Thank you very much! Appreciate the comments, hope one day you have one, I have some higher end guitars but this Martin just does all I need.

Great vid Steve 👍 Really nice guitar that. Which of the mics/DI sounded closest to the room sound (if any)?

Cheers mate! The SM57 was a little boomy on the bass while the Zoom L/R mics were a tad overbright, mids ok with both. The DI was actually better than I remembered it being. It still had that Piezo edge but had a good range across the spectrum. I would guess somewhere between them all for the real sound, none of them quite captured the open warm sound that the guitar has but guess the DI followed by the 57 was closest. Maybe if I was further from the camera the Zoom mikes would have balanced out much better :)

@@stevegroves Nice. Mic position has a big effect too, pointing it at the neck will be more bassy and nearer the bridge more top end. Even moving the mic off axis and pointing it parallel to the guitar can have an effect. Might be interesting to record the 57 and the zoom mic and mix the two together.

@@radboogie Yep been a while since recording acoustic with the mics. Seem to remember aiming at the 12th fret was supposed to give a balance but yep its a whole science! Guess its worth a bit of experimenting as bet every guitar will have its sweet spot :)

@@stevegroves when we were recording metal tones in the studio we used two mics per cab, one in front of one of the speaker cones just to one side and the other behind the cab. The mic behind the cab picked up monster bass sounds and this blended into the front mic gave a massive sound. So many variables to play with 🤓

@@radboogie Cool cheers for the comments mate really useful stuff. Some folks remove the backs from cabs / amps to get differeny bass responses. Acoustics is a blast from both our pasts and its still totally facinating! Recording and mixing is a whole new game :)
