I'm half Black and half Mexican. I grew up with great food on both sides and I've never been more spoiled, than the time we were having a cookout for my birthday. Dad made ribs, burgers, and brats. My aunt on my mom's side made fajitas with jalapeno shrimp, steak or pepper chicken as your choices. My dad's sister brought homemade potato salad, mom made sopa de fideo. I was in a food coma 2 days in a row eating on left overs.
As I'm practically full-on carnivore... this sounds like heaven to me! Can I come? The Scottish accent can sometimes confuse Americans though. Imagine having a language barrier even when we're all speaking English! Pretty hilarious.
Come on down! We'd figure out a way to understand the language barrier. All are welcome. It is pretty funny though to think that it's possible to not understand or even misunderstand someone who speaks the same language! 😀
I know what you mean...I once dated a Scottish girl many years ago who lived here in England, her accent softened due to living here for a while, but when she got piss off then the thickness of her accent came out, all i could do was just shut up and nod my head!, but other than that i loved her sexy accent. As for a fellow meat eater like yourself Angus beef is excellent when you can get the real deal!, plus i got a weakness for spicy hot wings..i better shut up I'm getting hungry now..

She would speak in paragraphs and I could only understand a sentence or two. Thankfully, it's much easier to understand her now. Yeeeessss, love the beef and hot wings! Now I'm hungry. 😋

I'm white, but I'm also ex-military. Every day, during lunch and on deployments, we play card games like hearts, poker and spades just to pass the time. When it comes to hearts and spades, we are cutthroat and take no prisoners.
I’m new to your content but I enjoy it immensely. I thought that was your sister I guess didn’t know it was your mama. You are great folks and I wish good health, happiness and all the best to you and your family!
Yes I have been to a black cook-out! The description that young man gave of a cook-out fits the ones we have in the deep south! Nice people and great food!
Oh the memories. I have dated a couple of black girls. Going to their momma's house for dinner was something to remember. We southern boys can pack away the food and the gal's mommas could cook. It was dangerous, lol. And yes, I was "forced" to take some with me. As soon as I was able to eat, that disappeared. I used to attend a black church (I love how they don't restrict the spirit. They would have a huge dinner about once a month. I was the only indian there and apparently every one of the sweet grandmas thought I was too skinny, lol. I miss that place and those people. Thank you for the awesome videos. Please do more of these. It helps folks to see that we are no different.
Hearing Zach's story makes me miss big family get togethers, even here in Australia at any black BBQ, Birthdays, Weddings the amount of food is crazy!! great reaction ladies :)

the funniest thing about his story is that i can sort of relate to it in a weird way over here, my dad was always told by his parent and in turn always told me that no one should ever be allowed to starve in a country such as ours and that if someone is hungry we ought to fill them up good until they cant eat no more
I’m on moms side. We always had at the very least a watermelon & a nice cold salad because it’s hot in the south & sometimes you want a lil cold with your bbq. If you wanna get fancy you grill corn but that is literally the only acceptable grilled veggie at a cookout!
I’m from the Chicago area and let me tell you I have never been invited to a black barbecue. Yeah the feeding also plays alot to in like native american family dinners/feasts/gatherings like be making sure there is a lot of food and we will keep hanging out while slowly chatting and working on the second plate. victoria day passed since it was the weekend after our first pow wow of the spring time and like we have our foods like 'indian tacos' and my aunt was like hey we should have a dinner tomorrow at my place. me and one of my aunts did the bread, one of the others did the meat, and others worked on the rest of the toppings and sides. everyone got their first plate for sure and if they didnt make a second plate then it was the take away plate for later when you leave, like we try to make sure everyone has eaten and if theres food left we will try to make sure everyone takes something home like plate of leftovers or deserts like pies so all the food gets eaten at some point or other either there or back at home. love having family feasts, some of the cousins and uncles also will jam as well so we got live music to go with the laughter

Years ago me and my family were visiting a remote aboriginal community in the Northern Territory, and they went and made us a big bush tucker feast by cooking on hot coals in the ground. We had freshly hunted just an hour beforehand magpie goose, turtle, barramundi and snake and it was the most delicious bbq I've ever eaten. Good times good people 🇦🇺

@@katherinejaymes2579 @Grimrpr6942 I once stayed up all night to slow cook a full brisket on our charcoal grill. I tended to it every 30 minutes, turning it, basting it, and stoking the coals. The next day, what I pulled of that grill would have put some BBQ restaurant's burnt ends to shame..., but wouldn't have come anywhere near as good as any BBQ I've had with black families. Food can bring people together in ways that many other attempts just can't do. We all need to eat. Oh, and momma gurl, my wife has been cooking grilled veggies for years, but I didn't touch any of them until this year. Momma, you need to spank that child. Those grilled veggies were gooooood, especially the Zucchini, broccoli and cauliflower sprinkled with a little bit of Cavender's . And ladies, I keep a giant bottle of Cholula hot sauce right here on my desk in the office. It puts the heat in the cheatin' I'm doing on my diet. LOL.
@@DarianCaplinger I'm sure you did an amazing job with that brisket! It sounds sooooo good! 😋 We haven't had brisket in a little over a year now. 🙁 Ohhhh, ok. Your wife sounds like a lady after my own heart! Grilled veggies are fantastic! So, did you just not like veggies until this year? Why did it take you so long to try them? That hot sauce sounds good! I've seen the Cholula, but we usually use Franks. Is Cholula better?
@@katherinejaymes2579 To me, if you've ever tried the little mild sauce packets from Taco Bell and intensify the heat, but keep the flavor... that's Cholula. I don't like hot sauces that have to water down the BTUs with vinegar. I don't mind something that has little flavor, but a ton of heat (like Tapatio), but I just can't stand the combination of heat an vinegar. Vinegar is very acidic, and trying to intensify the heat with vinegar, instead of actual pepper oil, just doesn't cut it for me. As far as veggies, I've looked at gourds and judged them against cucumbers my whole life. I like pickles, but I don't care for fresh cucumber (or cooked for that matter). When I first tried zucchini (at the wife's urging), she had cooked it without any seasoning, and I was like... it doesn't taste like anything. She told me that's because most gourds are good canvases for seasoning, because they will take on the flavors they are cooked with. Bam, she got me. I haven't tried eggplant yet, but after the experience with zucchini, I'm game to try it, because I've heard it's the same kind of get go. I loves me some fried okra, roasted, boiled or baked broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. I eat far more varieties of veggies now than I did as a kid, but I'm with the daughter, I loves me so meat! Oh, and potatoes (just not the sweet ones)!
@@DarianCaplinger Cholula sounds pretty good! We're going to have to try that! In terms of hot sauce, we've been buying Sriracha lately.😋 Heat makes almost every food better! We personally enjoy cucumber. Haven't had zucchini in years! I think I forgot it even exists until now. I haven't tried eggplant yet either, but mom has. She says it's pretty good. Not amazing, but good. Fried okra is great! Unfortunately, it was waaaayyyyy too salty the last time I had it. We got it from a buffet. We'll take broccoli any way we can get it. Same with cauliflower, but I can do without the Brussel Sprouts. Mom likes them though. In short, we'll take just about any veggie we can get (potatoes too)! LOL Nothing compares to meat though. 😋😄
The people from the south, Black and White are down to earth and respectful. I’m from California and it’s Mexican Cookouts, or rather all Mexican, Carnitas, Carne Assad and Chile Verdi. You always eat too much, sometimes if it’s a birthday there is a Piñata. Real blast.

I love your Mom. She may be older but she still looks young. Reason is your outer beauty can be enhanced by your inner beauty. She gets it. Why? Because my wife is 58 and when I look at her and in her eyes, to me she is forever young. That my friends is how you attack life. Keep it going.

Something similar happened to me. I had friends visiting from Germany and they asked if we could go to a black gospel church. I lived in the suburbs and didn't know any so I called around. One told me sure you're very welcome. So we went there on Sunday and it was a very poor area, but as the cars came rolling in they were dressed very nicely. We sat in the middle and were the only white people there but it was wonderful and they even introduced us to the congregation and explained why we were there. After the service, everyone congregated outside and surrounded us and asked us to come back again. In all my life, I had never been to a black church and it took two foreigners to entice me to going to one. It was a truly uplifting and wonderful experience.

Black, White, Jewish, Chinese, or anything, sharing your culture and traditions with others the same.
@@JohnWick-hb3ft Oh wow! That's hilarious. That story reminds me of a neighbor I have who always walks up to folks and talks their ears off. I have no idea which country she's from (can't tell from the accent); but when mom and I first met her, all we could do is smile and nod because her accent was so thick! She would speak in paragraphs and I could only understand a sentence or two. Thankfully, it's much easier to understand her now. Yeeeessss, love the beef and hot wings! Now I'm hungry. 😋

It helps folks to see that we are no different.

the funniest thing about his story is that i can sort of relate to it in a weird way
over here, my dad was always told by his parent and in turn always told me that no one should ever be allowed to starve in a country such as ours and that if someone is hungry we ought to fill them up good until they cant eat no more
Been watching multiple Reaction videos to this one and all I can say is no matter the persons race, a good story and a cookout is colorblind
Yes, absolutely! 😊
There is still so much hatred towards the white community that I would seriously have a hard time accepting an invitation to one. Let me say that growing up in Chicago all my friends were black and I have no hatred towards them. As for you and your mom I think you guys are awesome. Thank you
I have been when I lived in Chicago. He got it down. Just try to eat a reasonable amount. Only missing part was cousins trying to catch a drink away from Big Mama. Hide fast behind any secluded barrier.
I've never been to a black cookout that didn't have collard greens, dirty rice, salmon patties, and green beans simmered with bacon. 😋😋😋everyone brought sides. It was always a feast.

My first black cookout was AMAZING! Non stop food, pickup game of hoops next to the garage, cards, and most importantly you feel like family when you leave. It's a love fest... I did see a couple of kids get hit with a flying flip flop from across the yard but that just added to the fun. Black Grandparents have great aim! Don't mess with the top tier of the family! LOL..

@@katherinejaymes2579 yes :)

I've been to a black cookout, and for the most part, it was just like he said, except the fact that i already knew the games they liked to play, so i didnt leave there broke, just stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey. I once stayed up all night to slow cook a full brisket on our charcoal grill.
Ohhhh, ok.
The “your gut will be screaming for help” made me laugh for a few minutes 😂
