Excellent video. Another instructor suggested when you are using the Domino machine in the vertical position the easiest way to turn it on is to pinch the switch. That is place your thumb at the bottom of the Domino housing and index finger on the top of the switch and pinch together. Try it you will like it.

Thank you for this video. I'm a Yank who has just retired and getting my wood shop back in order. I've been on the fence about buying a domino and your presentation of the tool and how one uses it is very helpful. Obviously, this tool is very accurate and saves a lot of time, but as an hobbiest I have to weigh the pros and cons with the only con being its cost. Your kind demeanor and wit is a bonus and much more enjoyable than most of the content I've found. Subscribed.

Peter, I just bought a Festool Domino 500. I needed to join 1+1/4" legs for a "spider coffee table" that has legs cut at weird angles. My biscuit cutter just wasn't the right tool. The biscuit cutter is going up for sale. You are a wonderful teacher! I bought the Domino joiner with all the accessories you demonstrated. After I purchased the Domino joiner, I figured out how the accessories mounted but had no idea of which situations you would use them. RUclips and Peter to the rescue. Your video demonstrated that perfectly. Festool should hire you to demonstrate their tools. Your video covered everything about the tool from A to Z. Plus you made me laugh several times with your humor...."sod's law" aka what we yanks call Murphys Law. Thank you so much for the time you spent making this extremely helpful video. I wish the U.S. would get rid of our antiquated and cumbersome imperial measuring system. So many valuable tips in your video. I especially liked your tips on how to set the depth.

@@NewBritWorkshop Funny, My father's name was Parker growing up and for some reason he changed it to Peter later on, Parker to Peter. I have been doing woodworking professionally to semi professionally since the 70's in a large shared shop in San Francisco's warehouse district with a couple other young guys.Long since had to move out of there. I am self taught and call my woodworking grade "B". Always room to learn and improve. You talked me into getting the tool and the domino set with blades. Fortunately this next job will pay for it. I am building a second 2’x4’ wall mounted bookshelf using a rabbet & dado joint at the corners. Cutting the dadoes on my router table isn’t too difficult, but getting the rabbet just right is “a bit fiddly” to say the least. Even on this simple project, a domino jointer would save me hours. Thank you for this excellent demonstration.
For me, the fundamental question is whether I want to focus my efforts on the *process* of woodworking or on the *product* result. I do enjoy figuring out how to get something “right”; however, right now I need storage for my other workshop that has nothing to do with woodworking. In other words, I need the PRODUCT completed and a domino jointer would make that so much faster and easier.
As a side note, that slot you have running around the edge of your table looks very handy for holding work pieces upright. I’m getting ready to make an MFT-type cutting and assembly table and that’s a detail I hadn’t considered before.

    Hello Peter,
Thank you very much for this introduction film. Thanks for sharing your experience, this film gives me, as a novice, a very good start how to use it.
I ordered my Domino by end of June 2021. With luck it will be delivered by November 2021.
Have a good time and stay save. Regards Andreas

Hi Andreas, Many thanks for the kind words. Festool kit is not cheap but worth every penny and the Domino is a real game changer - you will love it. Demand has always been high but waiting another few of months may seem tough - it will be worth it. I am waiting for a new German made motorhome and the delivery date has slipped several times due to Covid. We expect delivery in February having first thought it would be in November. Waiting makes it all so much more exciting. Cheers. Peter

I found this incredibly helpful after my day of trying to do these exact joins for the first time with a domino. I was ready to give up woodworking entirely I was so frustrated! Thank you for explaining these concepts so well, I look forward to trying again tomorrow :)

I love your video's! They are my "go to" source for good information. One thing to note is that the cross stops can also be used when joining long boards together. Align the pin in the edge of your previous hole and there is no limit to how far you can go with perfectly even-spaced mortises; they don't have to be aligned just from an end. My Parf Guide Mark 2 system is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, I can't wait to use it.

I need to add, Peter, that I have put my DF 500 to work with impressive results. First mortises were a perfect fit. I truly enjoy using the machine. Proper dust collection has made the the operation dust free. The accuracy of the mortisses is impressive beyond my visual capabilities. I look forward to using the loose tenons in many creative ways. I have ordered the DF 700 for use in larger projects primarily on your recommendation. Thank you again for your guidance in my woodworking pursuit.

Hi Peter, a refresher course is worth while, as a frequent user of the DF500 sometimes bad habits develop such as keeping your fingers away from the front of the machine while cutting. I think more videos as this will be beneficial. Thank you

Hi Geoff, I used to have a big morticing machine but still had to make the tenons the hard way. I sold that machine and also my Lamello biscuit jointer and bought the DF500 from Axminster with a few accessories. That transformed my woodworking and I just wish that I had done it earlier. The Domino is a fantastic machine and mine is now 11 or 12 years old. It has never gone wrong and I am still using the original cutters. I have gone through many bags of 6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm dominos and made some excellent joints (and the odd bish-up through haste or stupidity). Many thanks for your super feedback. Cheers. Peter

Great video Peter, clearly explained as always. I have had a DF500 for several years and now that I am fully retired am using it more for various projects, including recently with some Sipo dominos making some hardwood garden furniture for ourselves, which has inevitably resulted in some requests from family members. Many friends know that I have the machine and I often get requests to make a few joints for them as they know I would never lend it out (or any other tool for that matter!). Payment is never expected but a bottle of something is always welcome. Nick White
