  • I’ve been at this a little while now, and one of the things I’ve really enjoyed about having this channel is the comments that come along with each video. I do read all the comments you write, even if I don’t get to respond to them all. I do try to make it a point to answer questions that come my way.
    But I realized that when I’m looking at videos for other channels, I’m not likely to read more than a few comments, even if I do leave one. So if you guys are like me you’re probably not seeing a lot of the answers I give to questions. So this video take care of that.
    Let's answer some questions!

    09:34 - Short hood forward or long hood forward?
    11:31 - Can suitcase connectors be disconnected and reconnected?

    I have Electrofrog Peco turnouts and they are capped from the factory. The older Electrofrogs were not gapped. I chose not to use the Peco insulfrog because they can short out just past the plastic frog if the metal wheel tread is wide enough. I'm using Tam Valley Frog juicers to energize the frog. I too have an odd shaped basement but I managed to do 32" minimum radius curve. I am running the Ford FAST which have the 2 doors per side but D&RGW did have a few 8 door that ran in trains too.

    On the frame,near the steps, is a small letter "F".That is an FRA regulation to designate the front of the loco,based on the orientation of the control stand.

      Correct. But many people aren’t aware of that and the letter can be tough to see on a model.

    Excellent information. As a B&O modeler with a layout set in mid-1978, I appreciated your accurate comments about the Chessie System. To go a bit further, the companies were kept separate due to extensive tax advantages B&O enjoyed in the State of Maryland. B&O officially merged into C&O April 30, 1986 (a date which will live in infamy) as a steppingstone to full merger into CSX Transportation later that summer. Although not B&O, I have a lot of Pennsy / Penn Central / NYC stock that I have re-stenciled the reporting marks to "CR" to reflect my timeframe. I don't get hung up on super detailing freight cars, but I make sure they are correctly labeled - and now I know to double check the Trailer Train logos on my autoracks.
    There was just so much variety in the 1970s and early 1980s I am surprised more modelers don't choose that era.

    • @ThePixelDepotLLC
      @ThePixelDepotLLC  2 года назад

      Sounds like we have similar outlooks about accurate equipment. Although I have been known to leave some of my NYC and PC equipment in their original numbers instead of re-lettering for CR.

      I believe another (and maybe even more important) reason why the C&O opted for financial control vs. a full merger at the start was due to B&O's precarious financial condition. By maintaining it as a separate entity, the C&O would be able to protect its bond rating on the event that the B&O were to default on its obligations.

    Liked this very much. Wouldn't it have been great to have had the funds to buy 3 to 5 car kits a week in the late 70's?? It is just like buying a car a month and an engine every 6 months back in the 50's when my Dad started me out with my first Lionel train. Like your GM plant. I work with a 4-H club and I recommend that the slots be cut under each turnout even though you might never use them for switch machines. Better to cut them as you lay the track than have to go back and try to cut them and not hurt the track. But most of the 4-H people do not build portable layouts. On my road I used 1/4 inch sub floor under 1 inch foam. "If it's cheep, I buy it". I like that...

    Hello Joe
    I really like your channel, thanks for the great work.
    I would like it very much if you did a video about printing signs.
    At this time, I make my signs with paint then print them on paper and glue to styrene.
    I would like to get an idea about how to start printing decal.
    Thanks

    • @ThePixelDepotLLC
      @ThePixelDepotLLC  2 года назад +1

      I often use a similar method to what you do, although I typically go with adhesive sheet instead of worrying about glue, but either way works just fine. I've done my own decals, as well. So I'll be sure to include that if (when) I do a printing video. 🙂

    I just noticed that you pronounce Peco like Piko. In German we do it different (Peco approximately like Payco) to avoid confusion. Then again ... Piko might not even be widely distributed over there. (Very shortly put it was the most important manufacturer of east Germany which was successfully restructured after reunification by an investor and later opened a big factory in China.)

    • @ThePixelDepotLLC
      @ThePixelDepotLLC  Год назад

      Although I'm aware of Piko, I don't feel like it's very common here. And we've pronounced Peco the way I did in the video (at least among my group) forever. I have heard some others pronounce it as you mentioned, but in smaller numbers.
