3 mins in and amazed. For hobbyist life is family, work, and hobbies. I'm 60 and in my 20s RC planes, ship models, veg and flower garden, lawn and pool. Never had time for bars or weekend beer nights. People always asked me for yard and pool advice. I really wanted to say spend time and effort. I have been watching many channels on N scale layouts plus wooden period warships. True construction. It's time to start both and from the beginning. Thank you
Great layout James. You should be proud of what you've built. I watched all your videos in the past couple of days and really enjoyed watching your progress. You've selected some great products in Kato and Woodland Scenics. Hope you continue to enjoy model railroading. You're just beginning and there is so much more to do. :-)
Congratulations my friend! Your work and passion are quite evident. Looking forward to see how you add on in a few months. LOL. It's an addiction. Respect and Peace to You.
Well James, congratulations on the whole layout! I've watched you from the very start and how you've gone from a baseboard to a complete layout in such a short space of time. You've worked very hard and I can tell from your voice how much you have enjoyed it, and now its time to sit back and admire the work. Its a massive learning curve and well done in picking up the skills. Now the big question -- what next? Regards Steve
Steve, thank you so much for your ongoing support and encouragement- I feel we are kindred spirits! I’m so glad it’s evident how excited I’ve been and still am to have a layout I’ve created with my own effort. What’s next? As many have commented, “a train layout is never done.” So true, but a layout should be enjoyed in all phases of its construction. Now that I feel good about the layout’s progress, I’m gonna enjoy running my trains and learning more about their capabilities. My 19th episode got more views than all my other episodes combined! So I’m glad people online were interested in taking a look at what I’ve accomplished. I do need to focus on other stuff that’s important to me too, so I’ll take a break from regular episodes and post significant updates as the occur! 😁
Looks great first time layout. I am starting a 4x8 first time layout also in N scale. I have watched a lot of Luke Towan videos. (If you do not know who he is, check out his videos, I learned so much from him) Made a few dioramas to get the hang of doing scenery with static grass. Hopefully I will be as successful as you. Right now I'm at the point of figuring out a track plan. That alone is giving me a hard time.
Thanks! I really recommend the SCARM track layout software for track plans. That approach really served me so well throughout the process not just for planning track, but keeping track of feeders.
I see hours and hours of modeling in your future. Soon you will decide that you need to weather your cars and track. Then add signal lighting along the track. Maybe you will layer and blend the grasses and soils effects of your Woodlands Scenics landscape. One day you may wonder where the water goes and put in some culverts or drainage ditches leading off the layout. Who knows you may weather the black top roads and add ballast to the track. Then desiring a bigger Rail Road empire you will build a second connecting module to expand your total layout with a rail yard, industries with sidings, another town, an abandoned mine, an airport and of course a yacht club to show off your hand built sail boat models. Then Rod Sterling walks in and says, “For your Consideration I give you James, a mild mannered man living in Southern California, who is about to discover he has entered the N SCALE ZONE.” Da ta da duh …….. Great layout, I enjoyed watching you build it.
I thought so too, Tony, and I run it that way because it looks cool. But the consist on the Kato packaging shows it facing forward, so when I made the video I kept the consist that way.
That's a lot going on there . Loved the passenger train . Thx for showing the layout . - Ken
Thanks, Ken!
@@JamesTuverson You are Welcome .
Great layout and details; I enjoyed watching the full video! Love the lighting and nighttime run, thank you for sharing!
Thank you Dejan!

Danke schön, Wilfried!
A very nice video and layout. I have plans to expand my own HO scale Kato layout, though I'm somewhat limited in how much space I have.
Thanks for checking it out! Space is always a problem with layouts. We always need MORE
Your layout came out awesome!! That's a lot of work in 6 months.
Thank you! I worked on it EVERY DAY
Very nice. Love the fun vibe it give off. What is that blue steam locomotive? Sorry... just read comments. Thanks for including the info.
Thanks!!

Wow! So much accomplished. Great job. What buildings did you use for your town and do they come pre-lit?
Thanks! All my buildings are from Woodland Scenics, and most of them are pre-lit. A couple were not, and I had to install small LEDs, also from WS.
Awesome layout. Great job! I think I've finally found what I've been looking for! Is there a chance you could share the SCARM files? Thank You!
Thanks, Stu! How would you like me to share that file?
@@JamesTuverson it's not letting me put my email for some reason. can you link it in the description maybe?
done!
@@JamesTuverson Thank you!
Nice layout, but what's with all the lights in the rocks ?
Just looks cool to me

The second loco on the passenger train should be nose to the rear.

very nice setup but you missing people
I know, right? I have a bunch. I’m putting them on a couple a day (SO TINY!) I’ll post again when I’ve populated.
No layout big or small is ever 100% finished never theres always changes or add ons
So true
