  • What kind of accuracy can you expect from a 99 dollar 22? Well it depends on a LOT of factors. Today I am using a Savage model 64 and Remington Target .22lr ammo.

Thanks for the shout out Buffalo, I had two people so far say that you sent them. That Savage is a good inexpensive little plinker, I actually bought it for my daughter when she was ten years old. Mine has a Simmons magnum 22 scope on it and I think I paid $22 for it back when I bought the rifle

The difference in $1,500 dollar 22s and $100 dollar ones is not that much different. You just figure that out after you buy a $1500 dollar one. Low cost models just have stiff triggers and are harder to shoot. Low cost scopes don’t always go back to zero sometimes either; but some will. You pay a lot of money for one that has all the bells and whistles. The $100 one is sure not the one for shooing target matches at long range. But, never underestimate any in the right hands of someone that knows how to shoot. They don’t need a hair trigger or fancy scope. You know practice shooting a 22 rifle off hand with a heavy trigger pull and a 16 power scope made me a better off hand shooter. Great video do some more like this one. Like your new puppy dog too.

I watched him drop a Buck at 125yrds that eased between us drivers and trotted through a field...2 weeks later he won $200 at a turkey shot with it knocking a clay pigeon off a post at 100yrds off hand ...technology can't always top talent..it helps but skill is priceless!

Love this old Canadian work horse made in Lakefield Ontario. It's often a Canadians first rifle, as you can find them for just under $200 CAD. And just about every store that sells firearms up here sells the Savage 64. There aren't many Canadian made firearms that are in affordable price ranges for the average person. But this old Cooey design from 1964 is still relevant today due to it's price range.

I really appreciate your downhome real world honest reviews. I guess I never thought of a .22 as a "target" round, unless you bought an expensive rifle set up for target shooting. A .22 is a varmint gun, you throw it up quick to the shoulder for fast moving squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and such at relatively short range. My old Browning SA is almost as old as I am and it is still a fantastic rifle. My J.C. Higgins 31 is older than I am and it is still very accurate. If a .22 rifle is accurate enough to hit rabbit size game at 50 yards it is accurate enough for hunting.

Buffalo - A really great vid of shooting an out of the box 'cheap' rifle. Really honest and a good review of this rifle. I have one that's one of my fav rifles. This next paragraph is copied out of my reply to a Q Wayy below from a couple weeks ago, I just wanted to put the info 'up front' since these rifles are under-rated when compared to much more expensive rifles.
" You can get a light sear spring from MCarbo for about $15 and replace the t-return spring with about 1/3 of a clik-pen spring stretched to fit. Then polish the sear w/o changing the angle at the point, then polish everything that 'rubs' in the action. I've got mine down to about 2#. BTW, that Rem ammo isn't 'really' target ammo. Try some SK+ or even Fed Champion 40g SV and then you can shoot around 3/4" regularly.
And Terry - the Marlin shot better than the 10/22 'cause it's a better rifle. The Ruger isn't that good. Marlin 60 or 795 etc are wayyy better and more accurate -and cost LESS ! "

I really do enjoy shooting but i don't want to smash through all my ammo because im definitely not wealthy so its hard to shoot like i would like to. Honestly just found out my wife's dad has a very old rossi youth .22 /20 gauge and lets just just say i haven't shot a .22 in 12years and I seriously forgot how fun it actually is to shoot yhe little .22. i found this channel just looking up some budget bolt or semi .22. i prefer a bolt because if i have a semi then i really think i will do just like my Zastava M70 and spend $100 in a day because i love trying to shoot as fast as possible but while staying actually accurate just to practice that. I never thought i would actually be this excited to find myself a .22 because I really haven't shot one in so long and completely forgot how fun that little cartridge is just to challenge yourself with or just enjoying yourself with a buddy as competition seeing who has the better accuracy without the expensive price of larger caliber ammunitio.

Good Video! I know this is a bit old video, but I am not on RUclips all day every day; just happen to come across this one. I have all sorts of 22's for all sorts of reasons. This model of Savage that you have is a keeper. It would do very well as a trainer and plinker. Imagine at 20 yards and closer that it would be great for teaching newbies how to shoot. Its accurate enough to hit pop cans, clay pigeons, and even eggs at 20 paces. New shooters love to hit "reactive" targets.

I always enjoy the "how will this cheap gun shoot" videos. Many times they surprise us and shoot really well. Of course in the real world, sometimes they aren't worth the few dollars we paid for them, lol. This was another great video Buffalo. You know what to edit and keep and speed up, etc.. Great job and nice shooting!! God bless brother.

I call that "not bad at all". $100 at 50yds I'll take it, Play around with the ammo and see what comes up. Good starter rifles for the kids, great info buff pleas keep em coming. That new recuit of yours "cute little thing" is a blessing, she needed help in these troubled times and y'all took her in. I'm sure she's bringing smiles to everyone, stay safe out there my man. Looking forward to the next vid.

$99 rifle, $36 scope, that's some danged impressive shooting. That thing likely has a 6 or 7 pound trigger! BTW, that's nice that you're making Gertie's last days her best.

Awesome video, I stumbled upon this as I just bought a Savage model 64 to take Grouse in the early season when the leaves are still on the trees, and makes shot gunning them really hard at a distance when they are sunning themselves on a trail from far away. Using CGI stingers for my first pass through, but to be honest not much ammo options right now in 2021 and the prices seemed to have increased for those options.

Edit: I like this riffle a lot better then the Mossberg 702 plinkster that I was using before in terms of build quality and overall accuracy.

I bought the same rifle for $125 a couple years ago. Its actually pretty well made for the money. Ive taken mine apart and the bolt is really solid and the receiver is actually steal not pot metal. Even the Ruger 10/22 has a cast receiver. Mine does not like the soft lead ammo with a full magazine. If I fill it to 9 it is fine but if I put 10 the first round doesn't want to chamber. If I use cci mini mags or any other jacketed round it will feed fine every time.

I bought a savage model 62 for $99. absolutely love it. can't beat it. trying to find a decent scope for it. nothing crazy expensive. it loves shooting the CCI stingers n CCI standard ammo

As you said, you used budget Ammo on a budget gun. The last group was stellar with the exception of the one flyer. Possibly try a series of 5 groups again with prime ammo? May break out how far advances in weapons building, especially barrel making has come? Food for thought??

That Barska scope is great. I have one I got for 28$ at Wally world. 3-9X32 duplex reticle. I don't think it's the same plinker model buffalo has though. You CAN get good scopes for under 200. It's hard to get anything with repeatable turrets though for if you're doing ELR distances. Cyclops Joe is my number one source for scope advice. From 39$ to 3900$. No bullshit reviews.

I bought 1 of these for my son to shoot, it ended up being more accurate than my 10/22. Great rifle for 100 bucks, it really liked the CCI mini mags for us.

I just picked one up for my son for Christmas. We haven't gotten it out to the range yet and it isn't like I'm terribly concerned about it being "super accurate" but it is nice to know that he won't be fighting a crappy gun while learning the fundamentals of marksmenship.

Get the Mcarbo trigger spring kit for this 64, a huge improvement.. from 6lb trigger to a 3.5lb trigger = huge accuracy improvement

Great video Buffalo , when they started putting adj triggers in the budget 22's it made huge improvement for shooters , ive got "lots " of 22's budget and higher end guns and one of my favorite and most accurate ones is a marlin xt 22 it;s my grouse gun on my quad took over my cooey mod 60 place , and most 22's even budget ones will usually like more than one brand of ammo some will group almost any ammo well
