I review the new TaylorMade Burner Mini Driver, inspired by the Burner drivers of the 90's. The golf club is a perfect driver replacement for any golfer who struggles with a traditional driver off the tee. I run through the technology as well as testing providing performance data along with my personal views on the looks and feels.

Damn who remembers Burner and Ti- Burner?
Beautiful club really. The color scheme is awesome. Very sleek looking.
Got one. They sent it two days after ordering it. Played with it yesterday hit it great.
Great Video Mike!
Love the Channel ☀️
Awesome ! First review I’ve seen on this .
Love the new mini looks. Have the Original One but will be picking up one of these bad boys😎
Great content and review. Cheers.
Thanks for reviewing and showing the data for weight forward and loft down/face open as I ordered in the 13.5 to do just that. Lots of reviews don’t understand the want/need for mini drivers but for me into wind when you can’t go left (when I’m prone to hooking driver into wind) I think ball on lower tee with face angle and lower spin/flight will be a great addition to the bag.
I just have such an easier time keeping smaller faces straight, as a 8 Handicap this Driver is for me. I already hit it long enough, but it takes away a pesky slight draw I have that can’t control. I’m hitting way more fairways for that I’ll sacrifice an extra 10-15 yards all day.
This…100%. That’s exactly what I was thinking too. I am a low single digit handicap and the driver is by a mile the weakest part of my game. I am leaning toward getting the 11.5 degree club because you could take it up to 13.5, but I feel like my sweet spot will be in the 10-12 range.
Its a must have club as all the TM minidrivers have been for those wanting more accuracy of the tee
I have the 13.5 version of this club set at 14.5 wow what a club I find it easy to hit off the deck to
I do love me a good 2-wood: this makes me super curious, always, but the deep face definitely seems to make this mini-driver favor the alternative tee club duty vs. fairway howitzer.
Just ordered mine. This is a great review. Thank you so much and keep up the amazing work
Good review.. I am impressed, I am using a mini driver Aeroburner since 6 years ago.....and I love it, it's better then a 3 wood for me....HCP 10.2 and senior from 68
That's a nice looking club.
I just ordered one. On and off, I've been using an old Callaway Big Bertha Mini and found that it flies straighter and goes almost as far as my modern Callaway driver. I've also been using a 3W for a lot of tee shots this winter. I'm torn between the quest for ultimate distance of the driver and the safety of the Mini or 3W. Hopefully the BRNR will be the Holy Grail club I've been looking for....
It came in the mail today! I played a couple rounds on my golf sim and in very impressed. I got the 13.5 model. At stock settings it was no better than my fairway wood. So I turned it down to degrees and now it's amazing! I was consistently hitting as good as my driver off the tee and better than my three wood off the deck. Really spectacular performance right now.
@@TedInoue sounds very tempting to order this...mmmmm mini driver 11.5 or STEALTH 2 HD in 9
Get the mini. I got the 11.5 model - I'll be pulling my driver and 3 wood out of the bag. Going 11.5 Burner mini, 3 utility iron bent from 20 to 18, 7 wood (21 degrees), 4/5 hybrid, 5-PW and then 50, 54, 58 vokeys.@@GOLFADDICT65
Great review. Off the tee would you hit up as in driver or tee lower and hit down slightly like a 3 or 5 wood?
I watched this video and bought this mini briver yesterday. Today I played very stable, no OB, no off the fairway.
Bought one in 11.5 and absolutely love this thing
Replace driver?
Love your videos... is that Trackman software projecting that driving range in graphic form please?
So the degrees its a stronglofted 3 wood.
And that's a perfect fit both from the turf and tee.
I has one it was unfortunate lost but it was a rocket flew about 330
I have the 300 mini, but I wanna buy that headcover lol
Best review on these yet! I’d love to see the 11.5 turned down a degree or two. I think that’s going to be a really good driver replacement option 👍
Just got an 11.5. Sold the Callaway Rogue Triple Diamond LS. Gonna crank this down to 10 and see how she goes 🫡 I have a feeling I won't be missing the driver one bit
A better option might be to cut down your driver to a shorter length (and add weight to account for the shorter length) as the driver heads will be significantly more forgiving than the Mini driver.
@@jakelindsay6251 both ways can be good. Some people have an easier time squaring the smaller head up
I am already thinking about carrying 2 of them 11.5 set at 10.5 and my 13.5 at 14.5 ...I already have the 13.5 it's amazing
I have a much easier time squaring up smaller heads
Maybe the best looking driver I've ever seen
Hi Michael loved your review 👍, used 2 Wood 30+ years ago & loved it (a wooden Haig Ultra) Think this New Club is a great idea with all the modern improvements it’s a Winner, think the loft at 13.5 is perfect Thanks Dickey 9hcp 76year senior golfer
Can you compare it to Pings Rapture. I use it to replace both driver and 3 Wood.
I've been replacing my 3-wood with several generations of the Mini Driver since the first one emerged in the SLDR series. I seldom hit it off the turf, but I can. (I prefer to hit a 3-hybrid). Frankly, this club is my "fairway finder." Deadly accurate and about 20 yds shorter than my driver. I hit it from the tee more frequently than I do my driver, and it caused me to really tweak my driver to ensure I was maxing it out and making it valuable to carry both. Because I set it at 13.5 degrees, and because of its weight distribution, I can it it off the deck.
Of the four generations of the Mini, I've gamed 3. This one is utterly superior to previous versions, and it isn't even close.
I love my 300 mini using it similarly. What makes the BRNR so much better?
I play the blackout taylormade mini . I turned loft to 13.5 and use a ventus black 3 wood shaft . Very accurate 260 club for me . great club in my bag because i don't really ever have the need to hit a 260 shot from the deck.
Love the copper! I',m a big fan of mini drivers...wonder why so many amateurs don't realize how gud it will make their game!
agree! shame TM only supply a limited amount, can sell these all day long
I loved the burner shaft. I wish they would bring it back. It truly made a difference. Why did they pull if off the market?
Considering that the shaft is nearly as short as a 3W shaft, what shaft weight does the manufacture recommend -- driver weight or FW weight?
I just bought the 11.5 degree, regular flex version. I have hit the club in two configurations - the "factory" set up and then with the only adjustment of 4 degree lie angle (4 degrees more upright). I fully expected to see a different ball flight, but frankly after more than 30 balls in each of the two configurations - I did not see any difference to the ball flight. Both were very straight with little cut or draw at all. This has perplexed me as I surely expected a change of 4 degrees would cause a big change in ball flight - thoughts???
Considering making an 8 or 9 club ultra light carry bag with this at the top of the order
Good luck me too !
Is this with the stock stiff shaft? with your swing speed, wouldn't you need XS or TX?
Does it travel further off the deck than a 3 wood, if it’s the same or less then it’s only use is as a driver replacement
Is the adapter compatible with a Taylormade driver adapter? (so you could put a driver shaft in the head)
How does the stock shaft play? Previous mini driver shafts have been pretty lame.
Nice review 👍. You may compare the distance of it to inesis 500 size 1 or inesis 900 size 1. They all have about the same shaht length, around 43.5".
Inesis driver 500 and 900 are more accurate and more forgiving than this new taylormade burner mini driver due to the fact they all have same shaft length, 43.5", and inesis has bigger head than taylormade burner mini driver.
Are there only two shaft options for this club?
I don't play with it, but I still have the bubble shaft clubs.
Looks like they developed a 2 wood and marketing told them “mini driver” would sell better.
Especially when pros are replacing their 3wood with them
100%
Looking to replace driver to hit more fairways…. Could be a sensible option .
Would be nice to see a comparison with the Titleist TSR2+
TSR2+ not the same size at 190 cc, so more fairway oriented than BRNR mini driver.
This seems like the TSR2 - 3 wood plus. 13.5 degrees meant for the tee.
Michael, I put an adapter on an XStiff bubble shaft. I really want to mount this bead on that thing!!
Shaft technologies have advanced tremendously since the bubble. Better to get a modern after market shaft than something off the rack or especially an old bubble shaft but could be fun making it somewhat retro.
I'm not a 460cc fan anyway. I only use 440cc drivers.
Another great review Michael……how does the Brnr compare to the Titleist TSR2+, they seem to be aimed at a similar requirement / golfer, what is your view?
Love to get my hands on the TSR2+!
I think the last overview of the shot grouping says it all. The white dots in the middle of the fairway would be the way to go imo.
300 mini VS the BRNR mini?? Is it worth the upgrade ??
Would it be better to just have a driver with a shorter shaft instead? I'm trying to figure how a mini driver is more easier to hit than a driver whcih has a bigger head with shorter shaft. Is it the loft or does it have to do with the smaller head (more aerodynamic?) Curious is all, not trying to make a statement.
13.5 degree with a left hand loft sleeve, up to 15 and “open” face and you have your 3 wood replacement
I had a TaylorMade original One several years ago it was OK but not as long or accurate or forgiving as my Titleist Driver.
What’s up with the inside of the headcover though ? Rainbow ? Is this gods driver ?
Look inside the headcover! It’s the the colour of the rainbow!
🤨
@@somguy5035 it sure is Som
The fact this retro look wasnt the actual 460cc driver and we got some hack Stealth2 is a travesty. This would have been an awesome driver release
I agree, if they made this, it would sell well.
Nice review Mike. The one combo you didn't try was with it lofted down and the heavy weight in the back. I'd like to see how that impacted the numbers/dispersion.
I play the 300 mini in 11.5 turned down to 9.5. My avg numbers are right around 290 with 2200 spin. It does indeed sit square now. It’s an amazing weapon.
Same thing, just haven’t found the proper shaft to pair with it
Callaway's Mini Driver is still very hard to find and fairly pricey. I think they had the right idea and the right size. The mini burner from TaylorMade has always been too big to actually hit off the deck. They need to decrease the size to about 260 CC.
I the callway mini 1.5, was not very forgiving out of the centre
You needed to turn that headcover inside out!
Looks great. To be honest, I bet the regular golfer would hit this well.
I have a much easier time keeping smaller faces straight. It seems counterproductive, but just seems to be my result.
Love to see you lengthen it to 46 and put an ultralight shaft in it and lowest loft setting for some bombs!
Completely defeats the purpose of a mini
@@MrRyankush43 it’s called having fun!
Not really. The smaller head will still square easier than a 460 with the same length shaft.
I hit the driver Ok, but prefer the look of a smaller head. Going to get the 11.5, dial it down to 9.5 and put a full length driver shaft in it.
Going to have a pretty high swing weight with a driver-length shaft. Put a heavier grip on it. That will bring the SW down some.
Good review, but you didn't say anything about the shaft or flex options. What shaft were you hitting with 108 swing speed and what shaft would you recommend for 115-120 mph? Thanks.
They only offer one shaft option in the mini in regular or stiff only
@@MichaelNewtonGolf Thanks Michael. Which of those two shafts would you recommend for your 108 swing speed?
@@KenHollowayshow Either could work.. but without knowing someone's swing, stiff would be generally advised by most.
This is a NEED. I’d replace my driver with the 11.5 degree, just adjust it to a 9.5 and let it rip. I’ve always liked the look and feel of smaller driver heads
I'm surprised the ball flight didn't went balloon
Sold - Going 11.5 Burner mini, 3 utility iron bent from 20 to 18 degrees, 7 wood (21 degrees), 5 hybrid (25 degrees) , 5-PW and then 50, 54, 58 vokeys.
16 clubs? Hell yeah. I keep a 5-P and a 5 hybrid as well
@@justCarner Nope only 14! After further testing I actually changed my bag set-up currently using the following :
WITB:
Grips - MCC +4 Mid-size Align Grey
Driver - ZX 7 MK2 - UST Proforce V2 HL F4 shaft - Cut to 44.5"
3 wood - ZX MK2 - UST Proforce V2 HL F4 shaft - Cut to 42.25"
7 wood - ZX MK2 - UST Proforce V2 HL F4 shaft - Cut to 42" | 3 Iron - ZX MK2 utility - UST DART 90g
9 wood - Cleveland Halo - UST Proforce V2 HL F4 shaft - Cut to 41.25" | 4 iron - ZX MK2 utility UST DART 90g
5-PW - ZX5 MK2 - UST Recoil 95 - Standard length
50,54,58 Degree Vokey wedges (SM8/9)
Putter - Taylormade B29 Reserve
Ball - Srixon Z-STAR Diamond | Kirkland Signature Performance +
Rotate in the 3/4 utility irons on windy days/shorter courses. Excited for this season!!! 😁
Its just a 2 fairway wood is all with a larger more forgiving face than a 3 wood. Such hype! See it often with higher handicaps they can't control a driver but then hack a 3 wood since the face is too small. TM will never just say this is a 2 wood since then the marketing deflates like a balloon.
Whats the best colour castle tee for this?
Either pink or white depending on your angle of attack
@@MichaelNewtonGolf one thing im struggling with is hit it like driver or like wood i hit my 3 wood off red tees was thinking blue for this
Adjust yo current driver loft up all da way and choke down a lot...
And now u have saved yourself $500! 🤑
I would want this as more of a 3 wood replacement, but that deep face makes it harder to hit than it should be. Shallow out the face a touch and were gold. 13.5 is still 13.5 no matter what. I like it, but it's not for me. It's not going to fit in the bag. I carry my 3 wood now 260ish.
Sole will get scratched really badly from hitting off the turf and where is the carbon face?
Doesn’t all soles get scratched?
@@MichaelNewtonGolf not the V Steel on the Stealth…
Apparently TM claim the carbon only works with a larger, driver size face - would explain why they haven’t used it on the fairways
Change the weights around miles easier off the ground
Never understood this club over the years. Harder than a 3 wood of the deck as hard if not harder to hit as a driver. Only place i like it is instaed of a 3 wood of a tee.
It's a deuce!
Purchased the 11.5 degree and started hitting more fairways without losing much distance at all....
I am wondering who is this for. Bigger the head, easier to hit but this is smaller (315cc?), can not hit like a FW Woods. May be this is for those single digit players.
Some people find it easier to get the smaller head square.
You didn't talk about the price.😮
£379, better than Driver prices 😃
Why not just use normal driver head with a shorter shaft?
You can as long as the swing weight is adjusted properly.
So it’s a 2 wood
So more or less its like an old driver size head. But with way more loft.
Yes today drivers are way to big
They said they were not going to make any driver without a carbon face
😬
Look like duracell battery
The sound is one thing I don't like .sounds like a click .very good looking club but the sound I'm not sure about .
I think the head should be bigger with a longer shaft. Oh wait.........
🤔
@@MichaelNewtonGolf I was teasing. Just being funny.
😃
@@MichaelNewtonGolf I still think you're one of the best. Thanks for all you do.
I just don't see a need for a mini driver, with the adjustable 3 woods already on the market its redundant.
They should have saved the burner name and color scheme for the next generation of carbon faced driver. Would have flown off the shelf.
Taylormade basically making the same shit with different colors for the mini driver
Haha. I think this is probably very close to a repainted mini 300…. They added some weights and adjustability though
If u can't hit a driver , you can't hit this. Lol
Devils advocate: why not just put a 3-wood shaft in your regular driver or the 43.75" shaft? You're going to loose a little club head speed so maybe you want to increase the loft a little but maybe what you lose in club head speed, you gain by improving contact?
Put my original one MD shaft into a SIM2 driver - works a treat.
More gimmicks by TM. So they made a 2 wood!? Tf is a “mini driver”?
Not impressed at all. Taylormade is to techy with wanting so many driver options. I will keep my Titleist TSR3. Thanks Michael.
Titleist have 4 drivers in their offerings, same as TM
@@MichaelNewtonGolf technically TM has 5
not sure what the issue is with releasing a club that isn’t for you
Which is the 5th?
Does he mean the Kalea?
This is kind of a useless club. Way too hard to hit off the deck. What most people should do is shorten their driver to 45 or 44.75 like Mizuno does. That would increase control substantially.
43.75 much shorter than 45, would that not gain even more control?
@@MichaelNewtonGolf obviously theres trade-offs. But that comes at another hit on distance that going from 45.5 to 45 would. As much as i love the idea of a mini driver, the overlap at the top of the bag its a little hard to fit. Id personally driver at 45 and then have a driving iron 4 or 3 wood set as a 4 wood as options for dog legs or if my driver is off. The 4 wood and 4 iron are easy off the deck too. Where a mini driver would fit for me is hard to make work
A truly pointless club imo. I’ve owned the SLDR mini and the Original one Mini Driver in the past and they spent very little being used. My intention was to use both as 3 wood replacements ( I had the 13.5) and all they did was making ( picking it) impossible off a fairway. It does neither well… as a driver or a 3W replacement
