I custom built a 10/22 and from the receiver up and it LOVES CCI standard also, green tags and the like. Surprisingly, it doesn't like SK match or federal match (worst performer of all).
You're right on wanting a high power scope on your .22. My grandfather used to compete in BR-50 ( .22, benchrest from 50 yards ), and was in the magazines back in the day. I asked him once what power scope was best for that and he said "enough that i can count the hairs on a fly's ass from 50 yards" lol....he later said around 40-50 power. He also mentioned preferring Eley ammo.
People forget that a lot of extremely high precision shooting isn't at crazy long distances where you need a big cartridge and ultra-high muzzle velocity. A lot of it is chasing that bullet caliber group at 100 yards or consistently putting dozens of rounds in the ten ring in a row under time at 50 yards.
I have the same rifle. It took quite a few rounds down the tube and better ammo to get better groups. Most rimfire BR is at 50 yards. I really like the rifle.
One of my buddies loves .22 rimfire. He had Bergara, Cz and Vudoo. We were shooting and I mentioned an old guy who shoots competition I talked with. I was building a 10/22 for my son. The old guy said just go buy a Tikka. You can thank me later. I looked and looked but they were sold out everywhere. That was a few year's ago. So I built the 10/22 instead. Fast forward to telling my friend this and he bought one of the Tikka. He took his Vudoo to the ammo place in Ohio and had all the ammo tested through it for best. Today he says if I knew about the Tikka, I wouldn't have bought the Vudoo. So the old guy, "Doc" at a local gun store that shoots competition and runs them was truthful. Just a heads up on a factory rifle that shoots with custom bolt rifles.
Got to love Savage. The 64 in the designation is the year it came out. Used to be Cooey rifle Co, out of Canada. Savage bought it out years ago. AFAIK it is still made in Canada. Got one 2 years ago for $120 out the door. It's a fun accurate piece, but it sure looks different in that fancy chassis and heavy barrel. Love the plastic enhancement on the old Cooey magazine.
The original Cooey 64 was a bit scary as it had no safety, imagine carrying it rabbit hunting with a round in the chamber and no safety, catch a small branch on the trigger, could be a bad outcome. Glad Lakefield added the safety before Savage bought the design.
The combination you used here, this rifle, Remington ammo, super zoomie scope, a flock of sweat bees, and a Tennessee Marksman, should be great for small game out to 50 yards. My suggestion for 100 yards accuracy is to replace the Tennessee Marksman with your son. Excellent video.
Back in the late 70's I used a Weaver T10 scope and shot small bore metallic silhouette matches, from 40 m to 100m. It's 1/5 scale from the high power matches. I had a Savage/Anschutz target rifle and I was able to shoot flies at 100m that were on my sighting in paper target. My old eyes are messed up now and I have to shoot left handed.
100y ! You without a doubt will see which ammo it likes best. I'm guessing at a 100y or any other range. Matched or good shots will work best. I'll keep watching and see! 🎉 Keep on keepin on ! Who tee who
Mine really shoots the eley benchrest outlaw well. I discovered that when I went to range and forgot to bring my go to cci sv. I had some Eley ammo with me I was testing in another rifle. I loaded up some of the outlaw and wow! Very accurate with ammo it likes and for 200ish bucks it’s hard to beat.
I usually plinking with my daughters with 22 and we don’t shoot pass 40 yards and ammo that I’m using is federal auto match from Walmart and we have a lot of fun for &22👍
My "bench rest" 22 is a savage mk2 heavy barrel with a mueler 40x target scope. It will group amazingly but that super high mag scope forces you to slow down and make sure you're doing everything right. Every bit of poor trigger control is visible hahaha hell, every breath and heartbeat is visible! The insanely short eye box makes you super consistent because you simply can't see thru it I'd you're not exactly positioned correctly. A hunting scope it isn't but dang boy you wanna talk accurate you better bring the peanut butter cause this set up is the jam
I was just looking at this gun and wishing someone would do a video about it. Would love to see what this thing can really do with some nicer ammo at 50 yards.
If you're going for good groups you need better ammo, CCI standard velocity is cheap but good, Sk long range match is great, eley 22 match is good, norma match is really good. The bulk stuff is terrible.
^ what he said. 😂 the closest thing to decent bulk ammo I've found is the aguilla 40 gr plain lead round nose. Very good stuff. You have to pay significantly more for any better like the Eley match and special fancy pants target ammo like that.
@zachsowersfilmandphoto6659 I was more or less saying don't waste my time with bull crap ammo in a polite way. I understand it's to get more views but it's stupid to do 100 yard groups with trash. It was also to educate people watching the video that aren't as smart as you that think all ammo is created equal.
Speaking of Shushers, I applied for mine in December, and am wondering if I will get to use it before the Fall. 🤔 Thanks Gub-mint! Yer Tax Dollars At Werk…😂 Ultra-Mega-MAGA 🎉
Tip: Keep your finger on the trigger. Hold it back and call your shot. Ease the trigger forward just until the trigger resets. Repeat. It will improve your groups.
I'd test at 50, I do nrl22 which is the long range stuff and I've always confirmed zero at 50 yards tho I've always used cci standards and that's how I was taught so it could be something to do with the ammo and speeds
Adam try some match ammo or some that has a velocity of about 1040 and I think you’ll be surprised at the accuracy. I run the RWS .22LR MATCH in my Kimber 94 with excellent accuracy at 100 yards. Funny thing is if the light is just right you can watch the bullets go down range into the target.
The basic model 64 I had (black syntethic stock), loved the 40gr Federal Classic bulk ammo. It shoot better than my sporter 10/22 stainless with an 18" barrel. Hell, it shoot as good as my Marlin model 60 with the micro grove barrel!
Awesome!!! Years back Wally World had a Christmas special on the basic 64! 99 beans! It had issues?!? I called Savage and they were the most wonderful understanding people on the planet! The lady told me before you send the slinger back to us for us to evaluate. Let me send you a new magazine that will probably cure your problem! Three days later, I had a brand new mag in my mailbox! And the slinger ran like a champ!!! I called them back and asked them if they wanted me to send them the original mag? They told me I could do whatever I wanted with it! I was instantly a Savage fan! 🙌🏻
Everything shoots better than the Marlin. I've had three of them and I finally broke down and got a Ruger 10/22, it shot one MOA out of the box at 100 yd. My Marlins never shot that well
@@Thousand_yard_King I have the bicentennial special edition. I don't know if that makes a difference, but it has always been my most accurate 22LR rifle. I sold the Savage, so now the Marlin is the most accurate with the 10/22 running second.
Hey brother, big fan of the channel, especially when shooting savage, whetherby, and CZ rifles! Just bought this savage 64 to have fun with and teach my son to shoot. Any recommendations for an optic? Thanks brother!
That’s a sweet boolot slinger WTW , I need a 22 as the peski Yotes have been going through my backyard lately. I seen a savage 22 LR semi auto with a Weaver 9x40 glass . Any thoughts on the weaver ? I e never had one before ? . Cheers 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Good shooting WTW, nice rifle too. I have a question about the 1.99 inch average. Once you started shooting that top target 5 rounds on each bullseye, should you have adjusted any turrets at that point, or is it all about ammo choice? Thanks bud..
Hi wtw...my dad told me the gun shoots in the same place every time, so why are some groups so far apart? I hope you can answer. Thanks. Robert Vandick
Recently purchased this same rifle and I tried about 6 different ammunition and at 50 yards CCI standard grouped the best for me
I’ve got a B22fv-sr and CCI standard has been the most accurate in that rifle as well.
I custom built a 10/22 and from the receiver up and it LOVES CCI standard also, green tags and the like. Surprisingly, it doesn't like SK match or federal match (worst performer of all).
Is it loud or sounds like a air rifle
@@YESSNSPACE no it’s not very loud and then I put a linear comp on it and it’s almost like having a can on it

I have a savage very similar to that but bolt action and the stock is teal color. Awesome little 22 rifles. Tons of varmints taken with it
CCI Suppressor 22 LR 45 Gr Hollow Point work amazing in my savage Mark II FV SR which has the heavy 16.5" threaded barrel too.
Exactly what I use in my Mark ii G and it’s the best ammo I have.
Can't wait!!

Great rifle Whotee. I've been waiting on a Savage 64 video. Mine like 40 grain round nose CCI Mini mags. Cheers
I think the rail on the savage is 20 moa, if the 300 short is fixed straight along the receiver that might explain why it was so close.
