    What a stunning layout. So nice to see full length trains being pulled over a respectable distance with great scenery, track work and impressive urban and industrial scenes. I admire and respect your patience and foresight in planning, laying out and building such an impressive layout, then making and mounting all those trees. 12,000 items of rolling stock in your basement - what a dream!!

  • @peopleslayer12333
    @peopleslayer12333 3 года назад +4

    If all this was bought separately it has to be close to a million dollars... 16k cars plus 1400 locomotives....an average of 40 dollars per a car would net around 640k alone. not uncluding the layout, locomotives and everything else plus time that was spent. Sir Todd you have done something many people can only dream of as well as fulfilled many people's childhood dreams. Amazing.

      @micnorton9487 I'm honestly not trying to be a downer. However, it happens all the time. The N scale club I belong to gets calls and emails from family about their dad's or grandfather's collection. Wanting to know how much it is worth or if they can just donate it. It is sad to see someone's hobby and life's work just tossed off.

      Just like any other world u get passionate about, you see others that are so much better in the industry. I got Rubbermaid containers filled with n scale buildings, trains, and shrubs from the early 90s. Should love to donate them. Train set layouts is an amazing art. It pissed my dad off that I was building realistic models instead of playing ball. Do what your good at. I eventually changed for playing drums. I respect artists that put together super realistic layouts. Blows my mind how detailed they can be

    Do you guys who are watching this know how difficult it is to build tack work that will allow you to pull 100+ cars in a single train.. Plus the work that goes into each individual car. They must be the same weight. Pay attention to other layouts that you see on you-tube. You will notice that they will be pulling from 10-25 cars. That's because it takes such precision to do what Todd has done here. It's simply amazing what he has done. GREAT job Todd.

    Hi Roy Nice video of Todd's very very large n-scale layout and collection.I think that this might be the largest n-scale layout in the USA and also the largest collection. Todd is a great model rail railroader and will help other model railroaders out. Some of the club members and aSue and I are planning a trip to see Todd's layout sometime in November. Well this is all for now. Garyp

    Roy, I've sat here half the morning " gob smacked". If I had this much space for a model railway i wouldn't know where to start or what to do really. Thank you for this, I'm off to be amazed once more. Cheers, Chris Perry.

    Hey Roy. You need to see more layouts. I love the shear wall at 3:17, 400 feet high at 80 degrees, nice.

      Tragic part is, when he passes away something like this simply can't be moved to another location... I have a friend who did a large HO layout in 2 mobile homes put together with the wall opened between them, his wife is in her 80s and he is not going to be around much longer, they live on a 10 acre place in Oregon and I have a pretty good idea what will happen to it all when he passes away, an 80+ year old woman is not going to stay there by herself, she'll sell the train stuff all off in bits and pieces and the layout itself which is wood, plywood, plaster etc will probably wind up in the dumpster

    Todd exploits the benefits of N scale remarkably. I was just scrolling through the comments and thought Jeff Brink's comment was hilarious.
    A somewhat long winded comment but on another matter, a year or so ago I was wondering about HO catenary. I found this layout that Todd's layout reminded me of except it is in HO (and has catenary). They mount a camera on the loco and take the viewer on a trip around the layout. Like Todd's layout, the owner of this particular HO layout (link below) exploits the benefits of that scale to the fullest. Both layouts are remarkable for their respective scales. I love long drags as I can see Todd does and the thought of routinely running multiple 100-200 car trains is almost beyond my capacity to comprehend.
    I digress, in the HO catenary vid I find the remarkable aspect of that particular layout is that it captures the mood and lighting change you get as you transit industrial areas, railroad yards, suburbs and then out into the country as you do when travelling on a train yourself. I don't know if this is accidental or deliberate but it occurs and is another remarkable layout. The heavy weathering of everything is evocative of the era he's modelling. Our train comes under the wires after about 3 mins. I sometimes wonder how people have such eyes for minutiae but boy I'm sure glad they do.
    BTW, I really do look forward to your vids Roy and as usual this was a ripper. Sorry if you've seen this vid in the link or visited the layout but there may be some visiting here that haven't watched it and might like to see it - after all, it's a rival scale.
    Watching all these model railroad vids caused me to find you and your's is the only model railroad channel I subscribe to (so don't harsh on me for posting a link to a rival scale - not that you would be)
    Enjoy:

    I grew up in Enola and presently live in Harrisburg. I remember when the Enola yards were that full. Now the busy yards are the intermodal yards in Harrisburg and Rutherford.
