  • CANON PRO 10 and PRO 100 Cartridge Best Practices and Updates
    It seems that the concept of Cart Best Practices is a hard to understand and grasp.
    But it's actually simple.
    Any way you can reduce the Ink Purges that tale place after NAY single or multiple cart exchange on your CANON PRO-100 or PRO-10 will prevent you from wasting a ton of unnecessary ink which you will then be able to use for Printing Great Photos and Not Filling UP your Waste Ink Pads.
    What confuses many is that there are a couple of options for each type of Cartridge. and Printer model.
    I strongly suggest that you obtain a second set of whatever Cartridge model your printer uses on EBAY and have that set you get ready and waiting.
    That means Modified, reset and pre filled with your choice of third party inks.
    Once you have that second set you will be able to achieve the most efficient way to refill your PRO-100 and PRO-10 carts and minimize your ink purge cycles to a bare minimum!
    That is the goal here.

    Thank you for your work. I got my Canon PRO 10 a few months ago and bought another set of CANON PRO 10 carts. I got the Precision Color inks replacement inks with the resetter. I have had to replace the original PK the other day and set in the new CANON cart. It looks like it’s time to get ready to start using the PCInks.
    2 Questions..
    1) Do I have to FLUSH/CLEAN the original Canon Ink carts out before I refill them with PCInks?
    2) Do I have to completely collapse the ink cart bladder before I refill with PCInks?
    Thank you for your time

    Hello Jose, your videos about the Canon Pro 10 are outstanding. I am an amateur photographer and make prints only occasionally - a couple of prints every 3 months or so. I have a Pro 10 and have 2 sets of OEM cartridges which I refill when needed. There is a long period of time between printing (like 3 months) sessions. Should I just turn off the printer and allow a full purge or cleaning cycle to take place when I power up, or should I leave the printer on all the time and keep swapping the cartridge sets whenever one cartidge gets empty due to the 60-hour cleaning cycles?

    Should I flush my empty carts as I wait for a full set to drain? I have almost a full set collected, the empty ones have been stored for a few months now, with the orange caps on of course, should i flush them?

    I need to get a second set for my Canon PRO-100. I noticed that when you're changing out cartridges, after certain amount of time, the print head will go back to it's resting position and you can't access the cartridges till you close the lid and open it again. That's the only time I unplug the printer so I can finish refilling ink in all the cartridges.

    Jose, I am printing some fantasy art cards from pdf files via canon app on ipad. They are coming out too dark on pro 100. This is oem ink, maybe the third time I printed anything. (an actual photo 8x11 came out fine) Is there a way to adjust brightness on a pdf file? I see nothing in the app or ipad that will adjust these images. I printed these same images at staples on laser paper and they were fine.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 лет назад

      A PDF is NOT color managed. They print dark because....they are dark. The PRO100 Pretty much prints what it gets. Your printing process is definitelybnot color managed in any form. You need to.print from an editing application and a computer whose monitor is calibrated. When you say on actual photo 8x11 it looked fine and then you say its too dark. What's is what here?

    • @shatnershairpiece
      @shatnershairpiece 5 лет назад

      Jose Rodriguez the exact same pdf looks fine when printed at staples on laser printer. It was bright. Not on the canon pro 100. Staples did not do any adjustments on the pdf. The 8x11 photo (first print off the canon) was also printed direct off the ipad with canon app, and looked fine compared to original. I am hoping to find a way to edit a pdf file. I think adobe acrobat might be the only way. It was the pdf that was too dark.

    Jose, many thanks for all these videos. I'm getting closer to purchasing my first Canon printer. (Have always used Epson pigment ink printers previously). For the last few years, I've been outsourcing my printing, but am missing the hands on possibilities for more custom work. I'm waffling between the Pro 100, which is looking increasingly like what I'll invest in. Is the printer next to you a Pro I00? (If so, it looks bigger than I'd imagined.)

    Thank you for another informative video in regards to swapping out cartridges and how to refill with 3rd party inks in the original cartridges. I’m blessed to have received my canon pro-10 printer with all the original cartridges intact and I immediately ordered a replacement OEM set so now I already have the 2 sets needed to perform the replacements as you’ve described to avoid purges between every cartridge running out individually. So, I guess all I need now is the 3rd party ink refill kit from precision ink along with a scale and I should be good to go. Am I missing anything? Thank you so much for the information and the money I’ll be saving from your suggestions.

    Mr. Jose Rodriguez
    I am using Precision Inc. refillable cartridges in my Epson Photo R2400. My question is, if I want to use two sets of cartridges as recommended how do I store the set not in use to prevent the open bottom ink feed hole from drying out. Or, is that not a problem ?

    Hi Jose, first of all, really useful information in the video! For the Pro-10, I was wondering if you could simply take the original 10 cartridges and refill them all with Precision Color inks the moment one of them goes empty. Is there a reason you recommend having a complete second set of 10 cartridges rather than just topping off the first set every time? Even with 2 sets, aren't we topping off the set we pulled out of the printer anyways?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  4 года назад +5

      Unless you're working at Super speeds there's no way that you can drip fill all ten Pro 10 cartridges before the printhead decides to move to the right again. There's only so much time you get to complete any cartridge exchange. It's like 5-6 minutes total time. The idea of exchanging a complete set of cartridges with a second already pre-filled and reset is to avoid the global purge that take place after each cartridge exchange whether it is one or 10 exchanged so imagine if you were doing one at a time that will be 10 complete Global Purge Cycles after each single cartridge exchange three or all ten. So what I have come up with is to always have two complete sets available. That way when one cartridge reaches empty you remove that complete set and quickly install the spare full refill set and then at your leisure time reset in top off all of the set that you removed. It's not necessary to do this but it just saves a ton of time and aggravation and more importantly, a ton of ink wasted performing all those purge cycles.

    Great video Jose, I love your chanel! I have one pretty amateur question which many people seem to have, what is wrong with the replacement refillable CLI-42 cartridges, a full set is usually around $40 on ebay. I heard the sponges in them aren't as good as the original cartridges, but I wonder what can go wrong with using these, are they safe to use at all?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 лет назад +1

      They are simply inferior. Don't believe what you hear. The sponges are NOT the same and can not provide the ink flow necessary to keep CANON Print head happy. With the same $40 you can hunt for an empty set of OEM Carts on EBAY and you will be 1000% better off and your Printer will appreciate it.

    Hello sir, your videos are very helpful thank you very much. I am planning to buy pro 100 or pro 10. But the problem is over here in india the option of refilling is not there so I am planning to buy canon genuine catrige only. But the doubt is if any one color will be empty and I am changing it then also both the printers will do purge cycle or it only does with refining. Thank you.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 лет назад +1

      Yes. All these printers must run a purge cycle upon every single of multiple cart change. They also run systematic cleaning cycles as you print. The Pro100 is after each 120 hours and the Pro10 is after 60 hours.

    Jose per your calculations have you been able to come up with a ball park figure of how much time you may add to your say a Pro-10 and Pro-100 by saving the waste pads by changing the whole entire 10 (or 8 Pro-100) carts when one goes empty?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 лет назад

      Only taking into account the Ink Purges that take place when a cart is exchanged ( NOT OTHER CLEANING CYCLES that take place as part of the CANON auto maintenance ) Say if two months you exchange a set of cart due to one being low ( Pro-100 ) or one being empty ( Pro-10 ) That would be one Purge Cycle as opposed to maybe 8 or 10 when done one at a time. There is no exact factor here it is depending on the images and frequency of printing.

  • @cindybnyc8587
    @cindybnyc8587 5 лет назад +1

    Jose, would it be possible to use your 2-full-sets of cartridges method with the OEM inks? I guess you would have to extract ink from new cartridges and top off each of the not empty colors and reset the chips. Would that be possible, and would that save the OEM ink from extra purges?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 лет назад

      Where would extract ink from again? New carts? The same as you would use on the printer anyway?? This method really only works on the PRO100-10 and third party inks. I can come up with any sources of bulk ink for the PRO100. I buy huge carts for the PRO1000 and use some of the colors on the PRO10.

    • @cindybnyc8587
      @cindybnyc8587 5 лет назад

      OK. I'm sure you're right. I just thought your idea about preventing a purge after replacing each cartridge was such a good one, but I guess there's no way around it with the OEM inks. Thank you so much for getting back to me! You are infinitely generous and I appreciate it so much.

    • @SimplyNobel
      @SimplyNobel 5 лет назад

      Thanks for asking this Cindy. I also have been getting confused about how to do this with just OEM ink cartridges (I considered using third party inks by Pecision Colors but I am pretty sure that option is only valid for people living in the US).
      I think sticking with just OEM will give us much longer colour results overall. What do you think Jose? How many years at a guess will the Precision Colors plus the the OEM yellow remain fresh if well protected from light? Compared to OEM...I assume OEM will last decades longer? Although you did say that no matter what Canon says they will fade sooner than 100years. But how much sooner? I guess time will tell :). So long as I can promise 10+ years of vibrant print colours I'm happy!
      I still need to find your video where you were going to test the purge cycle when not printing for 20 days. I have heard that there are less cleaning cycles with the 100s then the 10 which is good to know. I won't be printing much for a while yet so I think it will be more economical for me to start selling prints via a print company first and have my 100s on standby until I know for sure that my art work will sell :).
      I hope one day the Canon will be more eco friendly and supply reduced refill ink for these printers but that will be the day! Shame I need to waste so much ink every time I change just one cartridge...especially if another gets changed a very short time later as you say! If one is empty and one is low...it still works out better to change each one separately eh...yes it may mean that it purges twice in 2 days but you prob waste a lot more by throwing out a low cartridge!?
      Sorry that this message is so long. It is 1am and I'm super sleepy but I tried my best to still make this coherent 😋.
      Thank you for all your helpful info Jose. The best lesson learnt was to avoid ever using any third party inks with this printer! (Aside from PrecisionColors).

    Jose - I have a Canon PIXMA pRO-10 Printer. I have been using Canon Ink Cartridges. Last week I was printing and the Cyan Cartridge was empty. I changed the Cyan Cartridge and noticed the Matt Black was nearly empty, so I changed it out as well. When I closed the printer cover and checked for the printer to recognize the new cartridges, the printer acknowledged the Cyan, but not the Matt Black. I have replaced the Matt Black with two more new Cannon Cartridges. The printer still does not recognize the Matt Black cartridge.
    I have talked with Canon Technical Support without success. Any idea as to what I might have done to the printer? I was also wondering if using a Chip Resetter on the Matt Black Cartridge would help.
    Really enjoy your videos.

    Jose, I just bought the Pro-100 and watched your video. So I go on Ebay and look at a set of OEM carts. Do I rinse out all the carts, even the yellow since its an OEM?. Then as my installed OEM Printer carts run out I just install my entire new Ebay OEM set for the Printer set? I won't have to buy any generic carts will I since both sets are OEM. Will I need to even buy a resetter?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 лет назад

      You will need a refill kit from www.precisioncolors.comOk. You modify all the EBay Cli-42 empties.
      You reset them.
      You will fill them.
      All except the yellow.
      You either flush it and dry it as I show in my video OR use the replacement pre modes and flushed cart provided for you in the refill kit and transfer the oem yellow chip to it. cart
      Once have two complete sets of modified, reset and filled carts you witch complete sets as ANY one cart from there the low ink level warning. Remove it and installs the second set. Reset and top off the one you removed, and place it on stand by till you get the next LOW ink warning and so on and so on.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 лет назад

      No. With the PRO-1000 you must exchange one cart at a time. The auto reset chips need to reach empty conditions before they will reset to full.
      The methods I suggest are ONLY for the PRO-100 and PRO-10 because those cart chips can be reset. Not so with the PRO-1000. So you have to exchange one at a time as each reach empty. There is a user replaceable waste ink cart so ink purges are not that much of an issue as with the 100 / 10 which do not have waste ink carts.

    • @photozen8398

    As a UK resident I will look at OctoInkjet's starter refill kit once I've gone through two sets of OEM carts. I assume if anybody is going to go the refill route then once the first OEM cart shows low pop it out and replace immediately with one of the second set of OEM carts. Then proceed to top up the original ( now low ) OEM cart having reset the chip before hand. Do this with each of the original OEM carts as they show low. By the time all of your original OEM carts have been replaced by your second set of OEM carts, you'd likely have all of your original set of OEM carts reset and refilled and away you go 😊 Do the same with the second set of OEM carts and by the time they all run low and get refilled you have got to the point where you have two sets of OEM carts running refillable inks 😎

    Hello Jose,
    I have been printing on my pro 100 for a few weeks now and it looks amazing. I went to print this morning and the prints have a horrible blue and green tint. There is magenta where it should not be and it just looks awful. The printer was working the night before however. It is not my monitor that is the problem since I have the same prints from before this problem started which look fine. I was on the phone with canon for 2 hours talking to 3 people and nobody could fix it. They want me to go to a certified repair place but it is 1 hour away. I just though I would ask you if you know what could be causing this and how to fix it? I am using all oem starter inks and several different papers which all end up looking horrible. The test print and nozzle check look fine according to canon support but the prints come out with the wrong colors. Do you know what might be causing this? I really don’t want to drive 2 hours to get it fixed and end up leaving it there for about a month because the repair person is going on vacation. I have already done a cleaning and deep cleaning. Thanks for any advice.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 лет назад

      Are you sure your Nozzle check is perfect? Are you using OEM inks or are you refilling your carts? Trying to learn as much as I can about before I jump into printing at home.
    I've gone back and forth on it. Going go with the Pixma Pro-10. There are cons to dye based inks than my mind won't let go of so no Pro-100 for me. Probably looking at spending $1000 or close to that. Printer, monitor calibrator, spare carts, refill inks, chip resetter. Out of all that papers will be the cheapest thing to get because I can order all I need through my job at a discount.
    I thought it was a bit much, but it seems crazy to not refill. Every time a color is replaced all the remaining carts lose volume because of the purge nonsense? Then after a time I just have empty cartridges just collecting dust?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 лет назад

      The PRO-10 is a perfect printer for refilling with top quality inks such as the Signature Edition plus OEM Red from PC.
      If you follow my cart doctrine you will minimize these ink losses. Use the inks to produce prints I always say!

      Yes in illustrator and It is done by sublimation transfer to the substrate.

    Jose, sir, after watching your videos I committed to a PRO-10, even though here you have to pay proud 600 € for it, and Precision Colours do not ship to my country. I get great results, I enjoy various paper types and textures, it is a pleasure. I know how to avoid ink purges by resetting, filling up and replacing all cartridges at once (I use original ink from original cartridges). THANK YOU.
    There is one thing I am unhappy about. I print every other day, well within the 60hrs period and I never print borderless. The printer is always on and connected to a high quality UPS. But still, before and after printing, the printer does a lot of tiddly-fiddly, sometimes more, sometimes less, and the sponge inside is soaked with ink (outside the width of the paper). Could you please comment, is this normal or am I doing something wrong ? When I say tiddly-fiddly I mean a different behaviour from the "ink maintenance", that has a distinctly different sound and movement. I would appreciate any insights. I apologise if I missed this mentioned somewhere in your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

      It is not doing a cleaning cycle. It may sound like it but it is emptying the purge pad of any build up of ink and that required the pump to suck it out which sounds like it is doing a cleaning. The CANON printers basically automatically do what WE should be doing just about every time we print an image. And that is why unlike EPSON they always print perfectly. What country do you live in? PC will ship internationally but there is a limit in total weight.

      Jose, you are great, thank you for your fast reply. I feel better now. Thank you for the info that PC now ships internationally. When I looked some time ago they had no shipping option for Europe (I am in Slovakia).
      May I ask something else please: If one prints regularly but only on papers that go into the "Rear" tray, that means using only Photo Black, am I right. The Matte Black gets used only on "Art" papers that go into the "Manual" tray (with the wide margins), is that so ? So the Matte Black does not get flushed even if you print within the 60hrs. period ? So would it be correct to use the "Manual" tray regularly either for matte prints or at least for printing a small black rectangle or something like that when you do not need to print matte prints for a period of time ? To keep the Matte Black moving ? Or am I worrying too much and the printer takes care of it, hopefully without initiating an unnecessarily large cleaning cycle for all the other cartridges as well. What do you think ? Thanks, brgds.

      The shipping options are found when you begin to check out.
      A nozzle Check will print with BOTH Black. And that should count as a print as far as I know.

    Jose, Happy Easter !!! I am one of those people who currently only uses OEM ink on my PRO 100. Would you recommend replacing all cartridges when one goes low and then saving the ones who still have ink in them to install next time a cartridge goes low to reduce the number of purge cycles?? I understand your recommendation for refilled carts but would this still apply if I am only using OEM purchased cartridges and not doing any refilling ?? Thank you

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 лет назад

      Sorry but I don't see how you could do that with OEM carts.
      Ultimately you end up replacing all the carts as each reaches empty. Even with multiple sets.
      One at a time would be about the same and if yoiu will not ever refill, then use them till empty and easily sell them as a full set of empties for about $30-40 a set on ebay or on my Facebook group to our PRO-100 refilling members.

    hello hows the CISS on pixma pro-100?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 лет назад

      Well, there is not any CISS that I would recommend for the PRO-100 or ANY other Canon Photo Printer. Refilling the original carts is the best and only option I would consider.

      That is the 64 million $ question!

    • @Whatisright

      My guess it's that most people don't know to look into it. It's like shooting, no one understands they can shoot for cents if they reload their own ammo. It doesn't cross their minds until someone mentions it.

    At 18:21 "Canon Pro-10 (and Pro100 and Pro1) di not have user replaceble waste ink cartridges .." So ..:
    - After how many cycles the waste tank will get full?
    - when full, will the printer stop printing, alert the user, will print bad without alerting the user or what?
    - how this must be fixed? Send the printer to Canon assistance?
    Thank youuuuuuu, Andrea from Italy 😁

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  4 года назад

      Yes all of those printers you mention have internal waste ink pads but the problem is no one really knows how much ink does it take to reach the saturation level and yes you will have to take them in to be repaired. When they reach saturation level the printer will stop working and you will see an error that some parts have to reach the end of their life Span.
