I don't think many artist realize how many cool and cheap supplies for shipping and displaying your art you can get from Dollar Tree. I love that store!
Seriously, dollar tree has saved me a TON of $$ in packaging/shipping supplies!! Unless you're buying in bulk from someplace online, it's the way to go for non standard sized/ prints, etc! Thanks some more for solid info!!
The $150 cost (with free paper) for the Pixma Pro-100 that you mention is a thing of the past. It's now $599 from Best Buy (with NO pager) and $899 from Amazon. That's more than a little over my budget.
How do you decide to price your art, especially for someone who is just starting out? And do you or would you sell the original and how would you price that?
Adrian Ramos since all the work was created digitally, I don’t sell an original. I priced my work based on what I saw other prints like mine were selling for. But I would say the greater factor in selling art is find a market that wants your niche art. My comic art prints and my trailblazer prints sell a thousand times better than my original concepts.
That Lobo/Harley is awesome!! And the info is super useful, well done!! I have a ton of really nice paper(Legion Moab Entrada< actual 100%rag!!) and have been trying to figure out what I should do with it! I don't have a printer that wouldn't just waste it so I 'll either be listing it on ebay or Mercari or I'll just draw/paint on it. You have some beautiful work, man!!
Great video Trav. .. and terrific artwork. Two questions: you got a great deal on the printer , I'm seeing them new for about $350. Did youbgonfor used? Also would like to see specifics about packing... any protective sheets like glassine or kraft paper? Thank you for doing this.
This review was exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you so much for making this video. Also, thank you for the shipping tip with the dollar tree boxes! I mainly print on 8.5 x 11 and smaller - and usually do around 50-60 prints in one go, sometimes more depending on demand. Do you think the ink will last a decent amount of time? Also, that mail in rebate is a steal.
Thank you so much for this video ! I wasn't sure about printing myself my art at home but now I have no doubt, I need a better printer to do it myself ! ^^
Very informative. I like your shipping solution. I am selling prints of watercolors and use a local printer shop as the images look much better from their scan than photos I take. I got an epson this winter and then returned it unsatisfied as it wasted so much of my time setting up and I didn't even like the results. But if I get a printer again I’ll get that cannon.
Thanks bro Very helpful. I'm start doing this by the beginning of next year I have to buy and study some more but I'm also writing a book but this is a fun extra hobby to do while in the office aka my bedroom lol I just want to find more ways to make some extra income x)
Awesome vid. I've been shopping around for a good large format printer to do prints at home and I've been trying to find other videos to see if the Canon Pixma Pro 100 is a good deal. I also like your packaging process. Thx for the info.
Very good information, can you do a video further elaborating on the details of utilizing square space and steps you used to set up your store. also for larger print sizes and larger volume orders, what vendors you use cost estimates and the process, thanks
Thank you very much for your wonderful support and information. I would like to know, how do you copy art and transfer to your printer? I have been searching for a art printer, that's able to copy my art and print.
I use the canon premium Matte for my photography and LOVE it! Great color reproduction. Would you happen to know if it is archival? I can't find any info on it.
Hi Trav, thanks for that excellent video. I had been looking for info on how to get into selling prints of my acrylic, charcoal, pencil work. One question, though - how do you sign your prints? I have read that one should sign in pencil as inks might fade over time. What is your take on this?
Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences. I am brand new to the digital art world, can you tell me which program you use to digitally produce your prints? Thx & your artwork is fantastic by the way!
Thank you for this video! We purchased a canon-pro 200 after watching your video to print from home but have had problems with getting the exact look that we want. My husband is an artist and we draw and color through clip studio. I have been printing on 11 x 17 luster/satin photo paper but we think its too shinny. But I was afraid the matte would be to dull. Before we purchased the printer, we printed at office max on glossy cardstock which my husband prefers. The colors seem to pop more. His posters are normally 11 x 17, can you provide any information on how we could use the 13 x 19 canon paper and cut it down. For some reason Canon doesn't sell any 11 x 17 sizes!!! Thanks for any help you can provide
Thank you very much for all the useful information! I used to post prints via tube, but I have to roll 300gms paper which is really difficult sometimes, now I might consider the flat package. Just wondering do you ever had the issue that the post has been bent during posting? I once got my purchase thrown over garden fens by delivery people ( I bought a ceramics a China kettle, it miraclly survived), so I kinda scared that the flat package might not be able to protect the prints.
Wanting to print from digital drawings, that is, drawings on iPad via pencil and charcoal app tools. I’m thinking luster or gloss would not look good, because that paper is more for a photo and poster look.
Hey awesome video! very informative! how do you obtain license for a picture of Damien Lillard or get around copyright? Or is there copyright of it? I am interested in getting into sports art.
Canon pro 100 is a dye ink printer. Meaning the prints will fade away in a few years at most if exposed to a sunlight or humidity. That's why people are using pigment inks for art print for sale. Which in Canon world means Canon Pro 10 or Canon Pro 1000. Or SureColor p400, p600 or p800 if you prefer Epson.
Exactly! So many people buying prints offline and they have no clue that they may as well buy a photocopy at Staples (many selling them are equally clueless).
I'm trying to start selling my own prints soon to get more money to spend on loved ones for Christmas. What I'm thinking of doing is making a wooden frame for the top and bottom that the purchaser can use to hang up prints more easily. But the only issue I'm having currently is trying to figure out how to find the right paper type. I conflicted between going for rolling it up or keeping it upright with a cardboard box to keep it safe. (Along with a plastic protective sheet with cute lil extra stuff to thank them for buying my art.) The kind of paper I'm going for is kind of like A1 blueback paper or maybe Red River Paper? The more cheaper alternative is getting cardstock paper from Walmart. What do you suggest for someone who doesn't have a lot of money?
great video, thank you! Ps: do you know perhaps the name of that "extension" for the camera you have attached by your desk and where did you get it? thank you so much, best Agata
Great info! Questioin for you. I've heard for prints it's best to have it on CMYK mode. I see that you have it on RGB mode. Which is what I use as well...when I try to switch it over to CMYK it loses some of it's vibrancyy and luster? Do you have any issues like that?
Thanks for the helpful info.. what kinda paper would be best for alcohol markers? I’m trying to pull work offline to print. Just don’t know what paper would work
How many cat hair jams do you get and have to shut down to blow it out?? 🤣 Also, why is this sitting on the floor?? Not hating...just being silly. Prints look neat AF! Good tips here...thanks for video!
Ok-ok: great info! Question: This setup is perfect for someone who does everything digital. I create paintings and I want to reproduce my own prints up to about 18x24". Any suggestions as to how to resolve my scan issue? Bc other than pay someone else to scan them, I've got nothing lol... It would seem that I may just have to absorb that cost into reproduction costs but I would love to be able to scan my own... However... It would have to be a flat scanner as I paint on canvas that is typically 5/8" thick. Any ideas? :) Thanks!!
Great insight! Appreciate you sharing. I am trying to something similar with my artwork and I've run into so many issues from cost, to getting the prints done, to actually reaching my audience to make a sale. Just curious if it's all been worth it so far for you? Are you making a living off of this or is this just a small side income for you? Thanks again for sharing.
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to use this printer to get the best possible result. I saw on the video that you let the printer manage colors and I have seen another video that advises to let photoshop manage colors...have you experimented with that? Would you care to share if yes? Thanks in adavance. Cheers!
Thanks. I am looking at printers and that looks perfect. One question. Does it come with the cat? I got a dog and I'm not sure he would be happy about that. 😊👍
when you package the print in the plastic sleeve, do you put a cardboard instide on the backside of the print for added security or just the print in the plastic sleeve?
Hello!! thankyou so much for this video :) it was very helpful! I clicked on the link and tried to look for the mail in rebate but it says he printer is discontinued on there. Do you happen to know of any other deals on this printer? -Lisa
Los papeles fine art para impresión giclee son compatibles con esa impresora? Cuál es el grosor máximo de papel que soporta? Are fine art papers for giclee printing compatible with this printer? What is the maximum paper thickness supported?
You're underselling yourself on your pricing. I'm pretty sure you're spending a good deal of time on each one of these, but either way, people are willing to spend much more on art they enjoy. Go visit some art shows to get a feel for what other artists are charging for similar work (Hint: multiples more).
Not really. This is a basic print that will fade out of existence in a few years. Valuable art prints are printed on archival level and are way more expensive to manufacture, hence the higher prices other artists are charging. They also have limited runs, are signed by the artist etc. to add even more value.
Hey Trav, I want to be able to Print my Digital Art Prints as well. I have a Few Question. 1.) I use a iPad Pro 12.9” and Apple Pencil 2 in the Program Procreate. ( I know you are familiar with this Program.) 2.) All My Art is on this iPad Pro, I do Not Have a Computer or Laptop. I use the iPad Pro, to do anything needed. 3.) Can I get my Art Work From my iPad Pro to a Printer without having to Spend money buying a Computer Plus having to buy the Printer as well.? 4.) I Wld like to just buy a Printer that I can Print from that will Connect to iPad For Prints. Is this Possible.? If so what wld I need to look for.? 5.) I have looked at the Cannon Pixma Pro 200. But Cldnt really tell if it did that.? I know you own the 100 Thank you for any Advice or tips. An as Always Great Work, I Appreciate what you Share. Wishing you and your Family a Happy New Year.!
Love how the cat is just cillin in the back
yep that's Yuki. She kept wanting to lay on the prints that were in my desk.
I thought the cat was dead, lol!
cut person spotted
I like how you left a cat's corpse behind the printer
Very informative. Thanks for taking the time out to make the video and thanks to your wife to make time to shoot the video.
No problem and glad you found it useful.
