It would be nice to have some kind of integrated chip collector that still worked with the light. I could always switch back and forth but it would be nice to not have to do that.

Your tools are made to last for decades.. Obvious greed, and nothing else... there is no technical reason to make it not fit older routers, so this is deliberate decision...
