The racing cyclists of Burundi have a dangerous job. But it’s a vital one for Burundi’s economy. Bicycles are the main means of transportation in one of the smallest countries in Africa. Bananas, the staple food in Burundi, are transported from the markets to a banana beer brewing factory. We accompany Tharcien, a bike courier, on his exhausting cross country trip on the Burundi Highway.

The cyclists of Burundi have a dangerous job. First of all, they’re completely mad and second they can compete with any adrenaline junkie earning a boatload for their antics. These guys barely scrape by yet they persevere and defy fate with their racing ways while transporting lots of bananas and other unwieldy stuff you’d normally use a truck for. Nope. These guys do it all on bikes.
And these cyclists are a vital factor for Burundi’s economy. Bicycles are the main means of transportation in one of the smallest countries in Africa. Bananas, the staple food in Burundi, are transported from the markets to a banana beer brewing factory. We accompany Tharcien, a bike courier, on his exhausting cross-country trip on the Burundi Highway.

Yeah very right the country is working hard. But bro I’m telling you almost everyone in Africa works so hard. But what you get in return I mean your earning get no much rewards. Mothers in Africa would’ve been the richest, they did hardly sleep working daily and earns so little. Lotta works get no futures in here bro. Unless if the government interfere and start exporting foreign and give 75% or more percent or less percent to the workers. There things might get better, or trust me it’ll just stay the same. Just speaking my mind tho. Sorry if I’m being offensive

the problem is: the government is corrupt and incompetent. istead of facilitating the self-sustaning farm economy, they will go for the alluring glass-buildings and surrender their green agrarian-economy to do outsourcing mining and cheap construction jobs ! the lure of the western model of development will destroy the planet in no time !
