      But yes, those are all wery important parts dont you think, mb/psu. When this pc is 5 years old what hapens if mb or psu desides to quit on you? How do you get a new one, when the waranty is expired? And at what cost if you can find one? What if you deside to upgrade cpu family in 5 years? Can you do so? No cuz mb and psu is proprietary.
      So solution to all this is what alienware wants you to do, buy a new pc. Problem is it is waistfull, off your money and the enviroment.
      I know it is a worn out record at this point. And I like the steps alienware toulk with the r16, even if babysteps. But Having a pc with atx and normal, nonpriprietary mb/psu/case/ram might not make a diference right now. But in a few years, maybe with the second owner at that point, the nonproprietary parts is the diferense between if it goes to the landfill or not.
      I have had the same pc, (built it myself) for 6 years. Have changed most parts in it, only the case remains. But every part I have changed along the way has gone in to some other pc, mine, my sisters, or random facebook marketplace guy's pc. No waist.
      Unfortunatley non of that is posible when proprietary parts, even if it is only the mb and psu. So alot of this pc's parts will be ewaist in a few years.

      The cheap and inefficient case, mobo, ram, cooling are the biggest problems. The case is better, but still not anywhere near where it should be. Still not nearly enough airflow. Just use a mesh front and 3 fans... simple stuff, it's 2023 not 2011. Why is the mobo still a dumb custom design and dimension. Cheap looking mobo and ram. Not enough fans to get proper airflow, and a 280mm rad should be the minimum for modern flagship cpus. They're just thermal throttling themselves it's kinda funny.

    • @fractalelf7760
      @fractalelf7760 Год назад

      @@pathtoball4677 And yet, despite it all, the systems DO work and are reliable often times with benchmarks beating the class average. Laptops thermal throttle depending on model, the desktops if liquid cooled I assure you absolutely do not throttle on CPU or GPU. I know for a fact they do not. There is trade off on prebuilts, you settle for less theoretical quality but at the same time you cannot begin to ensure the components picked off the shelf and put together don’t have subtle incompatibilities. Dell and others have test runs which stress test all the components in tandem over thousands of load conditions to ensure stability. The custom motherboard is part of that btw. Instability is just higher in home builds on average. I have used both since about 1991, I know intimately this is true, there is a legit argument for prebuilt, even Dells Alienware line.

    @nickierv13 Год назад +1

    Time for some questions I'm sure your not going to want to answer, but might be of use for anyone considering one of these systems.
    For system upgrade you mention tool less upgrades for the GPU, RAM and storage. RAM never needed a tool. Tool less drive bays have been around for at least 8 years. And the GPU should have at least one screw, but that can be one that can be removed by hand.
    What about the CPU? If you get a 12th gen now, are you going to be able to upgrade that to a 13th gen later? They both use the LGA 1700 socket and are both compatible with the Z690 and Z790 chipset.
    Asking because the R10 had both 3000 and 5000 options. The systems that shipped with a 3000 CPU used the B450 chipset but did not get the BIOS update needed to run the 5000 chips.
    And Intel changes sockets on even generations, so 14th gen will be a new socket.
    What about the PSU? You didn't mention its proprietary. Any reason for this omission? Are you going to be selling compatible PSUs?
    With the PSU, efficiency has nothing to do with the quality of the power. It means that if the system is using 1000W (going for round numbers), and you have a 92% efficient PSU (about what an 80+ Platinum PSU will get), the PSU will only be pulling an extra 8% (or 80W in this case) from the wall.
    With regards to the "special features". Never herd of the 'Flex power' If your getting a power surge, shouldn't that be handled by a surge protector? And that is going to cut power. There is
    OVP (Over Voltage Protection), but that only addresses the 'system' side of the PSU, not the ‘wall’ side.
    Burst power. First, power doesn't work like that. The PSU doesn't 'push' power, components pull power. What you have described is boost or turbo on the CPU or GPU. If the CPU/GPU is under load and has thermal headroom (aka its cool enough/isn't going to overheat), it will start pulling more power so it can push its clock speed up.
    And on the topic of CPU power, will the CPU be able to hold its boost clocks/power? The R13 and Intel R15s where massively under preforming due to power limits. Has that been addressed?

    • @AlienwareChannel
      @AlienwareChannel  Год назад

      We'll do our best to answer some of these.
      - CPU Upgrades: Yes, since they leverage the same socket, you should be able to upgrade from a 12th Gen Intel CPU to a 13th Gen.
      - CPU Power: Overclocking will not be available on the Aurora R16, however the
      - FlexPower technology allows power supply and motherboard to communicate protecting you from system shutdowns in the event of a power surge due to performance needs.
      - BurstPower technology allows our power supply to double its power during a performance surge to assist performance needs.
      - Proprietary Components: The motherboard and power supply were designed to work their best in tandem with each other.

    • @nickierv13
      @nickierv13 Год назад

      @@AlienwareChannel Nice to see a response of sorts.
      Should be able to is not will be able to. The R10s use the AM4 socket, that socket was comparable with both the 3000 and 5000 CPUs, amongst others. The only thing needed for compatibility moving from a 3000 to 5000 series CPU was a BIOS update. To my knowledge, that update has not been published by Dell.
      Fair point on overclocking, if your only shipping the R16 with non K sku CPUs they don't support overclocking and that is an Intel thing.
      Still too much marketing fluff around the PSU features. Is it an external power surge or high draw from a CPU/GPU boost? Surge implies an external event...
      Yes there is a hold up time, but its not new. Yes the 3080/3090/4080/4090 GPUs can pull a LOT of power in very, very short bursts. That pull is enough to trip smaller PSUs, simple fix is more/bigger caps. But that is all dealing with at most 1/60th of a second.
      Its too easy to technobabble around people. Sell the technical features, not the marketing. But as I have no way of verifying and being well aware of Dunning Kruger, I shall leave that testing to an independent team with the proper testing equipment to verify.
      While the PSU features got temporary pass, proprietary components don't. Its a yes or no question: either they are or are not proprietary. If they are, will replacements/spares be sold out of warranty?

    I am waiting for R16 to be released in Japan as soon as possible.

    • @nickierv13
      @nickierv13 Год назад +3

      The issue with the R15 isn't the cooling, its with the power. The only review with a useful benchmark uses a 13900KF, so I will use the same CPU but the trend holds for the 13700K/KF in the R15. And I can't see it somehow being different for the 13600K either. 13900KF should be running P cores at 5.2GHz and E cores at 4.3GHz. And that is allowed to go higher with better cooling. The R15 runs the 13900KF at 4.4GHz for the P cores and 3.4GHz for the E cores.
      Technically the thermals/240mm cooler is fine but the CPU is running 15-20% under what it should be. For a normal 13900K a 240mm cooler is just on the edge of being fine, if you live in a cold area and keep your room chilly you should be fine. If it gets warm (21C+) probably not and a 280/260mm cooler will be better. Plus the CPU can run faster with better cooling.

    Will Alienware desktops ever have Thunderbolt? I know the laptops have it, but the big thing putting me off from buying the desktop is that there's no Thunderbolt. I know cost wise to get licensing for the technology + proprietary motherboard makes it difficult, but it'd be huge if on the next iteration of the motherboard it's included in some way, even just for one port because I think that's what most people need, and what I need as well

    • @musicalhistory4392
      @musicalhistory4392 Год назад

      It's complex than that, and there's a reason very few manufacturers use Thunderbolt on Desktops, beyond the fact that space saving the I/O is not a concern, and carrying video support isn't possible with separate graphics cards.
