      I have a similar issue as a curvy midsize petite woman. Finding clothes and/or patterns that fit my body is... A challenge. I am a beginner and also learning to adjust my clothes and patterns to my body. And to draft some basic patterns based on the rare clothes that fit me 👌
      That's why I appreciate Claire's acknowledgement of our similar difficuties when she says "curvy and plus size".

    Thank you so much for taking the time to make this list of free patterns. I'm so glad that the manufacturers are starting to make more full size patterns. I had stopped sewing for myself because it was such a pain for me to have to adjust the patterns for the fuller bust. The price of patterns here in the states have gone up tremendously over the past 2 months. If you know of any tweens or half size childrens patterns that are in the 14 1/2 or 16 1/2 size range I would appreciate it. My grand daughters are also on the fuller size now and I like to sew for them. Thank you so much!

    • @Penguinandpear
      @Penguinandpear  5 лет назад

      Hi ya, on my laundry day tee i show how to do a bust adjustment for a knit pattern (with no dart) so check that out if you are still having trouble. Patterns are so expensive! Check out love notions and rebecca paige for childrens patterns. Theyre not really my area of expertises but I know those companies do them for children.

    Hi there ,
    I’m back into my sewing with my old Janome and husky lock serger which are still going strong .
    I’m really enjoying your videos and am learning new tricks cos I’m a curvy one and short too . So thanks .
    Nothing ever fitted properly and I always have to hem everything. Now I’m sewing I’m getting things right with a few rookie mistakes along the way .
    I’m in Australia and if u like can send u a paper copy of Peppermint mag . It’s a great read and the paper copy is lovely to have .
    The trade off for me would be if u could do a episode just on how to give a nice hem on dresses , tops and armholes with stretch fabrics .
    I’ve just made a Tabor V neck and I’m very happy with it but my hems are rolling and just look not so neat .
    I serged the edges and then did a two needle top stitch but it isn’t the best look from the inside .
    Thanks again . Best wishes from Australia .
    Keryn

Presently my workload is high for the channel and am not in a position to be taking on requests of this kind. I have ME so am a lot more limited than many others. I do do some technique and instructional stuff on my top tier on patreon but presently I can only put your request down as an idea and cannot commit to doing it. Sorry I can't be more help but do look up on youtube im sure others have done what you're looking for.

    Great vlog Claire! I have made a couple of those patterns: the LDT, the In the Folds jumpsuit, which is a great pattern and a really easy sew, the Yoko which I have just made and it is a cracking pattern. I also love the Made for Mermaids Chloe skirt pattern, it’s a lovely comfy skirt and a really easy sew. Great made in Scuba or Ponte for the winter. Another great free tee is the DIBY club ABB women’s tee - which is so versatile and a great wardrobe builder. I have loved watching your sewing and weight loss journey. I have sewn a few of your featured patterns for an upcoming cruise and during the cruise I will be kicking off my keto diet. Most of the fabric I have used is inexpensive as I want to save to good stuff for when I reach my goal weight.

    • @Penguinandpear
      @Penguinandpear  5 лет назад

      Thank you Eileen. Ooh which ones have you sewn? Unfortunately I cant do keto as my body has problems processing fat, I'm just trying to be mindful. I'm happy to lose it slowly as I lost it super fast in the past (100lbs in 7 months) and it ended up going back on. I used to think like that about fabric but now I feel like I want to look and feel my best whatever my weight, and there will always be more fabric. Saying that, there are a few pieces I wish I hadnt used but thats more to do with my skills than my weight.

      @@Penguinandpear The Laundry day T and the Zoe Blazer. I am so sad I can't upload a picture. I made the Blazer in a jewel toned purple twill lined with black raw silk lining. I also made a Snow White costume for a Disney Cruise and embroidered T-Shirts for Disneyworld for my 4 grandchildren. I lost 100lbs on Weight Watcher 25 years ago and then got pregnant at 42. The baby weight never came off and then I went into menopause and started gaining more weight. I too deal with serious health issues and had to retire from my profession and decided to take up sewing as a hobby. I run a non-profit sewing school for girls in Northern Virginia and repair mechanical sewing machines that I purchase cheap off of Facebook Market place to give to students who would otherwise not be able to purchase themselves. People in Northern Virginia have been extremely generous in fabric donations for the school. You have really inspired me to achieve in spite of my troubles. Thank you.

    I have the laundry day tee which I’ve made a couple of times in different stretch fabrics but I find that from the waist down really big and I have to take it in quite a bit ( I consider myself pear shape 14 bust - 16 hip). I love the cowl version - really cosy around the neck. Will be making some more
    I have the pdf of another that you mentioned (the grainline Tee) but I’ll be sending that off for A0 printing (pet hate is taping A3’s together !!)
    Thanks Claire for your great informative vlogs - much appreciated 💐💐💐

      Hi ya, the LDT is a swing style top/dress so it is supposed to have lots of extra room below the waist. If you want something with less ease below the waist you might want to consider more of a body con style such as the Sheona top/dress from athina kakou (not sure if shes selling atm but if you look at that pattern itll show you what i mean). I also hate taping a4s together too! Glad you like the vlogs! xx

    I'll be making the tulip tee I think.
    I haven't yet printed out a mood pattern ... But all of the ones I've looked at seem to call for a lot more yardage than I would have expected. I suspect they have rather inefficient cutting layouts.... Being a fabric store perhaps this is a ploy to sell more fabric (oh no, conspiracies!).

If you are looking to actually grade it up from the edge of the pattern, I have a tutorial that I made last year on my channel for grading up the ogden cami, while there are no sleeves in that pattern, the rules will be the same so you might like to check that out.
