- An earlier film of Lo Lieh using The Iron Palm technique to devastate his opponent! A Shaw Brothers classic!
King Boxer - (1972)
Nobody does the kung-fu movies like the Shaw Brothers. I love kung-fu movies.
1972...Pontiac Michigan,..the State theater....THIS was the start of the kung fu craze..back in the day. Eye gouging...betrayal...great fight techniques. This was the holy grail of my Shaw Bros fetish. Brings back fond memories and total excitment....Kudos!!....Also, nothing like the "Ironside" theme mix....so Iconic.
That red glow effect on his hands is simple but superb
This was the film that opened the doors to Kung Fu films in America! In 1972 I watched it under the title The Invincible Boxer. I was 12 and my mind was blown away by this exotic film.
I HEARD THE SAME THING BY GENE SISKEL AND ROGER EBERT THEY REVIEWED THE MOVIE I SAW AT THE DRIVE-IN FIRST KUNG FU MOVIE TO COME TO AMERICA GOOD STUFF
This was the baddest in that time era. this started the kung fu craze back in the day. love it.
Correct. This was the first movie to start the Martial Arts craze in the United States
But the movie that started it all was Come Drink With Me from King Hu
@@TheDreamtheaterlover Not Wong Fei Hung Series?
This is so different from most old king fu movies. Most, have a thousand strikes and a thousand blocks. In this, they either miss, or connect with their strikes. And when he gets knocked back into that wall! That is cool.
Your first description is the "shapes" era of KF movies, the late 70s and later. Jackie Chan, Sammo, Gordon Liu, the Venoms, etc etc.
This is from the earlier "basher" era that had less complex choreography and more focus on hard hitting violence. The One Armed Boxer, The Chinese Boxer, some Bruce Lee stuff and others are similar.
One of the few Kung Fu movies I have on DVD. Always enjoyable.
I quite agree with you. This was the film that started it all. It was the first film in UK. I saw it many times. It is the best film. Acting, stunts, story and especially the camera, fantastic footage. The scene the bar where he fights head butter, has to to the best martial arts clip ever.
saal2k7 ..And it was dark. Kinda sinister,if you know what I mean🤨
This is still my favorite martial art movie of all time.
RIP Sir Run Run Shaw who passed away yesterday aged 107 (wow). He produced this movie and arguably did more than anyone on the planet to popularize Asian martial arts.
Yes Sir Run Run Shaw and Runme Shaw
Bruce Lee did more to popularize Asian martial arts.
@@priestpega simply not true. Also this movie as well as other shaw brothers movies were far before Bruce Lee. Respect to him though.
I've watched this movie over and over and enjoyed it each time.
Originally when I worked in N.Y., I saw this movie 5 times on 42nd St. in N.Y.C.
@@cpl.linkis9623 Yup I enjoyed this movie back then .I did the same , watched it over and over again
Remember going to see this back in 1973 on a recommendation from a friend. The title was King Boxer and I thought that it was a western type ring boxing film, imagine my surprise when it opened with a group of people walking through an old Chinese town followed by a Kung fu street fight. I had never seen anything like it, but enjoyed it hugely.
One of the best Kung Fu movie of all time. Wants to believe lo lieh greatest masterpiece the action sequences superb love it Saw it under the title invincible boxer
Music and the sound effects are great!
He's got the Glow.
I watched this movie years ago when I was in primary school. During the school holidays I’d always go the video store and I noticed this movie. The most frightening part of this movie for me at the time was when one guy got both his eyes plucked out.
one of the best kung fu movies i had ever seen till date .
This was the first Kung fu movie i saw back in the day as a kid...never forget the eye gouge scene...next i watched in the theaters was Hong Kong Cat... for all the OGS who remember. Five fingers was and is a classic.. one of my Top 5 all time for sure.
I always loved the Chinese vs Japanese style in this movie. Amongst many other things. Truly groundbreaking.
Really? Have you heard a movie call Heroes of the East? This movie It starred Gordon Liu and was directed by Lau Kar-Leung.
Gordon have fight with different japanese style like Kenjutsu, Judo, Karate, Ninjutsu, etc. A very interesting movie.
Lo Leigh is the best !.... I can watch him All day !
Shaw brothers is the king of martial films and has the best characters shaw makes.
Years ago this was my first martial arts movie i love this movie my favorite chinese actor Lo Lieh beautiful i miss these shows i just saw it Run Run Shaw has passed away r.i.p Run Run Shaw your name will never be forgotten your a legend X D.Ngauma
I remember this movie ,this was the flick that started the kung- fu craze in America way back when l was a kid in the 70's.
Saw this on 42nd Street NYC with my Dad. RIP Pops.
One of the best kung fu movie with a few surprising elements. No wonder thus movie got its influential status. Lo lieh at its best too
He had the glow
a true martial arts classic!..
I remember seeing this movie at the Duchess Theatre on Chestnut Street in Philly. It was part of a crazy double feature along with Clint Eastwood's 'High Plains Drifter' (some combo!) This was the first kung fu movie I ever saw and many martial arts movies, anime, etc. have paid homage to and taken bits and pieces from this milestone epic!
Sho nuff glowing red hands
I would love to see Sho nuff on Tekken 7
I had only seen Lieh Lo as an awesome baddie in SB films when this popped up on Amazon Prime. Lieh Lo was a true Renaissance man. And, per Lau Kar Wing, highly intelligent and knew how to capture the full essence of his characters. King Boxer/5 Fingers of Death proves it. Lieh Lo kicks ass. Adore this man. Thanks for posting this. Now, I have to go rewatch this. :)
This flick just took me back to my childhood ☺
Classic kung fu movie with attitude
Five Fingers of Death a kung Fu classic
This was the best kung fu movie in the 70s the most “serious” and realistic (for a movie) this and heroes of the east are the best
damn I miss them days having my wall filled with Kung fu vhs's!
This is one of the best Kung Fu movie that Lo lieh is the lead star.
He usually played Bad Guys in most Kung Fu films.
This is the very first martial arts movie I ever saw. 😀
It was on the giant screens before they shrunk them down.
i read somewhere this was the first old school kung fu movie to be shown nationally in the U.S. theaters
It was. It became a monster hit and opened the floodgate of hundreds of kung fu films. Some were good, most were really very bad.
the first kung fu film to be released in america. a damn good movie but i still think enter the dragon made more of an impact in the states!
One of the first to be released..FIST OF FURY AKA BIG BOSS CAME OUT THE SAME DAY..
@@cleavegrier4890 Big Boss is the first Kung fu film that is released around the world.
@@cleavegrier4890 No
I'm pretty sure the Shaw Brothers had movies all around New York, before Bruce Lee was ever thought of
I lived in San Francisco on Russian hill. I would walk down the hill to Chinatown and see Kung Fu movies in one of the Chinese theaters. I was usually the only non-Chinese guy in the theater. I was doing this before before this movie came out. It was my favorite until Fist of Fury was released. After that I could see Kung Fu in regular theaters.
Five Fingers of Death one of my favorite movies 😎
Gerardo BarajasFirst Martial Arts movie I ever saw.
The best ever

A classic.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Yup. The first Kung Fu movie in America....1973 or 1974. I remember seeing it in the theater and thinking that it was all real. The "techniques", the leaps, the sound effects. Yup, I thought it was all real.
Great movie
The audio that is the motif for the red handed fist technique that Tarantino references in Kill Bill, is actually originally from the theme tune of an American cop series called Ironside, starring Raymond Burr (better known for Perry Mason) as a wheelchair bound police detective - and it was funny to hear it in King Boxer in the 70s - now with Kill Bill it is forever a martial arts reference
Quincy Jones composed that Ironside theme. He was a musical genius.
Coincidentally Bruce Lee Guest Starred on an Episode of Ironside once.
The role of Cha Ji Hao was meant to be played by Bruce Lee. But veteran Shaw Villain actor of Lo Lieh did a very good job as the lead.
Man, I was 11 yrs old when I first saw this film! Sweet memories!
Lo Lieh is much better off as a villain. It was still good to see him playing a hero role in Five Fingers of Death, but his Pei Mei character and among other films always stood out more for him because how great he played a villain role. He really was a great actor.
You are right...he might be the best villain with his great karate style in "The Chinese Boxer,Hammer of God" (1970) as "Kitama".
Lo Lieh was the BEST!!!
When the late Lo lieh was a power House in Shaw brother's studios, very good movie to watch, best. Plot
Got my copy yesterday fbank thank you lord Jesus amen 🙏
so that weird warning sound effect it came from this movie?
It's really from the Opening of Iron Side, A TV Show Starring Raymond Burr.
Está si es la película de 5 finguer of theath
i was 13 when i saw this movie in brooklyn on fulton st. This was the start of kun fu movies in America. I always called it 5 fingers of death, never heard the title kick boxer
In fact the the real title is KING BOXER not kick boxer, anyway it's better five finger of death.
Is that right? wow...King boxer lol, you live and you learn lol thanks
Darnell Branch I know this is a old post, but did you happen to see this movie at the Regent movie theater near Bedford ave?
Derek Harris i saw it at the Banco down the street from the Regent on the right going toward Nostrand ave....but i went to the Regent many times and saw 3 movies lol.
Lol !!! I remember the Banco. I never went there, but i remember the last movie that i saw advertised there was Dr black and Mister Hyde. I lived on Fulton and Saratoga ave in those days. We moved to Flatbush in 77.
This was a great fight. But my favorite fight of all time was when the hero of this story played the role of the Red Belt in the movie "The Hammer of God". Last fight was the best!!! The hero of this story to me is the also the best villain I have ever seen!!!! Now that is great acting!!!
BingCherry11
Yes. Besides this movie he is most memorable as the villain in several Kung Fu flicks later on.
This was one of the first kung fu movies from back in the day along with the Wang yu movies
In the early 70’s
Right on my friend, I was on The DUCE back when it was The Duce, with all the Chop Saki flicks. May those were some good days, Funland, and Rising Sun martial Arts store on the Duce. Peace onto you
This picture quality is exactly how the world looks when you're near sighted and don't have your glasses on, lol. Great fight though.
His punch had the force of an RPG.....
One of my classic martial art movies favorites of all time of all day of all second of all minutes of day of all week of all month of all year forever.
He's got the Glow. 😳
Unmentioned fact, the film is directed by Jung Chang-hwa, a Korean classical action director.
This movie was 20 years ahead of its time.
La vi en Santiago de Chile en 1972 súper
That poor Samurai guy never stood a chance against The Glow.
I'm trying to recall Shaw Brothers' good movies after Bruce Lee died.
18 Bronzemen come to mind.
Jackie Chan and Jet Li came later on.
If 18 bronzemen is the only shaw bros. You remember you probably havent seen many.
Good old movies..no stunts!!
The very first Gung Fu Movie!!!
Did they use substandard building materials?
The Power Up Theme You want Is The Opening To Ironside TV Theme Witch had an Episode with Bruce Lee In,
Yes my first favorite movie five fingers of death starring Lo Lieh and half time went outside to have an ice cream and wow first time saw Enter the Dragon Bruce Lee my love Wow fell in love with martial arts movies and i still do now its good to watch martial arts movies memory lane pretty much X D.Ngauma
This was released in the uk before any of the Bruce Lee films. And i saw it on a double bill with the film Superfly would you believe. Very atmospheric and if you watch the film Bolo from enter the dragon has a small part as a street fighter.
this movie is the inspiration for marvel's iron fist. or at least one of the inspirations.
You're right this is the movie that started it all, infact this movie along with Bruce Lee's movies and all the rest inspired me to make some short kung fu movies of my own, and the term baddest is used in the title of one of my movies. "Challenge of the Baddest" , you can link to my channel if you'd like to see it.... this fight scene at the end is epic...
Saw this at the Alex Theatre in Alexandria, LA. Time sure does Flys.
Ok damn man I just like his villiany more
baddest fight scene is from executioners from shaolin the priest bai me vs hung se quan
Don't fuck with the iron fist!
This is the first Kung-Fu movie I Ever saw , when it first came out in the movies back in the early 70's ,. Only weeks before Bruce Lee's First movie , Fist of Fury = the Big Boss in other countries....Five Fingers of Death. Is where it All start in America....!!! when they started putting English voices in the Asin movies.....I think also because, They know Bruce Lee movies was coming !!!!
Those walls needs thorough inspections
The film was amazing when I saw a couple years ago. I love the visuals on his red palms - was like a freaking anime. Love though how that soundtrack was what Kill Bill uses. God, I fucking love how he palm strikes through the beam to hit the guy like firing a fucking 50 cal. They sell so well when he hits them with the palm strike that it looks like they did just got smacked with a fucking howitzer
This film is great kung fu movie
tremendously good movie
This movie is how the love got started
Mu favourite villain of all time
I paid to see this movie in NY city five times :)
Sad, I just found out Lo Lieh is dead :(
My very first martial arts movie. Brings back memories!
5 Fingers may have pioneered the martial arts trend but it didn't start it. The Big Boss predates this by a year and I rate it much higher. Fists of Fury was released the same year as this.
Can u feel the intense drama?
The Japanese dude was really tough.
Yes. MIGHT survive one shot into a wall. Two? Nope. Unlike today's Marvel there is very little that can hurt them.
Now you know where Marvel's Iron Fist originates......
Okada! the baddest of the bad! Great Villain! Up there with the Kung Fu Beast from The Chinese Professionals !
I need to see the shaws brothers in one movie
Don't forget the five deadly venom!
I think he also made the best Pei Mei (white eyebrow) in the clan of the white lotus movies. He did great villain roles too, like in born invincible.
Amazing Movie
Without doubt the best marshal arts movie I ever saw, I went to the cinema in the UK to see King Boxer, it was the first truly "oriental market" release after Enter the dragon was shown in the UK and sent us all into space. At the cinema it was funny because they dubbed it into American English and it was very badly done and ridiculous, I recall a great scene in the market when A little Chinese guy was trying to get people to fight a huge muscle guy, the scene was amazing and introduced the coolest bad guy ever but the little Chinese man spoke with a strong Texas drawl and all Americanisms lol. it was STILL brilliant . A whole lot of rubbish followed but this was just wonderful. If you haven't seen it I can highly recommend it.
He used The Glow.
did he honetsly break a katana sword with his hand??haha
This was the first movie to set it off in the United states in the 1970's I remember watching it at the Stanford Theater in Palo Alto California. Our city went crazy with people wanting to learn Martial Arts. Man I miss those days
This is what inspired the Marvel comics character Iron Fist. The creator said this was the first kung fu movie he ever seen in a theater with is wife and he said to her "there's a superhero story in there I could use" and then he pitched it to Stan Lee. and it came out later in 1974
0:51 kill bill sound effects.
Im 56 i saw this movie with my Dad i was about. 5 or 6.m
Didn't realize that sound at 0:58 was from here. Just watched a hilarious video called Top WTF moments in kung fu and it uses that noise. 😄
Well at least now we know where Bruce Leroy got his glow from in The Last Dragon.😅😂
