My mom bought me a gameboy color on accident at a garage sale. It came with a few games, including Donkey Kong Country, and I remember playing it for hours on end. Best accidental gift
This port/demake has always been fascinating to me. It felt absolutely nutty what Game Boy could do in late in its life, I honestly hope this version of DKC ends up on Switch as well
Donkey Kong Country on the GBC always seemed interesting to me from a technical standpoint. I think it pretty much pushed the GBC as far as it could go, and I have to give them credit for that. It's funny that DKC would get ported yet again just a few years later on GBA, which is the portable version of DKC that I went with. Nothing beats the original though, and I'm glad I can just load it up on my Switch nowadays if I want to play it on the go. Great video!
Just be careful how you buy it. You may come across a copy that doesn't work. I had to buy another copy on mercari. I would show you what I mean, but a long story short, most gbc games aren't cleaned or soldered very well, so one copy I got I put the game into my gba sp and the game didn't work it had the GAME BOY Nintendo logo and then it was just the white screen of death but then the other copy I got it worked. So again, be careful how you buy stuff online
@@Bardockssj2003 thanks, theres a game store near me that sells it. they also do game repairs and stuff, so if i buy it, and it doesnt work their likely to fix it. thanks anyway
When I was a kid I only had Donkey Kong Country 2 SNES, but had all 3 Land games and GBC DKC. Considering how different Donkey Kong Land 1 was to DKC compared to how amazingly faithful Donkey Kong Land 2-3 were, I am glad that DKC got its second chance at a faithful Gameboy game.
I have all three versions on my Samsung Galaxy S8 (yeah, I'm still using a 2017 phone as I don't believe in upgrading when the phone I have still works and is still supported) thanks to the Internet Archive's complete ROM sets you can download in a ZIP folder, and I play through the GBC version a lot.
Depending on who you ask, but Gameboy Color was considered a stopgap to extend the Gameboy's lifespan just a little longer while the Gameboy Advance was being worked on.

I'm going to give it a go on my Analogue Pocket I have played it years ago but doubt if I finished it.
I'm gonna have to give it a play, I recently completed Super Mario Bros Deluxe and enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

NGL Rare was the king of porting games to gameboy/gameboy color.
