Probably my favourite piece Barry as it was a monster job getting the paint off. Your such a patient man and it shows in this end result. A real beauty you have restored
Don't give up on citristrip for getting layers of paint off. ;) I found you have to leave it on overnight and wrap it in plastic so it doesn't dry out. Works great, just have to have patience. Stunning work, you saved a gem!
What a process! So glad that you finally chose to "do it the right way" with the drawer detail because even though it would likely have looked good even if you had not removed the pieces, I suspect the result would not have quite been to the quality you achieve with your fine work. Bravo! A masterpiece returned to its glory or given even greater glory!

Beautiful job and well done! I've stripped a lot of furniture and woodwork in my life and I like the fact that you are so honest about the labor it takes to do the job right. The outcome really shows that the painstaking effort pays off. When I was young, painting old furniture was the rage. Then, people realized a lot of that furniture was solid wood and stripping and refinishing came into style.😏 Now with cheap, throwaway furniture being mass produced, we're back to painting and eventually stripping. It's doing my heart good to see another generation seeing the value in preserving quality. This truly makes my day.

Absolutely beautiful. This is why it makes my stomach hurt when I see people slap paint on antique solid wooden furniture....also beautiful natural wood in historic homes--it's just criminal. Amazing restoration.
It all depends on the quality and condition of the piece or the woodwork. I just had all the dark stained woodwork and doors in my house painted white- but it was just cheap 1 x 4 pine in the first place.
@@thekatvita Yes..I picked up a vintage desk-ish vanity..Not the best shape and already painted. Scuff sanded with wet sandpaper in case there was lead in the paint. Fantastic job, the dresser looks amazing. A true labor of love. One of the best transformations that I have seen you do. I am so grateful for your channel. Two years ago I decided to leave Oregon and move to Southern California to live in my micro camper to save money. This meant that I could no longer work on mid century furniture projects. That was a hard pill to swallow. Because of your channel I can vicariously live through your work. And for that I thank you. Always looking forward to new episodes. Happy Holidays
@@MadCityModern Thank you for asking Barry. I haven't used any social media to chronicle my journey. And after more than two years of living this way it no longer seems so unusual. I usually use multiple layers of stripper when there are multiple layers to remove. Hi Valerie! I finally realized I didn't have any other choice but to remove all the pieces. I will remember this as I continue to shop for restoration projects : ) Also, thank you for your support as you watch the ads. Barry
Absolutely stunning restoration! Well done, I wasn’t even sure if this piece could be saved, but you not only saved it you restored it to its former glory. 👍🏻
I've had great luck with Citristrip in the past. As a newbie it was nice to have it penetrate just one layer at a time- I knew I wasn't damaging anything and it was fun to see the different colors the piece had over it's life. I can see how it would be frustrating for someone under a time restraint. It works best when laid on thick, covered with plastic and allowed to do it's thing for 30-60 min
this is one of the few times I’ve seen a refinished furniture piece I didn’t absolutely HATE. definitely still prefer the natural wood and your restoration (as I usually do lol) but the past owner didn’t try to make the dresser look obnoxiously trendy which I really appreciate.
Yeah I'm not sure if the blue and white was a good choice for an iconic piece. I had to choose a dark finish to conceal some of the damage caused by the prep sanding before paint
I agree. I kinda liked the blue and white, and thought they’d done a decent job of it. Nice and graphic. Definitely not keeping “an iconic piece” in its original style, but not terrible for an update by someone just wanting to make a piece work for themselves, who probably didn’t know it was “iconic,” may very well not have cared, and almost certainly didn’t have the skills to do the full restoration that would have been necessary to make it usable. Paint was doable for them, and for once, it didn’t suck! As someone who has occasionally painted furniture and would be unable to do the full restoration myself, I sympathize with the previous owner. And I’m sure that it’ll be glorious when restored lovingly, too. :) (still watching!)
You're a master! It is so wonderful to see someone restoring furniture to its former glory. Everyone just wants to slap paint on these pieces! Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I think it's just because it is cheap and easy for people who need something to use and don't have a lot of money. They don't realize what they have nor so they necessarily care at that moment. Some maybe have it in the back of their minds to later on "refinish it someday". But again most don't have the idea of the work that goes into these things. As we've seen, it isn't a couple hours on a weekend of stripping, sanding and staining like they might imagine.
Oh my gosh!! This piece is killer!! So so beautiful!! I’m sure you are so very proud of her!! You have the heart and soul of a true woodworker. My father( and my mom as well) did this kind of work for years and years and he was a master!, so I know about which I speak!! Absolutely stunning restoration! Well done, I wasn’t even sure if this piece could be saved, but you not only saved it you restored it to its former glory. 👍🏻
Hi Lauri. Thank you for the support. Barry
I used to like Citristrip, until they changed the formula, and I discovered Klean Strip
Stunning. When I saw that dresser, I knew it would be amazing. The detail on the top drawers are so cool. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. This one was difficult but worth it
Seeing you bring new life back into these furniture pieces really inspires me to make my own works of art again! Amazing work! ❤
Can't wait to hear about a project you decide to take on
this is one of the few times I’ve seen a refinished furniture piece I didn’t absolutely HATE. definitely still prefer the natural wood and your restoration (as I usually do lol) but the past owner didn’t try to make the dresser look obnoxiously trendy which I really appreciate.
Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hoping the paint trend goes away for awhile
His methods were a bit different but in the end, the furniture could just speak!
Wonderful job on the beautiful dresser! I would certainly be proud to have it in my home, that’s for sure!!
Thank you again.
Barry
These dust linings inside is an indication of a company with quality methods. BTW, cool layout for items used on this amazing transformation 😍
Hi Kathy. I love comments like this. I continue to learn new things from viewers like you. Thank you for the support. Barry
I'll never understand why someone would paint over a beautiful stained wood finish. Bravo on this wonderful restoration!
I have no idea either
cause they think paint enhances it...c'mon folks. I don't think it does but I am all for function and use, rather than dumping pieces in a landfill.
