    The reason why the river border is like that is because rivers move, but borders don't. Those "creeks" that you talked about are actually oxbow lakes, remnants of the old river path.

      I'm not even African and I can pretty comfortably assign most of the people in the video to one of the two groups. If the person looks like they might be from Nigeria then they're Hutu and if they look like they might be from Ethiopia then they're Tutsi. There is a wikipedia article called "Origins of Hutu, Tutsi and Twa" that goes into detail especially on genetic evidence.

      Cameron H. you would be wrong to base your judgement only on physical caracreristics. a tustsi can look like he might be from nigeria but being in fact tustsi because his/her father's ethnic group. that's more than physical appearance.

    Burundi, officially the Republic of Burundi, is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley where the African Great Lakes region and East Africa converge. It is bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and southeast, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west; Lake Tanganyika lies along its southwestern border. The capital cities are Gitega and Bujumbura.

    Hey, this is a great video, but there is an issue with the ending. Burundi and president Nkurunzinza have currently very strained relations with Rwanda, accusing president Kagame of backing the 2015 mutinies, and having a hand in the assassinaton of several high-ranking Burundian officers. Furthermore, Bujumbura has accused Kigali of acting as a safe-haven for anti-Nkurunziza forces. So I'd say that at the moment, Rwanda is the current government's worst nightmare, absolutly not close friend.

    The "problem" with the river borders with Tanzania are because these semilunar lakes were part of the river. The water some times brakes through and the river is strait again. So these are old river borders. It's "something like" the Croatian and Serbian borders, not the same but close enough.

  • @joeschmo2693

    Those 'nearby creeks' are oxbows, which are former bits of the river. Don't know, but they might mark the river at a time when a border was drawn.

    The river borders Tanzania claims are not "creeks" but are oxbow lakes, a former area of a meandering stream that has been cut off as the river's direction changes. The Mississippi River has many oxbow lakes.Tanzania likely made the border claim in the past when the river ran along that path, which is now different today due to the stream's meandering.

    I really like your channel. I just want to clarify, that the reason the border between Burundi and Tanzania has those enclaves on either side f the existing river is because the course of the river has changed since the border was established in the 1920's. The border jumps to oxbow lakes that are left over depressions along the old river route. The same thing happened between the border between Illinois and Missouri along the Mississippi River. One good example of this is at 37°54'7.70"N; 89°55'12.38"W.

    This 2:10 borders look like that because they were created alongside the "meanders" and later the river got straightened by erosion. :D You might see same thing in Croatian border with Serbia (it has made a border conflict between them)

    • @KarloBatur
      @KarloBatur 8 лет назад

      +Hoodiecrow I live in Croatia and I think we consider the border to change as the river changes, and Serbia thinks the border should stay the same as it was when negotiated. Or vice versa, I'm not sure. This has created a kind of no man's land thing (to Serbia it is no man's land, to us it is serbian territory)
      And that shithole liberland happened.

    • @rarelibra
      @rarelibra 8 лет назад

      +Hoodiecrow those are not "meanders", they are called "oxbows"
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxbow_lake
      and if you look up the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota, you will see border disputes based on historical annotation of where the river ran, with land lost due to oxbows. The "meandering" is the movement of the river itself.

    • @xTheFree
      @xTheFree 8 лет назад

      rarelibra I've never said they are meanders. I said that they were created by them by "straightening the river" (or by process of side erosion (which takes places in meanders) which cuts off parts of the river - saying correctly)

    • @rarelibra
      @rarelibra 8 лет назад

      Hoodiecrow sorry for the misunderstanding. We're both on the same page, it seems.

    "Each province has roughly the same number of people."
    Wait, a situation in which provinces/countries/states/whatevers are partitioned in such a way so as to have equal populations ACTUALLY HAPPENED?!! Alright, who else has seen the map of the US in which all 50 states have been redrawn so's to have the same number of people in each state and also the map of Europe in which all of the countries have been redrawn in the same fashion? Because otherwise this statement's gonna be bewildering otherwise.
    Also, it's time to learn some chemistry-- LATER!!

    Paul, I have a suggestion. Maybe you should talk about some of the countries' military too, like recent conflicts in the past 50 years, have they been invaded, how strong is their military, etc. Its just a suggestion that could bring more views and could help people who are mainly interested in topics about conflict. Just a though!

    This was a very good !!! I liked it! However you mix burundi's history with rwandan history and it's understandable!!we are soo similar!! rwanda was a confederation of small kingdoms and chieftains with hutu and tusti kings , Burundi however wasn't a tusti kingdom but a kingdom ruled by ganwas, who are still considered a etnic group of their own. And after the colonizers left the president who did a coup d'état to dethrone the king (ndayizeye the son of mwabutsa, i think) was Micombero a "hima" another ethinc group who had been marginalized during the kingdom era. I sincerely hope tho that this labels (hutu , tutsi, twa, hima and ganwa) are becoming more and more irrelevant!!! And by the way this where indeed ethnic groups and not social classes but ethnic groups that had mixed and blended over centuries to the point of having one language and one culture, in Burundi what mattered was your clan ( big family) not ethinc group.

    • @semuganzabicusulaiman2353
      @semuganzabicusulaiman2353 3 года назад

      @@Chilbuli_Baby the name was Ndizeye not ndayizeye and Burundian kingdom was never put in Tanzanian territory stop your nonsense. Very big part or big territory of Tanzania in western Tanzania was belonging to Burundi like kigoma province of Tanzania was founded in Burundi long ago before Tanzania conquered it. And all you have to know is that in Burundi we have 3 tribes only the Tutsis and hutus and twa and the Ganwa and Bahima were just clans of Tutsis not tribes stop lying people the only thing is that the Ganwa were the first class of Tutsis to rule Burundian kingdom they had power and they were so rich than others clans but all you should know is that the Baganwa or Ganwa was not a tribe but just a clan of Tutsis and these are the good and real Tutsis not even mixed with other tribes

    About border rivers: those creeks and lakes are former riverbeds (of the main/larger river). It is possible that border originally followed the river, but the river has since changed it's course. It would be easier to keep the old border, because of land ownership.
