  • The Savior told the Nephites and Lamanites in 3 Nephi 21 that in order for the restoration to come forth he would need to establish a “free people” by the power of God. Bryce here explains what is involved in being a free people. If we are to be a free people that carries the restoration to the world, we must accept the responsibility that comes with our freedom.

Thank you Bro Dunford for your wise counsel. I will think and ponder how I can be more responsible than I try to be.

I think many of us are willing to be responsible as long as we feel we have had a fair voice in how the government is going to use our money. Yes, we have representation as well as taxation, but many of us do not believe that the government is functioning the way it is supposed to anymore. After all, the founding fathers claimed that our form of government would only function if it had a righteous people whose majority voice would choose righteous policies. I’m not convinced we have that anymore. Hence why many of us are wanting some distance between ourselves and what others would say is “our responsibility”. We want to be taxed less and to have less restrictive and intrusive laws because we don’t have confidence in the government as it currently operates.

I would say that paying taxes is not our biggest violation. Not taking care of our own needs; spiritual, mental, physical, emotional, but rather putting that responsibility onto someone else, is what I see as our biggest lack of responsibility. We are always complaining that someone isn’t doing for me what I should really be doing for myself.

@@talkingscripture yes I very much agree. Maybe when I heard you saying responsibilities numerous times in the video, I was thinking you primarily meant we need to be happy to pay our taxes. I see that’s not necessarily always what you meant. I very much agree with how you frame it here 🙂 thanks for the reply and for being a wonderful teacher.

Another common element is a complete disregard for how one’s actions impact the people around him or her. So many people drive like no one else matters but them.
