@@RivianDad Love the video but I think it's too soon to tell if the R1S greenhouses or not. The true test will be Spring/Summer next year. The forums have said it does greenhouse so if I got an R1S I'd be ready and willing to tint it before it starts warming up next year. Also why did Rivian not do an automatic tailgate instead of manual? So strange
@@chrisginoc thx. I guess I’m going on two bits of info: 1 - that in person it seems like the tint is pretty good so shouldn’t get too hot. 2 - our experience with summer in the R1T. Yes, got a bit warm. But not terribly so.
@Rivian Dad / Scott, really nice overview. I can confidently say you did a 100% accurate review not only because you have the R1S ... but mine finally got delivered this past Saturday!!! and your review is spot on! I'm looking to forward to my next road trip to CO to visit family, go skiing and whatever I/we can get into. Again, nice job on the review. Looking forward to your spare tire video.
Thanks Chuck! And congrats! Yeah, it’s a super nice vehicle, my wife is falling in love little by little. Or maybe all at once. :-) No, I’m not jealous :-)
great video! im hearing multiple people who have driven or own both the R1S and R1T say the drive dynamics are noticeably different. they are saying it might be due to the fact that the software is optimized for the R1T. they also say the build quality is not as good at the R1T thus far and that you can really hear and even feel the air compressor for the suspension from inside the cabin.
Thanks David! Yes, they do drive differently. I'm still feeling it out because I have two different sets of tires to muck the waters a bit. I'm planning to do a side-by-side with the R1T and talk about that after I have a few more hours in the R1S. My first impression is that the S is "sportier," which is basically to say that it can turn tighter, really. But the T is more stable on the road, probably due to its longer wheelbase. It doesn't seem like a software problem per se, but possibly something that some software tuning could help with. As for the air compressor, I haven't noticed that at all. I'll listen for it.
Scott, great video. I live in the Cory Merrill neighborhood of Denver. Based on your videos it looks like you live in central Denver? One question I have is regarding driver profiles. Can my wife and I have profiles tied to our phones/carabiner that adjust to our individual driver settings (seat, mirrors, steering wheel, drive mode, vents) when we get into the car? Just received my R1S delivery data of APR-JUN 2023 so hoping the Denver center will be offering test drives in the coming months as I've never driven one. Thanks!
apologies for not replying sooner! Yes, we have a driver profile for each driver and it works pretty well. However, there are glitches. For example, even though we consider the R1S my wife's car, the system still says I'm the owner, and she is listed as driver. I can't find a way to change that. Also, to use a specific vehicle, you have to select it in the Rivian app first. The app is not capable of sensing both vehicles at the same time. So, for example, if I have the R1S selected in the app and walk up to the R1T, it won't unlock until I switch it in the app. Thx
I would like to see roadtrip packing/ range tests. maybe some gear videos for the R1S, like you did with the T, or some aftermarket items that you use every day like some camping stuff. Other items that i did not mention was towing, water testing some off roading more club stuff so we can be up to date or maybe an agenda for the next 6 months.
The 22-inch tires look great! I think you mentioned that your T has different tires? Maybe a future video about tires? I know Kyle from out of spec has recently done a deep dive into range, but maybe more from an owner's perspective. Ride, noise, and potential blow outs on those 22's lol!
Great video! What’s the interior measurement from the rear lower tailgate to the dash. Us fisherman, surfers, and skiers want to know the max length for fitting gear inside through the middle pass through seat.
Scott - as you have a T and an S I hope you can answer this question. If you have the front row seats in both vehicles in the same place is there more legroom in the second row of the S (with that seat all the way back) compared to the T? I know the seat in the S can recline which adds flexibility and comfort. I ask because I tested a T today and legroom was only OK. I have an S on order and hope it has a little more legroom.
The Rivian 1S will become the next Model X. Not sure where everyone is from watching this video, but in Southern California where I live everyone and their mom's drives one. Same cult following will happen for the R1S
I tend to agree. I think it's true for women in particular, who are less likely to buy a truck. And, having spent some time with the R1S I can say that it is worthy.
Great Review - interior is not so family friendly, no childseat friendly tilt etc. Still great car. In my opinion Rivian will make R3S - full size suv following R2S - smaller 2 row. I hope Rivian is also working on Adv Van for active families too.
Great video! Can’t wait to see how the spare tires works out. - Any Road-trips planned? - How is the ride with the 22’s? We have one on order but haven’t got to the configure stage yet.
Thanks! Spare tire video coming soon. We’ll be on the road for the holiday with the 22s. I don’t love the way they ride. I’d prefer the 20s. But I may try some new 22 inch rubber and see how that changes things.
Yes. I’m glad that I have the 20s on the R1T so I can swap them if we ever decide to take this out on a trail. Also, I’m not sure how it will do in the snow. I’ll keep you updated! thanks for watching.
Question 1: Front trunk divider - one or two magnets? If the former, thoughts? Question 2. Front trunk - 12v outlet? Yes/no? Question 3: Compressor vibration - how is it? Loud?
A1: two magnets about 18 inches apart. You can sort of see the outline of where they rub in the video (2:45) A2: 12v outlet, yes. (not shown in this vid) - NO 120v outlet in the frunk. A3: Haven't noticed it except from the outside. I'll keep an ear out. Thx for watching and commenting!
How far up can the front seat go up from the floorboard and how much headroom is there once it is at the highest position? I am 6'2" and long legged. Thank you!
Could you mount a bike rack to the hitch, to see if the tailgate/back glass get in the way? I have a VelociRAX that folds away from the vehicle and I hope the tailgate won’t hit it
I do like them. I will be getting a snow tire next winter though. As for range, it’s a non issue for me. I can’t really tell between the 20s and the 22s.
Waiting for my R1S to arrive this summer. Every video I have watched shows the carpet in the back of the second row seats bunching up when the seats are folded down. Any comments on this? Has Rivian acknowledged this issue. Any challenges sliding long items over that carpet.
The front of the Rivian is Iconic; love the design but the rest of the vehicle is ok. I wish they duplicated some of the front design in the rear of the vehicle. Check out the Fisker Ocean; now that is a beautiful vehicle all around.
Hi Rivian Dad. Does your R1S have a 12v input jack in the frunk to plug in, for example, an electric 12v cooler? Haven't been able to confirm whether or not they have removed it from the R1S. I see that they've removed it from the newer R1Ts. Thanks. Congrats on your R1S. I have one on order but it won't be until 2024 before I get mine. Hate the wait!
In a future video, could you talk about the wheel and tire options and how they impact the ride, handling, and noise? Great content Scott, thanks for sharing!

@@RivianDad I was curious how the R1S drove in the snow... I imagine it would be good. Wondering if the "All-Terrain" tires are true all season, or if I will need to get new winter tires for my snow trips.

It’s not hard to reach over the tailgate to the third row, so maybe that’s why. But I guess you’re right, it would obviously be easier because you’d be closer.
