Most of the mean posters clearly did not watch the whole video. If y’all can make time from being self righteous, you might want to actually listen this time.

I camp with two large dogs. My oldest knows better than to bark at a campground but my youngest is still learning. There is never more than one bark out of him before I remind him to be quiet! No yelling no extra barks just a firm “no quiet”. Other campers have the right to a peaceful quiet camping experience. Train your dog. It’s not that hard if you’re consistent.

I used to take a girl friend and her Afghan to a dog training class. I was watching the activity with the instructor, a senior German women with a heavy accent and I asked her how long she had been training dogs. She replied _ "I don't train dogs, I train their human owners" Never forgot that comment. Still laugh about its ironism.

I boondock 100% of the time, partly to avoid dealing with selfish people like you. Not once did you indicate that you had any compassion for the people in the RVs around you that do not want to listen to your dog barking all the time. Instead you played drama queen and victim. You deserve no apology, and in fact you should be the one apologizing for your dog being a nuisance to your neighbours.
If your dog barks at the people walking past, then train him not to or don't chain him up outside. Show some consideration for your fellow RVers. It's not all about you.
When my Golden Retriever was young, I nipped barking for no reason in the bud. It was not difficult, and it did not take long for him to understand that this was not allowed. Where I boondock in the desert, as I am doing as I type this, if my dog sees movement of people anywhere near the RV, he woofs once and runs to me to alert me. Because I have no neighbours that would be bothered by this single woof, this is perfect for me. He alerts me with one woof, and then shuts up. If I had thought that I would be staying in RV parks with very close neighbours, then I would have trained him to not even woof once to avoid being a constant nuisance.
If you can't or won't train your dog not to bark all the time, then at least admit to yourself that YOU are the problem, not the people complaining. You can't blame your dog. This is a YOU problem. How often do you think your neighbours at other RV parks may have been very irritated with your dog's barking, but didn't bother to complain? Who in the world wants to listen to someone else's dog barking just outside their RV?

    • @phyllisfindsfreedom

It’s rare to meet perfect people, so it’s so great to hear from you. I guess it’s ok when you’re perfect to say nasty things and judge other people.
I’m sure you have considered that I am a real human being with feelings, so it must have been very important to you to still say what you did, knowing the possible effect on me.
I hope it gave you a lot of satisfaction, and helped you with whatever unresolved issues you have.

@@phyllisfindsfreedom Oh please. Can't you stop playing the victim for even a few minutes?
I am not perfect and I understand that you are not either. But you seem to have learned nothing from the experience. You spent the video playing victim and denigrating the park employee who was just doing his job. He was likely making every RV within earshot of your dog happy by talking to you.
I'm sure you are a nice person and didn't mean any harm. And I wouldn't have written anything if you had learned from the experience not to let your dog bother people in other RVs. But it appears that you didn't. Sorry if I was a little harsh, but a lot of others commenting felt the same about the need to control your dog's barking.
BTW..boondocking solves this issue if you can do it. My dog is unleashed and somewhere around the RV here in western Arizona. There are no other RVs close enough to care.

Seems like a lot of pettiness on all parts involved. A 10 minute monologue about your dog barking at passersby, and someone - understandably - complaining. If I were you, I'd reflect on my outrage-threshold and conflict-solving skills, and how to choose my battles more wisely. What the camp host does or doesn't do all day on his ATV is completely beside the point here.
What is the point, though, is the fact that you failed to train your dog to not act territorial when the territory you're on isn't yours. Shrugging it off with "he's a dog!" really doesn't fly when you're out and about in public spaces and people are bothered by his behavior, even if he won't actually attack. Dogs are trainable. If you don't know how, consult a professional trainer.
Btw, this would make a great r/AmItheAsshole post. I'd love to read what the AITA community has to say about this. I'm guessing, YTA.

We had an RV park in NE Texas until two years ago when my partner died and i decided I had had enough of flat Texas and the blatant racism, and returned home to the the beautiful NW. The biggest problems we had were with dogs.
    Our park dog rules were...
    'No Barking'.
Dogs must be on short lease away from and in campsite and under control.
No Tethering Dog to Tree, RV or other Fixture .
No Dogs left unattended. If a dog was outside an adult had to be physically outside to monitor dog.
No Defecation/Urinating at campsite, Use designated area and pick up poop.
We did allow a small dog to be outside in a portable dog or toddler fence.
We also had a group campfire area where dogs were allowed an a fenced play area for dogs.
The biggest problem we had was people leaving their dog inside the RV and leaving camp. Some dogs would bark incessantly and very loudly so as to annoy and disturb the tranquil beauty of our Piney Woods campground experience.
It is disappointing and revealing how many people don't read the rules or think they don't apply to them. The rules are there to protect people. Protect dogs. And to preserve the camping experience for all. The last thing a camp host/owner/Manager wants to do is have to deal with the human(?) owner of a dog. People are far more dangerous than dogs. I was physically threatened and even shoved. Called names, once to a chorus of "Beat the Shit out of him". Once a guy revealed his sidearm to me. All highly stressful experiences no one needs.
We love dogs and had three Pits that had the same rules applied to them.
We also had rules regarding Exterior Lighting at night. We were a 'Dark Sky' park.
Phyllis , It is unfortunate that the situation soured on you, but we can all get off on the wrong foot depending on the attitude we bring to it.

1st off a camp host has several jobs. Security, Maintenance , and to insure everyone has a pleasant time. A barking dog is a nuisance and can spoil the experience for everyone. He probably got complaints from other campers. A dog that charges and barks at people is an aggressive dog and is a threat to the health and welfare of others. If your dog does bite someone you and the Park can be held liable . Training your dog not to be aggressive is a good idea from a liability stand point. The other person that was asked to leave is probably the one that complained to the host. Their solution to get both of you out and that solves the problem, at least wise for them. I am no expert but I am a security guard, my Ex wife was a dog trainer ,I have spent time camping on public land and several decades ago I worked with the Forest service mostly maintaining public rec areas . When you want some one to leave the last things you need to do is be or have a confrontational attitude .They simply sound sympathetic to the parties involved in order to keep things from escalating. Even if they believe you to be in the wrong.

When we got our dog and knew we’d be traveling and camping, we knew we’d have to train her to not bark at other dogs or people. There’s nothing more irritating than a barking dog that barks at every moving thing or for no reason. Dog owners need to be respectful of others. Our dog doesn’t even sit in our yard and bark because she hears a “noise” or a siren or whatever. We’ve received more compliments on our dog’s behavior than I can count. Open your ears to your dog’s barking and listen to what others hear. It’s not hard to train one. If you want your dog to bark at everything, I’d suggest you do dispersed camping instead of with other campers.

As a dog owner owner myself I can tell you this #1 you can train your dog to be non-reactive to passers by and other walking dogs. Dogs bark in a situation like this because they are attention seeking like little kids, and / or they feel insecure and may pick up on your feelings of stress. Secure well trained dogs don't bark unless there is an actual percieved threat, as in it's 3am and you get a knock. So yes I can see how that would irritate the crap outta me. I go into the woods to hear the birds, nature sounds etc---NOT barking dogs. #2 You had options. Go to the office and asked to be moved to a different site. #3 Go get a soft muzzle. #4 Carry a frozen soup bones for him and give him something else to do with his mouth. Dogs NEED TO RUN, if he's in the vehicle all day, then on a leash, they build up "barrier frustration". They need to run on a remote dirt road behind the car/truck/van for a few miles. Or in an enclosed ball field/dog park, an empty tennis court or take them swimming, lake, river, ocean. They need this like food and sleep, like the car needs gas. It is not an option if you do not want a depressed or sick or bite prone dog. I lived in Kerrville, Texas. I had 6 dogs. 5am everday they ran 5 miles before it got hot. If I could manage that with 2 little girls, being a single mom, than you can handle it too. Training my fur baby not to bark unnecessarily was the first thing she learned, even before "sit", wait, down, stop or pull. Quiet was #1. good quiet got a treat, barking no treat. It took her being alone in her wire kennel for just 2 nights. The third night, her kennel got moved to the bedroom. This one, Nina, she's still a puppy at 6 months. You can do this. We also use a whistle at times. Dogs need to learn stuff so they are not board out of their minds. Put a little doggy back pack on him, and walk him around the campground. Make him carry sticks for a fire, anything to give him something to do. I walk Nina up and downstairs, over logs, across walls, all kinds of stuff so she becomes confident. She is learning to jump over things these days, over chain gates, over not very high stuff but all this engages their brains. It keeps them happy. It will keep you neighbors happy too. I want people to remember Nina, and welcome her back so she can go everywhere with me. I want her to be well trained so she can be well liked....last word, next time breathe, nothing's worth stroking out over. Remember 2 things, dude has a lot of campers to keep happy. And this too shall pass. Aloha

the camp hosts in a texas state park are volunteer for site positions. unfortunately some use it as a permanent position especially if elderly or not able to work. its tough for the parks to fill these positions so they allow and encourage long term camp hosts. i have volunteered to work in state parks and noticed that some of the volunteers become territorial and the park rangers (superintendent included) tend to overlook or enable unfriendly behavior. not excuses for this bad behavior. dogs do bark but, the action of the owners to curb the dogs barking can go a long way to help others understand.

I have had dogs that never bark at strangers and I have had Barky dogs that react to everyone even butterflies. It will take you some time and patience on your part to help your pup be non reactive to strangers and only bark in an emergency. When pup is on his lead outside your van and barks at someone that walks by just bring him in and say no barking and have him sit for a few minutes then let him back out. Keep that up every day he will figure out that if he wants to stay out and enjoy the nice day he can’t bark at everyone and everything that walks by. Now at night when he barks in the van praise him for protecting you and your home. He’s a smart boy so I know you will be successful and it will make your travels a lot less stressful and you will have even more fun adventures with your best friend.

Phyllis, is there something you can do to make it so that ur dog won't bark at people? I think they make some kind of electrical device u can put on ur dog and it'll give a little zap if the dog barks and they learn through conditioning not to bark. my ex-girlfriend had a little puppy and she taught it not to bark by giving a little tap on her nose whenever she barked. now the dog is older and whenever she wants to bark she just goes, "ruuuffff" in a very quiet, muffled way. it's funny to hear. i know a lot of people will complain in RV parks and state parks if animals are noisy. i have two cats. i don't have dogs because of the barking they do. cats can be a real pain in the gazoo if u are a student, though. they will try to sit on every book and every piece of paper u have. it's very annoying and i have to be very aware of not putting books or papers on the floor.

New Subscriber! Phyllis, I would prefer to be around barking dogs than ignorant people, any day. He’s just talking, when he barks. My dog does the same thing. She has something to say :-) Your dog is adorable! You are welcome here in Wyoming ! We are very Dog Friendly.
Take Exit 329 off I-80, to Vedauwoo, free Camping. It’s gorgeous, and dogs are very welcome.

I had the dumbest, most loveable pit bull mix you've ever seen, RIP. She didn't bark unless someone was at our house, because if she barked outside, I took that to mean that she wanted to come in, and brought her in. So as long as she wanted to be out, she knew to be quiet. Easy peasy.

Park rules are there for a reason, 6 ft leash, no "noisy" dogs, if rules are broken you can be asked to leave are all part of the very clear written rules.. We camp with 2 dogs, they are NOT allowed to bark at people. We understand not everyone loves dogs, and we strive to be good stewards so we can continue to bring our dogs to parks.

@@phyllisfindsfreedom Who is "feeling superior" here? You think you are above the rules, and then get all self righteous when someone calls you on it. Just camp, have fun, follow the rules, so we all can continue to camp. Have a great day!

Mmmm....yea i really try not to give those types of people much attention because you know, thats really what they want. They are insensitive to the feeings of others and after you have enough of them you recognise the antics before they even open their selfish, ignorant mouths.
I dont appreciate a dog that constantly barks, and my dog used to bark, but he also used to listen. I miss him terribly. Yes ignorant domineering people usually have a strong dislike for vulnerable people with dogs because it takes away from a source of supply for them to get their attention and admiration.

That's strange. I didn't hear Buddy barking at anybody the 2 nights I camped with you at the park, nor did I hear him barking at all the people walking past at the beach. You are doing a good job with him. Don't let it get you down. And you are right. He is not dog aggressive. My little Koko can sometimes irritate dogs to the point that they attack him, but Buddy did not. He just took it all in stride. Keep up the good work.
