Agree that was not a good video from Harry. It was a bit wishy, washy with no real conclusion. The whole film just seemed a bit rushed for a subject which many of us are really interested in. Not like Harry at all.
Speaking of crazy car prices. I bought a Fiesta ST from Tony 3 years ago almost to the date for 10k. That exact car now, with the new added miles on it is going for 11k. That is absolutely nuts
That, along with a sleep aid will make things so much better, but he must know this since he's been over here to the US and didn't make too much a fuss on that. I've only flown business class once in my many trips to Brazil to visit wife's family, and it was just magical compared to scum class as Jeremy coined it. I'm now ruined.
That roof on the cayman gt4rs reminds me of the roof the Mercielago roadster lol. They couldn’t have just made a carbon removal roof like in the C8 or Carrera GT.
That would've increased their R&D spends cos they would've had to get it to pass integrity tests n what not because it acts as a structural element when it's on. At least it does on the CGT. I'm not so sure whether it is in the C8. It also means that they would have to also make space for it to be stowed which in turn would further eliminate practicality by takin up the front boot space. Also, the true Spyders always had that tacky cloth roof. The previous gen Boxster Spyder had a similar soft top too. Ferrari did that too with their Super America models. They look hideous just like it did on the Murci n the thing was prone to rippin n tearin at the pins.
You guys make good point about the ST.. but a rare 911 is bound to be amazing and any Porsche enthusiast with the means should go after one. I know I will..
It's actually easy to tell even from far away - doors and door handles. S/T doors are from gt3 rs and door handles are "old-school" as you find on 992 GT3 Cup as well.
Kudos to you for knowing that but I had to google pictures of 992 GT3 RS and 992 GT3 to even know how their door handles look like. And I'm a Porsche fan.😅 And if the best difference by which we can spot an S/T is door handle than that's a problem.😂
Thanks for getting back into these! Not having one of these to listen to during work, for the past few weeks, has been deeply detrimental to my mental health
I have carbon ceramics on my SVR, They are horrendous cost, discs are 5k each from Jaguar and pads are 1.4k per axle, 4 brake wear sensors at £60 a pop, that’s over 23k to replace. I am on my third set of front pads, second set of rear pads and second set of front discs after 40k miles. I do drive the car properly including several trackdays and roughly 50 laps of the ring.
I agree with you o the gt3 vs Spyder rs thing. Drove a 992 gt3 (touring) and a gt4rs back to back on track and I just couldn't get confident enough in the gt4rs to really push it hard, partly because it wasn't my car and it wasn't insured, but also that I found the front end less predictable than in the gt3. The gt3 feels more mature in that sense, but not in a particularly bad way. Not in a boring way. Also would choose the gt3 mainly because of the manual gearbox.
Most people only have ONE Porsche. Many Porsche enthusiast hate rear wheel steering. That’s why the ST is a thing. You can’t option it out with the touring.
I was quite pessimistic about the S/T, but after the launch I actually think this is the coolest 911 since the 964 RS. It is the first time in 25 years that they have truly made a Porsche the is purely made for enjoyment and not for impressing people other than yourself. If you crave attention, this is not the car for you.
Personally, I think the ST is more special than the Sport Classic. Using the "it's just a special GT3 Touring version" logic, isn't the SC just a special Turbo? The only gripe with these new cars is they are limited edition, and beyond expensive.
I see what you mean, Porsche are the masters of “repackaging” because all 911s are a different version of very good, that being said I feel the SC is the most unique, as you almost can’t build a rwd manual Turbo from a regular Turbo, however I feel like if you pay a good performance tuner they could make a GT3 Touring feel and perform like the S/T.
i agree with the 718 roof thing, its honestly a super big downer. if at least it was some hardtop you can easily put on and off, but that thing looks like a tent straight from a camping site.
It sure will, for a brief time, then settle down a little over list. As Sam said, I don’t find it special enough. It’s a great car but we’ve seen it before in the 991R
If i'm not mistaken, i think Shmee even got rid of the speaker sound on his black series, or was it someone else, i just can't remember for sure but i know it's been possible to do for a lil while now...
The reason the sport classic doesn't use the GT 6 speed is because the 6 speed can't handle the torque of the turbo power plant. So they had to use the 7 speed from the "normal" cars and actually detune the torque from the 3.8 turbo for the 7speed as well.
44:00 McLaren and Gordon Murray wanted to keep it light and manual. Mercedes forced the slush box etc on them mid build. . So it was simply Merc's execs that screwed the SLR over
How close is the ride of the GT4 spider compared to the 4RS spider? I have watched a couple reviews now and none has compared it to the regular GT4. Ignoring the drivetrain ofc.
Hi I just wanted a bit off clarity about the porsche 911 I love seen through glass I actually brought my porsche because of watching this program on youtube he is really great at his job now back to me I brought a base 991.1 it has been speced to a high level and low mileage a real gem to be honest and is fantastic to drive but being my first 991 I am really unsure of how good it is compared with all the other models youtubers don't seem to review the base 911s at all I find they only review the cars that are out of reach to us normal guys I would love a comparison clog of him on this subject 🙏
Listening to your comments about the comparison between the Spyder RS and the 992 GT3, I really do not understand why you prefer the 911 Speedster above the Spyder RS because to my knowledge they have the same “front end”. Can you explain?
can’t wait to see you down here, when you here, just don’t go ordering shrimp.. That was an Americanisation for a tourist commercial, we’ll happily serve you a boat load of prawns instead 😊
Love how Sam nonchalantly flexes his Barry Gibb-ness while talking about exhaust sounds. On your bit about the 911ST. You’re asking owners to spec it to what will make you happy. Maybe making “too” similar to the Touring was by design so its buyers would drive it more and pose less.
I love Porsche but I think they have gotten lazy with these new special editions..The Sport Classic is very cool but the only unique design feature is the ducktail...rest of it is just Turbo bumpers..Same thing with the new ST..Too much like a GT3 Touring..it was okay with the previous 911R as we did not have a touring with the 991 but now it seems we have so many models that look the same..I would't mind so much the the ST is £40K more than a GT3 RS...
Design isn’t everything and especially with the 911. The sport classic is a turbo RWD and with a manual gearbox. This configuration was over since the 964 turbo .. The 911 ST has a lightweight clutch and flyweel like the Carrera GT so it rev insanely fast. It also has super short gear ratio so the car feels it has 100hp more
There are 2-3 full reviews on the new c63 , look at those reviews... you'll immediately know why you dont hear about them , why they dont sell AND why they would throw the v8 back in 😅 My god that car is a electrical NIGHTMARE
Tony & Sam, what do y'all think about the sudden silence from Mercedes n Aston regarding the One n Valkyrie deliveries? While most of us have heard about the One burnim down to a crisp in the UK, but supposedly the Valkyrie is plagued with issues too n to such an extent that David Coulthard has put his car up for sale.
Well 20 years ago they slagged off the M3 CSL as being nonsense but today that's the one everyone wants. (For me, with the exception that it still has that horrible SMG box instead of a manual). The ST will eventually be the same as was the 911R before this.
Spyder RS is a waste, considering you can get a 718 Spyder for less than half the price and then spend a pittance getting a race exhaust, ECU tweak, and shorter gearing.
Sam is completely wrong about the SLR. Mercedes was very much in charge despite it being manufactured by McLaren. It was manufactured as a GT with the American market in mind. It was a contributing factor to the end of the relationship between McLaren and Mercedes.
Is it true I heard a story about a Ozzy man who got bitten by a shark lost his leg then as he was recovering in hospital he got bitten by a widow spider thing then he recovered from that then died from a snake bite at home
New car prices are dictated by finance agreements. No one buying an M5 or a Mazda care about the cars cash price. All buyers care about is the deposit and monthly payment amount. If BMW can set the retail price of the cars as high as possible then it looks better on their balance sheets even though no one actually writes bmw a cheque.
I love this podcast and I'm glad you guys are back, but this podcast became repetitive, every episode has few similar topics (Porsches, same old talk about EVs and synthetic fuels, Ferraris...). I just wish some change. Collecting Cars, The Carmudgeon Show, The Smoking Tire podcast, even Everyday Driver and Smith and Sniff podcasts became way more interesting.
