Concerning the righteous who are spared, see 1 Nephi 22:16-17, 1 Nephi 22:19, 1 Nephi 22:22. While describing terrible events the Lord repeats that 'the righteous need not fear, they will be preserved'' ❤❤

Would love your thoughts. In the intro to “His Holy Name” Elder Oaks states the twelve are not to speak by commandment. Also D and C 43:5 says it is the law that we receive nothing as a revelation or commandment except what the prophet says. I think in our zeal we confuse everyone. People feel overwhelmed. The gospel is easy just listen to President Nelson’s talk each conference. Don’t worry about anything else. That is my mantra. It gets confusing when President Nelson says to study the other conference talks… but I do that as well. Not as revelations or commandments. I study the rest of conference as the spirit talks to me.
President Nelson seems to know that what he says matters and since he is prophet his advice has been more vague (except about going to the temple). Anyway if he say to do “x” it is 1000x more important than if anyone else said it. Basically only President Nelson has carte blanche. I don’t think we stress that enough. We should remember the law that is among us (D and C 43:5).

Do you obey because you are commanded? Or because you’re inspired? You seem to be focused on the question: who can command me? And you are right, the president of the church holds that responsibility. But I would invite you to focus on a different question: who can inspire me to improved behavior? I listen to “all the others“ because they have sought diligently to speak by the power of the Holy Ghost. Reading their talks often opens the door of communication between me and heavenly father through the Holy Ghost. And then I get personal commandments, personal inspiration. I hear things I specifically need to do to improve. It’s not what comes FROM them. It’s what comes THROUGH them that matters.
