Are you kidding me? You didn’t fail! I have chronic pain and have a hard time walking to the car sometimes. You did what so many couldn’t do, and you survived! Don’t be so hard on yourself. You rock!
@@Susan.I They diagnosed me with fibromyalgia because I tested negative for everything else but they think it could be PA because I have psoriasis. They said the tests don’t always show a positive when you have it. Also, I have a fused spine and the scar tissue from it has created major pain and spasms. I miss my body not being broken. 😂
Five days in the wilderness and under those temps - you lasted 119 & a half hours longer than the vast majority of the population would’ve… Way to go & congratulations Alex!
Your a Dad now. The risk too high. You showed leadership by doing what was right; not what was it easy. Focus on the next step. Not the whole staircase. You survived & learned valuable skills along the way. Well done you.
Dude! You killed it! I’ve been backpacking for a long time, and I always need to drop about 25lbs and hike or treadmill at least 3-5 miles per day for a few weeks to get into shape. You literally walked out of an RV and onto a serious trail with serious mileage AND you needed to find your own food? I’m pretty impressed!
I didn't see a failure there. I saw someone with no experience or training surviving in that heat for 5 days. The experience you have gained will hold you in good stead. Well done Alex, be proud of yourself.
As a former tent-camper/backpacker/semi-survivalist, I can attest that the situation you were in was not a "hard-but-fun youtube challenge" situation but an actual life or death type of situation. I was silently begging Jordan not to leave you on your own and of course he smartly stayed with you. There is absolutely no shame in this. What a valuable learning experience! Thank you for sharing this with so many others!!!
Wow, Alex. Many people wouldn't do anything close to what you did. I know I would have a hard time getting past my fear of predators in the wilderness. Years ago, I took part in a rappelling course for one day and rappelled down a 120-foot high vertical rock formation. It was an amazing experience, such adrenaline. I went back up to the top to rappel down again, because some of my classmates were doing that and I didn't want to feel left out. When I started near the edge, I was suddenly overcome with panic and froze. I decided not to go and backed up onto the rock. I was disappointed in myself, but the instructor said to me, "There is no reason to be disappointed. You made a rational decision in the face of fear." I realized my second attempt was all about me being competitive, instead of letting myself feel great about my first rappel down. That was back in 1989 and I never forgot it. Making a rational decision in the face of fear/exhaustion/hunger, etc., rather than trying to fulfill a fantasy, is an accomplishment. So, you didn't do 48 hours completely alone in the wilderness, but you learned more about yourself, your limits, when it's appropriate to push past your limits, and when it is not. Valuable lessons!
Congrats Alex, you done good kid. You survived your backpacking, caught a fish. slept under the stars, and no critters ate you... I say that's a big win.
Those of us that live in the American west know how hard it is to survive without preparation. You are not a failure. You are doing great. It’s a brutal land out there.
Failure is only when you fail to try. You may not have achieved everything you set out to do, but you survived and in the middle of it all, you had another adventure you'll remember FOREVER! Well done my friend!
Jordan is a beast! I watched him on Alone! You my friend did great! And in no way a failure, you made it the whole way starving ,tired ,hot and all with no experience! That is a win !
To not try is failure. In our hearts , you have succeeded in so many ways. You got out of your comfort zone and realized what you're capable of doing. You're a stronger person for it. Well-done mate ! 👍👍👍Sending much respect for you and Emma for what you have accomplished . Harriet, Jim and Yuki
Without experience you took on such a huge task, so should in no way be disappointed with yourself. We never lose - we either win or learn! I myself, am an English expat living in soaring heat, so commend your efforts immensely, as most of us are just not made for those climates. The main thing here is that you not only survived, but made lifelong memories that will stay with you forever and created some fantastic content for us all. These experiences make us appreciate life and the things we sometimes take for granted. Enjoy the rest of your adventure with your amazing family and we all look forward to your future uploads. Peace out buddy ;-)
It's not always about "winning" ... it's about making the effort, and that's what you did. Good job, Alex, and Congrats on making your dream come true!
I’m so relieved that you ultimately realized you DID SUCCEED!! You hunted and gathered-you found nourishment! You started a fire under damp conditions AND not by using a 9:00 lighter! You used friction, sparks and tender tinder. You hiked during in tense heat. Sometimes just walking to my car is unbearable and energy sapping.(I live in Texas) And you did it all with a smile on your face…a few down trodden moments but you pushed forward. You never gave up!! Congratulations!! YOU DID IT!! YOU DID IT!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Alex, I think you were amazing! It’s not a failure. It’s a growing learning experience. The next time you do it, it’ll be even better. Just the beginning as you said. Best to Emma and Noah. Those wonderful llamas
I think most people who don't live in the mountains, including sea-level-dwelling Brits, have no real understanding of how both the altitude of the Rockies and the closer proximity to the sun can negatively affect them. Acclimatization, proper fitness, and well-ventilated sun-protecting clothing are vital. But, good effort, Alex, and welcome to the Rockies.
I got emotional at the end when you talked about becoming your childhood hero. What an awesome dream. But what you accomplished here over these several days is badass and impressive. Heat + physical exhaustion + lack of food is BRUTAL on the body. I can’t imagine how difficult this was, and you did it!
So many of the contestants on the show alone went home because they couldn't catch fish . They were people with extensive survivalist training. There were also many warnings at that time about hiking in that heat , and you did so well . You have the heart of an adventurer as does Emma. I know there will be many more adventures to come . On this trip you got to experience some amazing things , mostly don't wonder too far from a food source 😂. Seriously though well done !
You're too hard on yourself Alex........this was a monumental task that you've never undertaken before, during a heatwave. Give yourself some Grace. You did a great job with the things you did accomplish. Well done!
Thanks so much, really appreciate the kind words. I definitely have even more respect for people, like Jordan, who are skilled enough to survive in the wilderness like this. It’s very inspiring. It definitely won’t be my last attempt
You seriously didn't fail! The fact that you made it with all that hiking is a real accomplishment. You should feel good without any shade of self-doubt or failure. We can't become our ideals overnight. It's about developing skills over time and building on each success.
Still very impressive! If you were able to do this much in the middle of summer, imagine what you could accomplish in some more reasonable weather! Hope we see more challenges like this on the channel.
Wow - some really good production, around music choices and synchronisation to align with the video... not something I normally look for in Travel Beans (that's normally about heart tugging sincerity, authenticity and connecting). But genuinely, I noticed some of the tech stuff was really good this time.. well done Alex ..oh and well done for going for it. As you said yourself, you did more than many and ended up smiling and realising what you did achieve. ...and that's a Dad Noah will be soooo proud of.
Congratulations to you Alex for taking your first step in a fulfilling journey. You are already ahead of so many who still haven't got themselves off the couch! What a great opportunity to learn wilderness skills from one of the best, Jordan is a great guide.
You definitely did not “fail”! You not only had an active dialogue with your childhood dream; you actually took steps to experience an adulthood version of it! For a reality check, you were experiencing unusually extreme heat for Colorado plus altitude (which coming from the UK, even if you’ve been in Colorado for a few weeks, would be challenging)! I’ve been hiking for years on a weekly basis at 8000-12000 ft, and what you accomplished in 4 days would be difficult for me!
What an epic video from the channel! While I would never subject myself to such an ordeal, I can appreciate the effort and appreciate the message of humility in nature. Hope to see more fishing on the channel as you continue traveling the US. 👍
I once hiked 9 miles round-trip in Glacier National Park with my (ex)husband and 2 1/2 year old son, while 5 1/2 months pregnant. It doesn't sound like much, but it was the hardest hike for me and not much of a view at the end, but I did it and survived! No hike is a failure because you are out there trying! Great job, Alex!
Wow, Alex, what was a journey that was! To be clear, that's what it's all about, the journey, not the winning or even losing. To complete the task through that ridiculous terrain and excruciating temperatures is enough man. You are the winner to have done that.
Congratulations for lasting through. I would never sleep like you did in a sleeping bag in Bear Country. Brilliant vlog. Emma and I mean Emma, not the Lama must be proud of you.
Don’t look at what you felt that you didn’t achieve but look at what you did achieve. You did absolutely amazing. I have chronic pain so I know that there is only so far that you can push your body. You know when it’s time to say “I tried it”, “I did it” and “I learnt so much but it’s now time to stop”. You wouldn’t want to push so hard that you end up injuring yourself or are unable to enjoy the rest of your holiday and travels. You should be extremely proud of what you did and how far you got. At the end of the day you have a family that needs you and they need you in one piece and healthy. Well done you 🥰❤️x
Don’t dwell on what you DIDN’T achieve….be proud about what you DID achieve….well done….it sometimes takes more courage to give up than to go on. The heat was probably the deciding factor in this adventure so PLEASE don’t feel you have failed…Noah will still see his daddy as a hero,,
I would have quit the first day. Completing the hike is an accomplishment in and of itself. And you went in with zero training, learning on the go. While I understand feeling the way you do, I'm so impressed with what you did and now you've had a bit of the experience, you can prep for the next trek!
The United States is such a large country with vast amounts of wilderness in many different climates. One could spend years just exploring. No need to beat yourself up, At least you tried and that is not a failure. We humans in civilized societies have really become spoiled.
This was your best "alone" video. You didn't fail, you tried. That's what counts, that you tried. Oh, and you caught a fish right away! Thanks for this video. I really enjoyed it and I was cheering you on!
You undertook a challenging adventure with limited experience. It takes time to be competent and endurance experiences like you did are often a mixture of negative and positive emotions. I bet after at all you feel proud and have a great sense of achievement 💪
Alex, you in no way failed. I think you did amazing! You made it to the end goal. For me right now, the thought even walking a mile or two is overwhelming. You did 30+ miles in that heat. You did great!
Back when you were doing the Van build I gave you crap on how little you did. I want to take all of that back. What you did was amazing. I don't know if I could do that huge hike fully geared up. To do it while foraging and fishing was so impressive. This is definitely one of my favorites from you... Great job Alex 🎊🎉
You are still alive... You didn't fail. I love spending alone time in our national forests. I will go backpacking for a week and the best part is coming home. When you return to civilization, you don't take for granted the comforts we are blessed with. Kara and Nate call it a reset.
I'm a backpacker and spend a lot of time in various wilderness-type places. But you had it tough. I normally carry my food not catch it. And I once walked 15 miles in 95F heat and it is tough. And while berries are a nice snack, they aren't a meal. So I think you did OK. And catching fish is always hit or miss, even with proper fishing gear, let alone your makeshift kit. In fact, I usually have more success tickling them than hooking them!
You did not fail! You completed your hike and learnt a lot about survival. It would have been much easier without the heatwave. Congrats on your success!
Alex. You did so well considering you had no training or preparation and it was so hot!.. walking 10 miles a day through that terrain with enough water and food is tough. But dehydrated and hungry and with those temperatures is another level of hard! well done😊.
The physical and mental training required for such things is extreme. I applaud you for jumping into the unknown to discover more than you ever wanted to know about yourself and survival. I have backpacked similar territory but would never have the nerve to do as much as you did. And a dead bear! What a thing!
You're nowhere near being a failure at all! There's no way I'd be willing to try what you've achievement, 5 days in the wilderness, surviving on very little food and in extreme heat. Well done mate!! 👏👏
Actually you succeeded at doing your best at doing something constructive you'd set yourself, unprepared for what it really required. Don't pay yourself out for not doing something harder than your current preparation. You did something amazing ! Well done
Alex!! You literally made me cry!!! Tears for how proud I felt of you and tears for how disappointed you were of yourself! 10 yrs ago I hiked the Kalalau trail on Kauai and camped 32 days with just what was in our backpacks. My friends were 30 yrs younger, 27 yrs and 57 yrs. couldn’t have done it without them but yes all of our hikes, they would leave me in the dust and by the time I caught up with them, they were all rested and I needed to be interbated!! I decided the best invention was the toilet and the least? A mirror!!!Those are my most favorite memories for the 18 months that I lived on that amazing island….SO, bathe yourself in your accomplishments!! I know Emma couldn’t be more proud of you as we ALL are…
I don’t see that you failed. You did survive in the wild while walking a lot of miles every day. If you were just trying to survive, you wouldn’t necessarily be doing all that walking. You’d probably be looking for more food sources or shelter. You were awesome! 😎
In my dreams, this would be my ideal. However, I recognise just how difficult such an endeavour is. You did amazingly given this as your first experience.
You hiked for 4 days in ridiculous heat! You made fire! You survived a heat wave! You caught a fish! (Albeit it got away) You might not be little Alex's hero but you're definitely a wilderness hero in my mind!
I cant believe Jordan built such a big fire i do NOT think jordan is the best man for the job some of his decision's where not the best for a newbie like you. I am very happy you are still here to talk about the trip you took i am very very happy you had the chance to experience the GREAT OUT DOOR'S you might want to get in shape now for the next-time you go out just go with a good Gide not a TV personality.
You didn't fail, you excelled, you did survive an epic hike in the heat, the terrain you didnt have a map, you did awesome work. Heads up, wet your hat, your shirt, when you need to cool down
Jordan, how can you call yourself a failure??? You did it! You survived the heat and the wild terrain! I could not have done what you just did. Please don’t think of it as a fail. It was a first step toward your childhood dreams. Give yourself a big hug!!
I hope this episode gets a ton of views. It’s inspiring! You are a champ my friend. You endured and a new version of yourself came out. In a way just like a Phoenix. Well done!
Trust us, you didn't fail Alex. You achieved a lot in the short time you were out there. You can try your best in life at some things and still fail, that's just how life is sadly. You didn't fail in our eyes, you did amazing and it's easy to not focus on the things you did get right.
Oh my gosh!! You are amazing Alex! Noah will be so proud of you when he is old enough to watch this video! What adventures you will have with him!! Love you guys and your videos! ♥
Hearing your excitement to try again going forward I would say it was a big win. In my party class at college (rec management) we learned you always want to end with everyone wanting more. That is success.
Are you kidding me? You didn’t fail! I have chronic pain and have a hard time walking to the car sometimes. You did what so many couldn’t do, and you survived! Don’t be so hard on yourself. You rock!
Me too, I have psoriatic Arthritis!

I’m so relieved that you ultimately realized you DID SUCCEED!!
You hunted and gathered-you found nourishment!

I really enjoyed this video. I hope you're doing well, and Emma and Noah of course. Very introspective, very, real, very touching. Took guts I'm sure.
You did not fail! You completed your hike and learnt a lot about survival. It would have been much easier without the heatwave. Congrats on your success!
Hiking in that kind of heat is brutal. A lack of food and water would make it almost impossible. You did a great job!
Alex!!! So damn proud of you! ❤ please don’t beat yourself up, you did an amazing thing. Bravo!
Alex. You did so well considering you had no training or preparation and it was so hot!.. walking 10 miles a day through that terrain with enough water and food is tough. But dehydrated and hungry and with those temperatures is another level of hard! well done😊.
No way you failed Alex, you did it for all us dads and guys out there who would dream of doing this. YOU DID IT! Well done fella.
You didn’t fail. Just hiking in those mountains is tough let along the surviving. You did a great job!
The physical and mental training required for such things is extreme. I applaud you for jumping into the unknown to discover more than you ever wanted to know about yourself and survival. I have backpacked similar territory but would never have the nerve to do as much as you did. And a dead bear! What a thing!
Keep learning the first trip you take your son out will be the best trip you ever do.
You're nowhere near being a failure at all! There's no way I'd be willing to try what you've achievement, 5 days in the wilderness, surviving on very little food and in extreme heat. Well done mate!! 👏👏
It's better to fail at something hard than to succeed at something easy. It's more difficult but way more rewarding. Well done brother!
I know Emma couldn’t be more proud of you as we ALL are…
You did great, it takes balls to even try. Proud of you. 👍
You did not fail at all ….. you did really well, you tried, you learn’t, and you achieved!! Great job!!
Failure is a strong word. So many things are beyond your control in a situation like ...good on you for even attempting it.
I don’t see that you failed. You did survive in the wild while walking a lot of miles every day. If you were just trying to survive, you wouldn’t necessarily be doing all that walking. You’d probably be looking for more food sources or shelter. You were awesome! 😎
Yeah true, all the walking definitely made the other tasks much harder! 😅 Thanks
Great work Alex. You’re making the best of you trip to America. 😊
Alex, you did a lot more than a lot of people, be proud of yourself.
Thank you 🙏
Magnificent landscapes you were in! This is why your channel is one of the best travel channels on youTube
You survived!! Be happy about that!!
😂 I am definitely happy about that!
I hope this episode gets a ton of views. It’s inspiring! You are a champ my friend. You endured and a new version of yourself came out. In a way just like a Phoenix. Well done!
Yes
Trust us, you didn't fail Alex. You achieved a lot in the short time you were out there. You can try your best in life at some things and still fail, that's just how life is sadly. You didn't fail in our eyes, you did amazing and it's easy to not focus on the things you did get right.
What an amazing accomplishment Alex! You go….
Way to go Bear Bean! Keep going out and you will continue to learn.
Thank you! Yes! That’s the plan!
Oh my gosh!! You are amazing Alex! Noah will be so proud of you when he is old enough to watch this video! What adventures you will have with him!! Love you guys and your videos! ♥
YOU have my respect for trying so hard to get such interesting content. Great job, Alex.
I appreciate that, thank you
Hearing your excitement to try again going forward I would say it was a big win. In my party class at college (rec management) we learned you always want to end with everyone wanting more. That is success.
