    It was really neat to see how this kit works. I was lazy and bought the kit that came with the cartridges already altered, haha. I also got the bottle lids that have a built in needle so there is no need for a syringe. My cartridges are probably due to be replaced since I've had mine for 4 years now, so this was good advice on how to remove those balls!

    Great video. Will need to check out more of your stuff. A few comments to help. No need for the drill in fact I’d really recommend against it. It simply takes a few turns of the drill bit by hand. With the drill you easily risk damaging the cartridge. The problem is if you don’t drill it really straight then you risk not having a tight seal and the ink may leak. For the syringe, you should use rubbing alcohol to clean it before touching any ink. It’s possible to contaminate ink which can then create mold spores or other contaminates that can wreak havoc on your printer.
    Thank you for the great video :)

    Great video! I know nothing at all about printers or printer ink, so this was cool to see! Also, I enjoyed watching this because you wern't positive what to do but, you were figuring it out. It made me feel like you were learning about this at the same time as your audience which created a neat sense of community. :)

    Ooh thank you for doing this video!! I had been considering getting this printer as well and have seen Baylee refill hers, but I couldn't wrap my head around how it all worked because I've always used HP printers that have the basic cartridges. Now I feel more confident that I could do this if I ever get this printer!

    Very informative! I had a cheaper version Canon Pixma, and they are great printers. I too wanted to refill my own inks, but was too complicated. So this clears things up... thank you. They are figity printers with their constant checking and rechecking of inner movement, but they do their job well.

    Did you see Baylee's vlog from yesterday? She was talking about the sponge in these cartridges, once she reset the cartridge afte the side part ran out of ink she got another 10 photo quality prints out of the printer just from the sponge. That's a lot of ink that the printer won't let you use normally!

    • @ArtalaCarte
      @ArtalaCarte  6 лет назад +1

      I saw that! Lol! I know the sponges hold a lot more ink in them after the ink well is gone and I have printed several more prints after the warning too. Another video said that because the printer uses heat or something and if you run out, it can burn your print heads so they recommend keeping the wells filled.

    • @ArtalaCarte
      @ArtalaCarte  6 лет назад +1

      Not that would seal. How the ball sit in there, opening is wider at the top. You use the drill to get rid of the ledge the ball sits on.

  • @pai009
    @pai009 6 лет назад +2

    that did look a bit troublesome, though while you were taking out the plastic bead thing I actually though of something that might work instead of using the pliers and risking cutting open the eye of the screw eye. Instead of using the pliers to pull out the bead and risk cutting open the top of the screw eye with the part that's for cutting weirs or something, you could loop a piece of ribbon through the eye and tie it off so it doesn't come out while you tug on it to give you leverage to get that bead out. Just so you know, when I say screw eye, I mean the thing you screwed into the bead in the ink cartridge to get it out after you put the hole in it with the tack. This might be a good to do for the next time you change the ink in one of the other cartridges.

    Your so cute and so funny. I refill my Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II using PC ink also, they make a great product. There is a bit of a learnig and research though your video no doubt helps others learning how to refill their own carts. Good stuff :) Also if you find a smaller screw and are neat making the hole you can re-use the plastic ball instead of drilling and plugging, works great.

    Hi, thanks for video, very helpful. Only problem is when you drill into the cartridges... Doesn't that drop plastic, nylon shavings into the cartridge? I would imagine that would be a problem, maybe clogging, impeding ink flow?

    Very scary video. But I have much time watching Jose Rodriguez videos on refilling. If you or your followers are interested in refilling without drama I recommend them. And, by the way, find that empty cartridge that came with your kit as it is important when you get to the yellow ink: you do not want to mix OEM yellow ink with any other yellow ink as really bad things will happen. See Jose’s videos.

    I never thought I would be laughing at a cartridge refill video, but here I am laughing so hard. Pro tip, look for the Pro-10 on sale around Christmas. After rebate you can often get them for $150 and the cartridges are MUCH EASIER to refill. Literally reset the chip and then drip the ink onto the bottom of the cartridge and you're done. Oh, BTW also sign up for camera store email lists and other photography websites that will alert you when special deals on the Pro-100 will go on sale. One can often get the Pro-100 after rebate for all of $60-$80 so you have a cheap set of ink and spare parts if you need.

      Yes you need to clean them. Especially the yellow cartridge because if it’s not perfectly clean the canon yellow ink will turn into a gel. Most people just buy an empty yellow cartridge to not risk the jelling.

    My response to pretty much disposable ink jet printers, is that I have an inkjet, and I colour it in myself lol.
    In your situation, it's best to go the way you are. For me, it would be cheaper to just buy a new printer, than buying more ink.
    Also, I'M HOME NOW! YAY no more hospital, unless I relapse. Which is pretty likely, but I know what to look for now, and it will never get as bad as it was when I nearlu died.

    Thanks for the video! lol, i received a pretty generous donation from a friend, a canon pixma pro 100 printer, that he had inherited and was just sitting around the house. And while I believe it all works I can't afford the real ink atm and didn't want to cough up $120 on something that may or may not work (pretty sure it does, I got the drivers installed and it powers on and everything)
    Not really sure this would save me money (as i would have to buy a power drill lol) maybe i can borrow one from a friend. Anyways was fascinating to watch.

Precision inks gouges prices for things like the Sringes and chip resetter and things like the bottle top syringe.. they should be included for free IMO - as I can go to the farm supply store and get a 10 pack of larger more robust syringes for $5.00

    I don't know if you are still refilling cartridges, but if you are... you should swap out your cartridges all 8 at a time. Every time you change a single cartridge your printer purges ALL 8 so it's very wasteful. Buy a complete set so you will always have a full set ready to go, and one more thing, don't refill the Canon yellow with Precision Inks yellow, it will turn to jell :(

    Ok... you did a fine job with this = but there a few items to keep in mind in order to not waste further ink... I highly recommend checking out Jose Rodriguez on RUclips... he is the Don of printers, printing and ink refilling. You should always change ALL ink carts at the same time to avoid wasting ink as the machine will run a purge and clean EVERY time you take out a cart and put one in. So, if you take out red to refill it, don't just stick in back in after filling... take ALL carts out, top em all up, and then stick them back in for a single purge/clean cycle. Also, be careful when drilling those carts... too big a whole and you'll have ink spillage all over the print head as air will get in around the rubber plug. Finally - I recommend setting an auto print schedule to avoid the print heads sitting too long and drying out.... QImage does this automatically but cost too much money.. unless you use it for printing too!
