Mr JWW is just using his youtube platform as an infomercial for whatever businesses he's invested in. His content was my favorite until he became the European Solomondrin.
100%. And it’s extra painful when its brands like Koenigsegg. Who can relate to that crap? 99.9% of us will never own, let alone drive, those cars… There’s a difference between living through someone else’s experiences and just being reminded of how stupid wealthy the 0.1% are. I like JWW’s videos of regular lifestyle stuff or hanging out with other enthusiasts, but all the brand stuff is cringy.
I totally agree with Sam point here on the road safety thing - The 'safer' they seem to be making cars the more dangerous it seems it's becoming. When I was 17 I had cars from the 80s that didn't even have airbags, we all did. And we concentrated a lot more then younger drivers seem to now with their new cars filled with tech.
First of all love your Yacht News and Videos. Second i dont think it would work because of the mclaren brand. As they stand now they rival Ferrari & Lamborghini. I think it would hurt the image. And they would need to make it 4 cylinders as a V6 is allready in the artura so they cant rival their own supercar without lowering the Buildquality (hurt the imagine) or the engine specs. And i think a 4 cylinder cheap mclaren wouldn‘t be as cool, as if they would have made the artura as a v6 without hybrid and for 90k+ i think that would have been the way to go. (Excuse my englisch no native speaker)
@@linusNathey made this “brand damage” argument when Porsche launched the Cayenne. But in fact, that car saved Porsche from bankruptcy and allowed them to develop amazing super/hyper/halo cars with the revenue. And the Porsche brand is as strong as ever.
Got to agree, the M25 is madness I drive coaches for a living and we call it the left lane advantage… between Heathrow and the M11 even limited to 62 staying in lane one I’m the fastest thing on the road
I find adaptive cruise and autopilot amazing especially with the miles I cover weekly. Unless it’s a nice windy road, I’m using autopilot. Makes the drive nice and easy. I do agree that not everyone uses it partly due to fear of “giving control” to the car and also as you mentioned some systems are a lot better than others like Tesla’s
38:50 a good example of that is when everyone does the Goodwood videos. Not that it is bad, but when many RUclipsrs you're subscribed to covers the same stuff, you can only watch so much if it
One of the last questions was asking about Sam and a behind the scenes of a RUclips video. Tony was also mentioning his handovers were manic. Valeters and wheel repairs happening. I know there must be hundreds of videos on YT doing just this, but I’d like to see one from Tony’s perspective. Great episode. Really enjoyed it.
Ive found that when using adaptive cruise coontrol, it doesnt actually make driving more relaxing or less demanding. In fact, it makes things more intense. Instead of controlling the speed, gap with car in front etc with your foot on accelerator almost subconsciously, with little to no thought, you are instead controlling things with a finger on your steering wheel buttons/stalk instead. Now you have to constantly change the distances with car in front (Ive had cars with 3 distance settings) depending on the speed of the traffic. Get close at slow speed, open it up at speed limit + speeds. And yes, it causes problems because people will see a big gap between you and car in front, move into that gap, which then makes the cruise control slow down further. Its a complete disaster and instead of solving 1 problem it creats multiple new ones. Daft gimmick. Old school cruise control is all you need.
Challenge videos would be immense, tony vs sam trying to get from one place to another in different cars, or laps around a track, loads of different things you could do, would be a good series to mix in with the other content.
I took a right kick in. Mercedes, saloon, 4 cylinder AMG engine! I really like it but sounds like I better get used to keeping it forever or taking a big hit at trade in.
Recently had a software update to my 2016 335d to allow Apple Car Play, not for future value, but just as an upgrade to keep it feeling a bit more up to date, don’t expect it to be worth more, it’s just a nice to have
Mine is a button on the steering wheel. Very easy to change the gap. Agree it can be a little sensitive at times. Many also work as standard cruise if you switch off the distance. I believe the gap on a BMW is adjusted through the screen🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Someone near me owns a Lotus eletre and I see it quite regularly. It has a lot of presence and looks really nice. Surprising the sales of it aren’t doing well
Do not place the pot plant in the centre of the camera shot, you have a backdrop of cars, why block that view, place the plant to one side of camera shot. Locate it to tony's right.
I listened to this 'cast earlier on Spotify. Great listen as always! My answer to a modern revival would undoubtedly be a Peugeot 205 reboot. Something to go directly up against the new R5. Curious about the Jaguar rumours too - isn't it fully committed to EVs from 2025 and not looking back?
I love the way Sam laughs at Tony,, when he says he only likes "new" cars, but as soon as he mentions an older car Sam has no idea what he's talking about. 😅
I used adaptive cruise in a peugeot 3008 maybe 3 or 4 years ago and within a mile come to the conclusion i hated it. Turned it off never used it on a motorway again, just give me standard cruise. Adaptive cruise is ok in stand still traffic where it just shuffles you along, then even then its super slow to respond and leaves 2 car lengths infront of you. Its not ideal. I dont think itll ever get better because of all the safety margains built in to them
Imagine lotus goes back to making combustion cars again because of the soft electric market. Emira's are flying out the door so surely their looking at it and thinking, let's stick to this for a bit. I also think the C63 might end up becoming a 6cylinder rather than bringing back the V8, it's a mess of a car but they can't get around emissions regs.
I recently drove a Subaru forester which had eye tracking and beeped at me every time I looked at the radio, or seemingly, even looked in the rear view mirror. I nearly crashed about 3 times whilst working out how to turn it off.
Love the content on all channels Sam. Tony's a proper rough diamond...legend!! Question: I'm thinking to sell my Audi R8 GT Coupe (1st gen) and buy either a 458 or 488 spider with good spec. Assuming cost +/-10k and with eye on future value, which one would you get and why?
Would go 488, all Ferraris are pretty strong on value once they reach that sort of age, the romas and 296s are tanking atm but they’ll level off like the older cars have. Keep it main dealer for service and you’ll be fine.
No one makes a hybrid "hyper hatch" hyper car formula in a hatch. a 2.0t hybrid 600hp hatch.. I feel like the whole electric thing stopped that from trickling down into performance hatches. I know no one will read this. But its my strongest desire to see in modern cars right now.
@BehindTheGlass could you do a podcast episode from the shmouseam with Tim, if he was available. That would be good, like the video you did with him on the podcast a few years ago.
For years and years been wanting a luxury - fast hatch-back, Bentley / Lotus / McLaren. WE DONT ALL WANT SUV'S. I would love a luxury hatchback, no bigger than a Golf. In fact something along the lines of a Volvo P1800 or Scimitar would be spot on. There is no luxury / prestige manufacturer making a hatchback
Our UK roads are too busy for adaptive cruise and the systems aren't intelligent enough and can be way over sensitive. There is a place in the world for standard cruise control but annoyingly in most modern cars it's either one or the other, ideally you'd want the option for both, cruise control for motorway speeds and adaptive for crawling in traffic. Personally I think the roads would be a safer place if people weren't trying to use these passive safety systems and reacting in panic when having to retake control of the car when it isn't doing what they want it too.
What car has changed the motor industry? New Mini & Fiat 500 (both designed by Frank Stephenson) McLarens road cars (designed by Frank Stephenson) original X5 - SUV for the masses (designed by Frank Stephenson). So shall we just say Frank Stephenson has single handedly changed the motor industry?
Sam has covered this in depth a couple of times. Basically, at the very last minute when he was all set to make the move abroad top gear USA pivoted in another direction.
Makes me laugh, when people get on about middle lane hogging on the motorway, because I bet most of them did it before the ruling came in, even you and Tony...😅
Automakers are dialing back their EV targets because they are terrible at building EVs. Tesla and BYD are glad to fill the void and cash those carbon credits. Legacy auto is Polaroid and they don't know it.

Absolutely nobody NEEDS a GT4RS. That’s why it’s so special❤ @viola_gt4rs for the worlds highest spec GT4RS

A missing car would be a McLaren to rival the Boxster, so a £70k McLaren.

Get Matt Armstrong on the pod as a guest.

Tony, I do trim repairs, you know who I am, Merc seats are the worse, plastic instead of using proper leather like other manufacturers
