That’s not an “ exit fee”, that is EXTORTION.
The progressive UMC wants these smaller, mostly conservative, churches to close so they can be sold.

We are a very small church with about 11 members. We are in a rural area and most of us are retired living on fixed incomes but we know God dwells in our hearts and our church, and we know he will provide. To all small churches leaving . Stay strong in the lord. We will not fail you as the United Methodists have.
I’ve never even been in a Methodist church but this is pretty ridiculous from an outsider perspective

Yes, true. I pray that churches faithful to the Bible will trust God to provide for them when they obey Him. It shows the truth about the denominational leadership when they hold churches hostage over property.

At least the Methodists hold people accountable, unlike the “once saved, always saved” cabal. ❤️
You are right that we Baptists have dropped accountability that the Gospel calls for. We need to move away from the American theology of individualism that allows sinful behaviors go unchallenged.
However, the reason for the split is that the Methodists are not holding themselves accountable. The Bible is clear that homosexuality is a sin, but the progressive Methodist say otherwise. The Book of Discipline bans practicing homosexuals in leadership, but the domination violates this by ordaining openly practicing homosexual pastors and bishops.
The denomination power structures are using financial strangleholds to keep churches under their power to support the progressive movement.
Cabal? Who laid hands on John Wesley and made him a bishop? No one...self declared...what a mess...from the start.

If you really studied church history, as I did at the graduate level, you would see how laughable your statement is.
