DOES IT ANYWAY It's a crying shame there is nothing exactly like this in Halo 2, and the giving covenant back their bomb barely makes up for it.
I remember seeing this trailer when I was 11 years old, and was absolutely fucking blown away by what seemed like a huge jump in graphics and atmosphere. Just pure nostalgia. I've been a Playstation gamer for the last 10 years or so, but God damn I miss the Halo series. What a trip down memory lane it would be to play the MCC and go through H1, 2, and 3.
Interestingly this trailer was legit, in the sense that with all the lighting and shadows, it was still running on the actual Xbox hardware. The problem was, the lighting system was just too resource-intensive for regular gameplay, and so could only play smoothly for very specific, controlled conditions like this cutscene of a dude just walking down hallways.
This game had the most impact on me. Don't get me wrong the first one was amazing but this is one was just better in my opinion. My dad let me take school off and took me to Gamestop to pick it up. We played it for hours. I was in the 7th grade. Good ass times!
Indeed. But the OG xbox genuinely didn't have the power to handle the graphics like this they wanted all while running the Halo sandbox (the level sizes, AI, vehicles, scripting etc). In the making of they talk about how they massively overestimated what they though they could squeeze out of the original xbox.
God, you know you're old when you remember watching this on the 'net when it came out and thinking "man, those graphics are awesome!" Now 18 years later and they seem kind of dated. It still gives me goosebumps to see "Stop Destruction of Human Race: In Progress", though. I remember how freakin' cool it was to look forward to fighting in places that weren't just repetitive Forerunner corridors.

Paramount shoulda taken lessons from this trailer. No Phil Collins. No Chevy Tahoe. Just reinforcements
The opening of Doom Eternal reminded me of this trailer. Hell, Doom Eternal feels like the Halo 2 we would've gotten if time hadn't gotten in the way.
That’s why I’m here . Just bought Doom Eternal and thought of this trailer. I’m glad Doom made a great comeback in 2016, I honestly think they need to reboot Halo.
Doom eternal is so fucking good
@@AverageJoe483 They need to remake the games with the vision that they originally had for them. Sadly most of the original devs don't work for 343 Guilty Spark.
@@AverageJoe483 Halo Infinite is considered like as a spiritual reboot, so yeah, Halo is getting a reboot of sorts.
Disagree big time. Doom eternal and doom 2016 are just a shade better than cod to me... Sorry lol. Unpopular opinion.
The OG trilogy still has some of the greatest cinematography moments to ever grace video games.
I still remember being absolutely stunned how cool Halo 2's cut scenes looked back then.
I still go back and run through the campaigns every few years, and every time I still don't skip the cut scenes.
Cortana's delivery is just perfect.
Happy birthday, masterpiece!
20 years ago to the day fellas. Peak moment in time.
Still get chills all these years later…
my god I used to watch this trailer all the time....the nostalgia hit like crazy
I must’ve watched this 100 times when this came out
This is what Halo should be,its not another game, its a masterpiece
I reminder watching this on my Xbox magazine dvd and it got me so stoked. In fact, it still gets me stoked.
Happy 20th Anniversary Halo 2
I can’t remember the last time I felt the original amount of hype for a game trailer like this.
Really. I come herr occasionally
Last time I remember was Halo 3. That was on a whole new lvl. Halo 4 had hype but never compared.
Happy 20th Anniversary to Halo 2!
1:40, most epic line in the history of humanity
2. It's poorly textured any animated
They could have as well added a timer similar to Halo CE, since there was an obvious time-able deadline (the firing of the Halo)
And yes, first impressions are never a reliable measuring mechanism. You should revisit the game in the current time and compare the quality of the rest of the game to the second section of the last level. It's appalling almost.
How on Earth did Halo 2 come out 20 years ago?! Where does the time go...
in 2 minutes and 37 seconds a better story than the halo show is told. Still gives me goosebumps. Unforgivable heresy what paramount has done
Happy Birthday
Happy 17 years
2024 still one of the best game trailers ever made.
THIS is Halo. Still get chills when the score comes in at 1:16. I remember being in primary school and watching this trailer on repeat every day until release looking at every detail. The hype for this game was amazing.
Happy Birthay Halo 2 🎂🥳 20 years
2:02 gets me emotional
The hype that surrounded Halo 2 is unmatched, it's not even a contest.
This trailer was so amazing that it's regarded as myth at this point. The Paramount Halo show will never understand the soul that made Halo great in the first place. This more greatness in these 2 minutes of the cllip than the entirety of the first episode of the show.
Back when life was simpler
This singular piece of halo cinematography is the reason i am a die hard fan of this franchise!
We gotta take this thing out, cover me!
Happy 18th Halo 2!
It's 2023 and I still find myself back here.
I just love to imagine the other end of that call:
"Admiral, tell your men to hold their positions, reinforcements are on the spoke."
"The entire fleet is engaged Cortana. With respect, what the hell sort of reinforcement have you got?!"
*"Sir, Spartan 117 reporting."*
"Chief? ... Thank the almighty ... we're saved."
I remember watching this a million times before the game came out.
Most anticipated games of my entire youth alongside with mgs2 . This trailer is like a soft pilow of nostalgia...
"Reinforcements are on the spoke"... To hear that in your helmet while watching the world being torn apart. Stuff of legends.
Back when we all thought Halo 2 was about the "Goddamn Apocalypse" instead of a 2 level skirmish.
@@williamcostigan91 ghosts of onyx opens in 2531 on planet Victoria. Section 3 if the book begins off the coast of Cuba where Blue Team destroy one of Earth's space tethers. I don't recall Syndey. Been a while since I've read it myself though. Lots of lore to keep up with in the Halo world
How does this still give me chills..
2021 and I will always remember my first Halo
Halo 1 and 2 will always have a place in my heart. Halo 3 and Reach are good too. After that, it keeps getting worst. But even Halo 3/Reach will never produce the same sense of nostalgia and the feels that I had for Halo 1 and 2. I would definitely pay for a total remake of Halo 2 with the original vision they had in mind for that game though (this trailer and the E3 gameplay demo)!
We need yo get back to Halo and trailers for Halo's like this
I wonder if originally Halo 2 was gonna have you jump from Cairo onto Regret's ship and assassinate him.The radio chatter hosts someone asking Fleet Admiral Harper to redirect the Orbitals and take out Regret's ship, but Harper refuses to aim for Regret's ship and have to potentially let another ship escape the Orbitals' kill zone.
Master Chief went EVA without a bomb, and Cortana stated that the ODPs wouldn't have to retarget, because reinforcements had arrived. I wonder what that would've been like.
YDidU it triggered me to know that there was supposed to be a warthog run but they saved it for halo 3
Happy 16th birthday Halo 2! 👏🏿🙌🏿Miss you Bungie..
First saw this trailer in the extras on brute force by accident..... BEST ACCIDENT EVER! I remember the goosebumps & nostalgia I felt when I 1st saw this, MY GOD I WISH THAT I COULD GO BACK & EXPERIENCE IT AGAIN!
The hype was astronomical
man, I havent had an xbox since '15 , and then stumbled across halo infinity trailer. had some nerd chills but overall looked dissappointing. So I watched this
and got MEGA nerd chills as if I was in middle school, such a fucking epic game.
RIP MC
If you look at the new screenshots they look WAY WAY More better than the demo from last year and we are getting new gameplay next week
Here because I just finished Halo CE and I’m hyping MYSELF up before I play Halo 2 …. And it’s working 😁
2023…. We’re still here Chief.
The intensity of the comms + the music is what gets me
"you damn fool, why do you always jump. One of these days your gonna hit something as stubborn as you are"
God. The way the sound ends with the title emergence. It's the most powerful feeling.
When I asked for reinforcements... didn’t think they send a Spartan
The absolute matter of fact statement of "stop destruction of human race - in progress" with that music in the background is easily one of the most bad ass, hair raising, eyes sweating, dick hardening things every conjured.
A) it sounds like an impossible task B) HE FUCKING DOES IT ANYWAY
It's a crying shame there is nothing exactly like this in Halo 2, and the giving covenant back their bomb barely makes up for it.
Funny how you can hear Captain Keyes speaking through the comms in the intro.
I'm pretty sure that's the guy who voices Sergeant Stacker.
Yup, Pete Stacker. He voices Keyes in Halo CE and Reach as well.
@@meowsandstuff same voice doesn't mean same character
@@yugene-lee What? No wonder I've been so confused.
The Best halo game out of the series no question
There is one song is from a level called Gravemind, it's a song from Breaking Benjamin, it's called Blow Me Away.
Chills every time I watch this! Amazing!
Even to this day Halo still doesn't look this good...
Remeber seeing this trailer on a demo disc that came with the og official xbox magazine.
Hey that's exactly why I stopped by!!!
Remember the disc with NBA street vol.2 and Amped? I miss those days and the magazine demos!!
2024 checken in again hope you soldiers are all well!
Goosebumps at 0:01
I'm not a Halo fan, but this trailer gives me goosebumps.
This game had the most impact on me. Don't get me wrong the first one was amazing but this is one was just better in my opinion. My dad let me take school off and took me to Gamestop to pick it up. We played it for hours. I was in the 7th grade. Good ass times!
I still remember waiting over an hour for this trailer to download
Happy 16th Anniversary...Halo 2
If only they could have retained this lighting for the final game.
So close to PURE eye candy.
Indeed. But the OG xbox genuinely didn't have the power to handle the graphics like this they wanted all while running the Halo sandbox (the level sizes, AI, vehicles, scripting etc). In the making of they talk about how they massively overestimated what they though they could squeeze out of the original xbox.
Brings me chills every time I see this trailer they surely don’t make games like this anymore bring halo back
God, you know you're old when you remember watching this on the 'net when it came out and thinking "man, those graphics are awesome!" Now 18 years later and they seem kind of dated.
It still gives me goosebumps to see "Stop Destruction of Human Race: In Progress", though. I remember how freakin' cool it was to look forward to fighting in places that weren't just repetitive Forerunner corridors.
I remember watching either TechTv or G4 and seeing this on one of their shows at 2 am and being blown away. Must’ve been in 2002 or 2003, I was only 10 or 11

Thought she said "bespoke".
This isn't flying, it's falling with style!
Greatest FPS campaign of all time.
Agreed
“The ENTIRE fleet is engaged, Cortana. With respect, what the hell kind of reinforcements have you got?!”
All that you need to win, admiral.
