I am just a retired guy with a passion for music but never really learned guitar when I should have.
Over the last couple of years I picked up the guitar again and am continuing to learn and hopefully keep improving.
This channel is for fun, for me to make videos and music while still learning.
I am now putting together short videos that I hope are interesting and also helpful to others on the learning path and for those that just love guitars, I leave in mistakes and guitar fluffs, I am only human, things go wrong and it reminds me of where I need to improve :)

Epi , they are turning out works of art.
I miss the days when a acoustic artist could pull off a show with just guitar and vocal. Hate that canned crap.
Still plenty of those artists around, but get what you mean. This pedal is great practice tool though especially for the non singers and folks learning. :)
Great review - helping me decide on my next amp.
Thank you! Believe me this amp is the biz! :)
Great review Steve, I've been down this holy grail road of amplifiers since the early 60's, seriously considered the 2x12 tonemasters, warranty of 2 years, then what? think I'll back peddle and get a Champion 2x12, running a tube Custom Concert at moe, to b......y heavy. Thanks again for a practical no flowered up review.
Thank you for your comments! Much appreciated! Its informed and experienced folk like you that help people when they read through the comments. This is why I do you tube vids :)
I just turn off all my effects except a little reverb. Then I hold in the clean button till the light flashes. Then restart it and it starts with just the reverb and no effects.. Works for me
Cool! Thank you for the comments, much appreciated. This is what can help folks and the whole reason I do these vids.
I've gone through lots of small amps trying to better my Micro Cube, including the THR10. All have been moved on, and the Micro Cube remains.
Thanks for the comments! Yeh this amp just delivers far more than the price says it can do.
Have you ever tried to put the phones output into another (clean) amp set to low amplification? Not for more volume (the Micro Cube is plenty loud enough), but to hear how it sounds through a larger speaker? Recently bought a used original Micro Cube like the one in this vid, getting to like it, also through good headphones and backing tracks via the aux in.
@@SaxJockey Yes, I have. Years ago, into a valve amp. It worked reasonably well but I vaguely remember reading something at the time that suggested it might not be very good for the amp you are feeding. Whether or not this is true I don't know. I find the Micro Cube alone is fine for my purposes.
@@xcx8646 Thanks for the response. My other amp is a hybrid (solid state op amp input, tube/valve power section) so might be OK, but I'll keep things simple with just the Micro speaker or headphones.
This is the first and only amp I've ever owned, had it longer than I can remember... and now that I'm looking up videos like this I think I can attribute the poor quality of this amp partly as to why I never really put much effort into learning guitar. I hate the sound of it, the volume issues really put me off, it seems prone to surrounding electrical interference quite badly, I can't stand the sound of the effects on it, so I kinda fell out of love with wanting to learn my guitar and just thought this was how it is.
Yeh its a massive fail for them to not fix the original issues on what should be a usable amp. Have to admit I am a Fender amp fan as they just do the job. have had some Marshall small amps and didn't keep them long due to background hiss / noise issues. Thanks for your comments, always appreciated to hear peoples experiences.
Damn that action
You're right, the necks are super comfy, especially the Indian stock.
Yep the necks are as good as any higher end Strats I have played, at least the Indian stock ones are, superbly made.
@@stevegroves For ultimate comfort try a Sterling by Musicman Silo 3. Thats the only one that ever bettered my old Encore. You can still pick them up for reasonable prices. Asymmetric neck profile. I've owned Teles.Strats USA Fenders but neck wise they couldn't beat the two "cheap" guitars.
Hi, thank you for your informations, i already have beatbuddy and i love it, i just bought a trio plus to create the bass sections, but while play together with beatbuddy and trio (just the bass sections) they lose the syncronization vetween them, is there anyway to syncronize the tempo between them?? thank you so much
Hi and thank you for watching and for the comments. Yes you can use the Tempo adjust pot, top left hand side of the trio to speed up and slow down the tempo./ playback speed.
The real downside to these little amps is the tiny speaker, if you can then I recommend fitting a "speaker out" socket and plugging into something like a 2x12, 2x10 or just about any larger speaker cab. These little solid state amps make decent "heads" and the tone improves drastically when you do, I would also forget about the drive channel as even a cheap drive pedal will be 100x better than the onboard overdrive.
Yep totally agree, my main amp is a Fender Champion 100, love the 2 X 12s in it. Even at lower volume it still has full range and clarity. The little Yamaha is great for what it is though. My little Orange Crush has an O/P socket and will drive a cab! Thanks for watching and for the comments, its appreciated.
I had the Westfield Les Paul copy and it was a nice guitar, I kinda regret selling it now.
Yep I have a few I really regret selling now too, always seemed the right thing at the time, but wish I still had them.
I have a black one exactly like that! My friend gave it to me in 1992. It actually plays really good, just don't bother with the effects!
Cool! Yeh they are actually really playable guitars, but yep those FX are not great these days!
I can't get any decent sound out of mine. I tried heavy & light strings. No luck. Glad it was a gift.
What amp are you using? just out of interest as not all guitars suit all amps. Also what sound are you looking for? Appreciate its hard to describe as we all have "that tone" we are striving for. Happy to help if I can, as even pick up height makes a massive difference. Appreciate your comments, my channel is a hobby that I hope will help folk out, if not from my advice, maybe from others.
Great video, thank you. I keep staring at the Gretsch on the wall.😍
Thank you! Really appreciate you watching and for the comment! Yeh I love that Gretsch, first decent, albeit budget guitar I bought. One of the best playing necks of any guitar I own and an absolute keeper :)
Killer video! This will end up with millions of views imho! Glad I got here early.
Cheers, all a bit of fun, enjoyed doing this one :)
Nice.
Thank you! :)
I have contemplated that Les Paul jr very much. They all sound great.
My most go to is an Epiphone SG Modern. Im a tele guy and this is my first SG. I just gravitate to it all the time. Also have a Squier tele, the first one I bought for my son a couple of years ago when I got back into guitar. $210.00 and it is fantastic!
An SG is a great all rounder great for mellow smooth sound or it can really punch out rockier vibes, lighter than an LP too if you go gigging! I am room player so the weight of an Lp is never an issue. Have to love a Tele sound too though!
Kind of on the same journey as you. Just turned 62 and got back into guitars with my now 17 yr old son. All of a sudden I have 7 or 8 guitars and a few amps...Love the channel.
Fantastic shirt! Im a Kentucky boy who loves Skynard. Never got to see them, but, I did get to see Rossington/Collins first show that was in the Fox Theatre, Atlanta Ga. I have the same amp. Picked it up for $20 and it rocks!
I have a Fender 10w Frontman and 100w Bassman and they are both great! My sons 25w Bassman is great! Tube amp.
I am a massive fan of Fender amps, love my Champion 100. Tried guitar through my Bass Rumble 15 and it sounded great!
Nice playing! She sounds great!
Thank you! Yep a very nice guitar and with a different feel and sound to an LP. Not better than an LP just different in a cool Gretsh way!
It sounds fantastic! Love my Epiphone Slash goldtop and SG Modern.
Cheers! I really am a big fan of Epiphones, my collection is growing!
Loved this guitar so much I ended up buying it the day after I made this vid! First thing I did was change those horrible strings. Pick guard is also chrome finish plastic and is original it seems. Just found out its a 1988 model!
All mine are High end Epiphones from 2021 ..I have videos of them on my channel with specs so there's no debate or arguments about them ..the Epiphone Quingdao facility is completely American owned and operated by Gibson Epiphone USA with American and Asian luthiers and only Epiphones are made there.. Epiphones are also 70% crafted by hand just like their little brother Gibson..I wouldn't sell my Epiphones for any Gibson..thank JC Curliegh for restoring Epiphone back to a premium brand in 2019/2020..
Cheers for watching and for your comments!. Yep I am a massive Epiphone fan, people knock them recently but they make great guitars at all levels. I do need to get hold of a pre Gibson company owned one, that is my goal, and will be worth the saving and the wait :) My highest end one is the 59 and man is that awesome! I feel the need for a custom shop one now too. Good to hear from another Epiphone fan cheers! :)
Stankfinger in the house!
I used it in church I want that box in the band
I love that gadget box in the band how to,
I have a line 6 spider 4 15 w and it's the sound volume or electronic sounds a little quirky when it push the buttons it gives a surge a power loud and then reduces to a lower level and if I move one of the you know sound level potentiometers they seem to affect the sound so it's something love electronic is going on and I'm wondering if there are place that I can take it to get it looked at and repaired if that's the case maybe it's the volume knobs and the level knobs I'm not sure but at least it works but I get a headache from it because it's just doesn't sound that great I don't know if it needs a better speaker or not maybe a celestian replacement
I found the out of two of these amps I tried they both had the same issues. Also found that some guitars just don't get on with the amp and just don't sound right. Could be that on yours the volume pot needs some contact cleaner put through it. They usually crackle as well if this is needed, but I think the issue is most likely in the design itself possibly. They are great little amps but not for everyone it seems. Thanks for your comments and for watching, much appreciated.
@@stevegroves thank you for the reply.
Did you say that it operates on batteries too?
I believe the microcube can run on batteries, think it takes 6 AA ones.
Lovely video and review, thank you for sharing
Thank you! Much appreciated :)
Check out what a guy from Louisiana (me) did with his
Cool! Exactly what this pedal is about.
I have a Kay E100 that I'm looking to sell. Not sure how much they're worth.
Condition is everything, but they have become a lot more sought after. Also prices may vary between the UK and the US assuming you are UK they seem to be fetching £200 upwards, though still some come up cheaper from time to time. All down to how much the buyer wants it. Good luck!
👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Steve🙏
Thanks very much! Much appreciated. I will be shortly doing a follow up vid on this pedal to show a bit more of the looping and band creating side, as well as some other features.
perfect review ! thanks for doing both strat and les paul demos!
Thank you! Much appreciated! and thanks for watching :)
Gee’s plywood lol my friend had a vintage or vantage tele that had a mdf body it served him well
I own the Line 6 Spider 3 30 watt version with a 12" speaker . I got it at a garage sale for 50 U. S. dollars. Would I buy one brand new, NO. Even if I do a factory reset by holding in the Clean button when I turn it on it still starts with the effects on. What I hate most about this amp is if I go from Clean to dirty my volume doubles and then when I go back to Clean I got to reset everything again. It's definitely not a gigging amp. The only time this amp really sounds good is when I use it as a speaker cab for my Vox 30 watt amp that I plug into the MP3 input and the 12" speaker gives me some really nice bass tones for playing the blues... Thanks for posting...
Yep its just too quirky for me! Good for second hand at the right price though. Thanks for watching and for your comments.
@@stevegroves 👍👍
Nice
Dealing with "quirks" I have this exact model amp with a squier and yeah I have an issue not getting that metal sound I hear from others.
Its a great little amp but it doesn't suit all types of pickups / guitars. I hope to be trying out the bigger version at some point, will be good to compare them. Thanks for watching and for the comments.
The guitar and it's single coil pickups are the issue. You need dual humbuckers for an attractive true heavy distorted sound
I bougut the 75w version for 100€ like 10 years ago, for the price its unbeatable
Yep great value and well built
@@stevegroves if you have an Arduino lying around you can build a pretty simple footswitch, don't need much else with this amp, you can have 5 levels with 4 presets each I think, can pretty much handle anything. Of course it's not the best sounding amp but it barely scratches the bank.
I have one and if it ever quits on me, I will buy another. Great for being creative.
Yep most useful pedal on my board
What s the prizes
Does it work with a keyboard vs guitar plug in
Good question, not tried it as dont have a keyboard to hand, but my thoughts are that the input circuitry is geared around the low level signal that a guitar creates and not for a keyboard. My guess would be its not suitable for a keyboard, someone may hopefully be able to confirm this answer or give more detail. If I get chance to try it I will update.
The fungtion of D.I female jack ??
That was my first guitar, bought in 2007, and now, 17 years later, I still have it (along with 2 Ibanez RGs, one Fender Telecaster and a Charvel San Dimas). It's very light and comfy to play. A really great guitar.
Sounds really good, pretty nice! ✌🏼
Thank you very much! :)
For home playing, forget it. These things are loud
Use mine at home, part of the reason I bought it was because it still sounds great with lots of clarity at lower volumes. But yep probably overkill as a practice bedroom amp :)
@@stevegroves Yeah, there like a solid state 65 twin. Great sound, but over kill. I went for the Roland JC-40 after my Blues Jr Died. The Roland does everything, and in stereo if you wish!
@@marccarter1350 Only tried a couple of Rolands and was very impressed with them, they make superb amps at all levels
Thank you for this review very informative I am soon to buy one these.
Thank you! You will not be disappointed the amp is great! Have fun with it
TBH This is a pretty good little amp, and after playing other cheap amps the OD is pretty good!
