Super fun pedal! This may sound weird but I'm a clarinetist (no that's not the weird part thank you very much) and I use pedals (slightly weird) and thought this pedal would be fun to... emulate clarinet (and there it is). I love the Mellotron clarinet (and trumpet and flute and cello) sound, it's off in such a great way. But my concern is how the sustain works with an instrument that already is sustaining. You mentioned at the end that you've tried it with keyboards. If you put a non-decaying synth patch into it, does it sustain as long as you hold the note? and when you release the note does it trail off in a nice way? thanks so much for the video!
Thank you! and thanks for your interesting comments! I only am aware of it workig with keyboards not had chance to try it personally yet, That said though, I think the sustain from the pedal would last certainly as long as the keyed note / signal and then some more or until another note was played. Hope that helps?
@@stevegroves thanks for your response! If you don’t mind, i have another related question (to get a sense of how the tracking works). If you just strike a note on the guitar and let it decay, at some point the pedal’s note will cut off, because the guitar note is too quiet, right? Is it a sharp cutoff, glitchy, or gentle fade out?
@@PeterJaquesMusic Its a nice gentle fade out created by the sustain setting on the pedal. I can cut the effect off quickly by muting the strings suddenly but if just left to decay it all just fades away quite nicely. Sensitivity to the note can be controlled to a point via the attack pot at the start of the note. I will go check the fade out to confirm what I have said and respond if I am wrong but from memory its a nice fade away..
@@stevegroves thank you so much! That’s really helpful… looks like i know what my next pedal will be (and literally just yesterday was New Pedal Day, picked up an MXR Poly Blue Octave:)
Forgot to add you can blend your other effects with the Mel 9, such as phaser with choir is a weird interesting effect.
Sounds real good, thanks
Thank you! :)
