In this episode with David Butler and Mike Day we discuss his up and coming book, "In The Language of Adam." Dave shares his thoughts on the Lehi's journey in The Book of Mormon and how it correlates with the tabernacle of Moses described in Exodus 20.
    D. John Butler (Dave) is a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His training is in law, and he also writes fiction. He has written three books on his finds in the scriptures entitled “Plain and Precious Things,” “The Goodness and The Mysteries,” and "In The Language of Adam."
The description of "In The Language of Adam" is as follows: Nephi puts us on notice in his very first sentence that The Book of Mormon was written by temple worshippers and for temple worshippers. He and the other prophets of The Book of Mormon, who called themselves the visionary men and the peaceable followers of Christ, knew and practiced a mystery, an ordinance by which they ascended through the temple and entered into the presence of God. This ordinance was embodied in a dramatic representation of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden and their return to it, in which initiates played the roles of Adam and Eve or their descendants.
The drama expressed the great doctrines of the visionary men about the purpose of life, the fall and redemption, Adam and Eve’s choice, and Christ’s triumph. It contained the moral commitments of the visionary men, and it taught them spiritual disciplines such as prayer, fasting, washing, and anointing. It brought them to share a feast with the Lord and then to petition at the veil of the holy of holies to be admitted as one of the children of God.
The Nephite prophets used the sights, experiences, furniture, architecture, sounds, and even tastes of their temple experience to inform their writing. In the Language of Adam explores that complex constellation of information as a language--as a symbolic vocabulary for communicating and perceiving important truths. The more we understand about the temple practices of the visionary men, the better we can read The Book of Mormon, as well as the writings of visionary men in the Bible and elsewhere. Knowing the mystery-language of Adam will allow us to see more clearly the precious spiritual gems that Lehi and his party fled Jerusalem to preserve, and that they recorded on the plates to be restored in our day.
The Stick of Joseph RUclips channel seeks to make the Book of Mormon accessible to all ages by making engaging, entertaining and informative content.

After recently discovering this channel and directing my studies toward the depth of temple symbolism, My wife and I decided to increase our temple attendance from a couple times per year to a couple times per month.
Then general conference came along and dropped absolute nukes of wisdom and confirmation regarding the temple with its symbolism and blessings. Thank you guys for being a crucial piece in my personal process of recent spiritual development. ❤

Thank you . Even if I am an Amateur , when I was studied Jewish weddings and Wowsers . One thing I found was as they are getting married their hands are bound together with a cloth called binding swaddle cloth .
Its purpose is after the binding at the wedding its used to swaddle their children in it.
🤯 chist was wrapped in swaddling cloths . It was this binding swaddle cloth, he was warped in .
It was embroidered with signs of the linage of David. Like lambs , lions, ect . Hopefully I can submit it to an church art event . But its fun . Its a box canvas so I painted the back ,like a wood door , so it can close around the fount. Then when you open it , it becomes a night Seen of a court yard of people in the background , in the front you have 4 people with next to them a table with 4 🪔 and a 5 th coming threw the door this represent Us . . ..
you can Guess who the 4 people are . They are all looking at each other. Except Christ he’s looking at you with a slight smile 😊.

He wasn’t just using the Tabernacle because it was going back to basics, it is also because they are on their own journey in the wilderness. They absolutely would need their own tabernacle if temple worship were the whole reason for leaving Jerusalem. I like this thought process.

“And my father dwelt in a tent” has always had a double meaning to me… Moses had two tents, it just made sense to me that Lehi (and even Noah) did too
*when the OT talks about Noah, a tent and wine, my impression from the Spirit has been, that he was in a Tabernacle performing a wine libation ordinance… my impression has been that this is one of the plain and precious truths that has been obscured and changed in scripture
I cannot wait for Christ to come and give us back all the truth lost, obscured and changed, and if Moroni’s library opens up during the Millennium, that is going to be a place I spend a lot of time in… right after the Temple
    🙂

I've been thinking about how the menorah is mentioned as being outside the holy of holies in Exodus, but the menorah/tree/grove is inside the holy of holies when Josiah takes it out. Obviously, you could say that is just how it was. But take some time to imagine these two scenarios in your mind.
    1. You are inside the tabernacle. It is dark since there are no windows. The priests light the menorah and the alter of incense. Now the room is light and you can see another room blocked from your view by a pair of curtains. You know the ark is inside but you can't see anything because it is dark in there. It seems like no one is home. God does not dwell there, only His name.
    2. You are inside the tabernacle. It is slightly dark since the only light in the room is from the alter of incense. You can make out the other furniture in the room, but the room is not super bright. As you look towards the holy of holies, you see a bright glow coming from behind the curtains. Someone is home. God's abode is back there.
Putting the menorah back into the holy of holies makes way more sense from a spiritual and dramatic point of view.

51:53 great point on Aseneth. As the daughter of the priest of Amun this is significant with “honey” because Joseph collected from all of Egypt except the Temples, and the Temples and priests were provided for by Joseph’s budget plan. The idea of “honey” refers to wild honey and goats milk, which act as manna in the wilderness. So in a time of economic hardship, all was provided for like the Israelites later experienced in the wilderness. There are insects in that region that suck the sap of trees and excrete a sweet wax/bread like substance which resembles honey. During that time in the wild there was more savanna’s and grass lands than today. Just really cool about the covenant living, literally becomes preservation in the midst of the hardships. That preservation changed with the 18th Dynasty with the The an kings who did not know Joseph and reformed all writing by implication of more pagan gods, the facsimiles we have from the text of Abraham did not exist as drawings until the 18th dynasty. So the book of the dead texts then were likely given pagan attributes but around 700BC and on, Jews returned to Egypt and built temples, and substituted Egyptian funerary practices and icons like Osiris for Abraham. Egyptologists will admit this but still claim Joseph made it all up. There is just too much cool stuff!

    • @rconger24
      @rconger24 2 месяца назад +2

Facsimiles and Iconography? Iconography is very inexpensive today but took far more effort to have anciently. Makes sense they would've borrowed Iconography or facsimiles alot.

Oh my goodness!!! It took me forever to completely get through this podcast. I backed this video up probably at least 50 times. I was so caught up in each new concept, I found my mind constantly wondering and making connections with what I feel I understand to be truth.
I find it interesting Lehi and his family spent 8 years in Bountiful. 7 means "complete" and 8 means "a new beginning" therefore, when Lehi and his family entered the arc, they started a new beginning. "Sea" means chaos. The arc protected them from chaos (the sea). This is where my thoughts kept going.
I wish so badly you would get someone on this channel who has studys how the spirit and body work together. Remember, we call our bodies our "temples". I seen many connections throughout the text that scream "temple text" when the scriptures talk about the heart and mind. I've done my best to do my own personal study. I know there is a lot in the scriptures trying to teach us about our personal temples, our bodies. As of right now, I feel I know enough to frustrate me. This frustration is also wonderful curiosity that keeps my adding to this wonderful huge jigsaw puzzle. Keep going with these podcasts. I love listening and learning.

You know, when you put together all of the things that Mike Day and David Butler have said with things that have been said by other people, such as Wayne May, and all of your other guests you start to get a much bigger, multi level more complex image of the book of Mormon, and the civilizations and societies and individual people that were detailed in the different stories. This is what lens absolute 100% credibility to the existence of a civilization in the Americas. That was godly and tech logically advanced because of their divine knowledge and wisdom given to them by God and the Holy Spirit. The most recent video about the connection between Mulk and Ireland is fascinating because I have used all the videos to make some connections with that and I think he’s right. I think there are things that have been left behind in North America by the Mulekites for those who understand what they are. Cultural continuity is a very important consult in Native American life and there are things that still exist that are still done today that would indeed blow your mind.

Also can Eden be the second room as well as the holy of holies? When the earth is terrestrialized, it will be renewed and receive its oaradasical glory (paradise like Eden) … so in my mind it’s the second room. Do much to ponder…I know our temples aren’t exact one for one exchange as the tabernacle I guess. Love the Deborah/bee connection. So many things are going through my mind about bees now- they are calmed by smoke. They have a queen who they nourish, she just produces eggs/seed/fruit? The queen has a smooth stinger which means she can sting over and over again and won’t die whereas the other bees die once they sting. Kinda like eternal lives…where is thy sting I death… y’all are my people!!!

O death…just pondering about queen bee as HM now. Worker bees are all female/drones are male. If I remember right from a field trip to the bee center. Also without our pollinators we wouldn’t have fruits and veggies- all things do point to Christ

I had a thought when studying the Book of Mormon this year than 1 Nephi was intended to be a text used in the temple and that initiates would re-create the scenes of Nephi's departure, wanderings, trials, and arrival in the Promised Land.
Glad to know I was onto something.

BOYS! I'm reading the great High priest by Margaret Barker, and in her chapter called "Wisdom, the queen of heaven" she describes the mother God in Ugarit having a son who goes by Shahar or Shalem. Like Dave says Shalem means peaceful ones. Thought that was interesting, that the mother God, the consort of El, has a son whose name is Peace ✌️ pretty sick!

I'm really loving this discussion. A couple of things I thought of as you were talking of deseret and the people of Jared (and I hope you have a similar discussion about their journey). When they left to come to the promised land, they left from Babel( Babylon) rather than Israel. And they went North. We are not sure which direction they went from there when they went into the quarter where there never had man been, but we know there was a lot of water. They built barges more than once. So I don't think they took a similar route to the people of Nephi. And I'm sure the land was different then, than now. It wasn't too many years after the flood. Anyhow, I love all your points of direction towards the temple and all the symbolism you've been sharing. Keep up the marvelous connections and thoughts!!!

I just finished this video and something Jackson said about Enos at the very end reminded me of something I shared with some friends on Facebook. It might be a little long, but I hope you consider it:
Just some rambling thoughts that come from my latest studies in The Book of Mormon. I was reading from the book of Enos about his wrestle with God before he received a remission of sins. Often, when people talk about Enos and his wrestle with God, they often compare it with Genesis 32 where Jacob wrestles with the angel and receives the new name of Israel. Most often when this comparison is made the whole focus is upon prayer. I’m not discounting the importance of prayer, but I believe that is only part of the symbolism that this episode is trying to teach us. What about the idea of receiving a new name?
In my personal studies I like to read a lot of Jewish teachings from rabbis that you won’t find in the Bible. In many of these things I’ve read the rabbi will often repeat a phrase like “…blessed be the name of God” when mentioning God or His name. You can see that same phrase two or more times in a single sentence depending on how they word their statements. It becomes a little monotonous when every sentence mentions God multiple times in a paragraph, and so I find my self skimming over those phrases quickly. This can be a big mistake when it comes to reading The Book of Mormon.

Let me illustrate with the first verse of Enos:
“Behold, it came to pass that I, Enos, knowing my father that he was a just man-for he taught me in his language, and also in the nurture and admonition of the Lord-and blessed be the name of my God for it-”
What if Enos makes use of this phrase in a way that is not expected? In the generic sense of “…blessed be God, and His name.” What if Enos is saying “…one of the NAMES of God is Blessed?”
We find this way of thinking during the trial of the Savior when he is questioned by the high priest in Mark 14: 61-“But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” That’s Blessed with a capital “B” like it’s a name. With all this in mind, ponder verses 1-2, 5, and 27.
1&2. Behold, it came to pass that I, Enos, knowing my father that he was a just man-for he taught me in his language, and also in the nurture and admonition of the Lord-and blessed be the name of my God for it-And I will tell you of the wrestle which I had before God, before I received a remission of my sins.
    5. And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed(or in other words, some day you shall be named Blessed).
    27. And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I know that in him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me: Come unto me, ye blessed(could it be that he is given that name?), there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father. Amen.
Is Enos using the symbolism of his wrestle with God in prayer, and the possible name of “Blessed” to mirror the experience of his ancestor Jacob in Genesis 32?
I didn't mention some things I believe I have read about the wrestle of Jacob being related to a sacred embrace in connection with him receiving the name of Israel, but I hope this all made sense. After pondering all of David Butler's videos that you shared over the past 3 months, a crazy thought crossed my mind. Maybe Dave addresses something like this thought in his book, but what if this possible name of Blessed is related to Asherah/Tree of Life? Wouldn't that be a "HAPPY" coincidence(pun intended)?! If not, then the day may come that Enos tells me that I'm off my rocker!

I think that the difference in the stories in the 2nd room is that while they all have the same component piece (death/mourn, complain, comfort), each story is focused on a different aspect.
Ismael: focused on death and mourning
    Broken bow: focused on murmuring.
So it’s like a stair step in focus until Bountiful, which is likely the fulfillment of comfort.

In connection with the tree and bees, thinking about the relationship with the tree and her fruit. A tree doesn’t get together with another tree to procreate, it is done through pollination from bees. So is it really that much of a stretch to compare trees and bees to the mother of the Son of God, her fruit and the “immaculate conception”

Thanks for sharing. The temple experience is great but I will say that nothing prepares us today for understanding the temple with out many many hours of searching and praying. The temple is a wonderful and different experience and because of many factors we can not understand everything about the temple and we all will experience different things . The temple will feel weird because nothing else on earth makes a replica to experience it. No matter how many times we go to the temple we will learn something new when we make efforts to learn and pray .

This is a very fascinating take on the Book of Mormon. I watched the video before of you guys talking about Zedekiah’s time where they smash the stuff in the temple to stop them from doing their religion and I had a thought come to my mind. That the Lord allowed this to happen, because…. Of the divine feminine(heavenly mother).
Isaiah wrote about the violent removal of the menorah from the holy of holies, to remind us. The lord took her away from them whom did this act. So they may never drag her through the mud again. So when Nephi came along, the Lord decided that it was time to bring her back to us, but did it in code. So only those with eyes to see could see her. Could this be right it’s just a thought!

    • @brettnoel7479
      @brettnoel7479 2 месяца назад

Could your idea of the Divine Feminine also have a connection with Enos and his wrestle with God, Jacob's wrestle with the angel(Genesis 32), and receiving a new name? Consider the possibility of Enos saying 'blessed be the name of God' in verse 1 as meaning one of the names of God is Blessed(think of Mark 14:61, and also Dave Butler's idea of Blessed = Asherah). Now go back and read Enos verses 1-2, 5, and 27 with these ideas in mind. Just a thought

Just saw the Zenif intro as an Eden or creation story...he looked and saw that it was good. There was a rebellion where a good portion of the crew rebelled and sought to overthrow the good. For a time they labored without opposition. Then the adversarial king decided to play a power check over his dominion....the parallels continue

I am watching Dave Butler talking about the temple narrative outlined in Matthew 5-7 and it confirms the following idea that I have had for quite some time about the temple.
That is, that the name you take to the temple is your TICKET into the school. It does not, in any way represent any responsibility on us to be righteous FOR the people we present to the temple.
After we enter the temple, their learning begins AND so does ours but they are, in no way connected. we are not responsible for them by "Proxy" but they cannot enter the temple space without us presenting those names.
And the connection in both the Bible and the Book of Mormon to the Lord feeding us once we are there is quite amazing.

Don Bradley also makes the connection that the sword of Goliath was in the kept in the tabernacle and probably the 1st temple as well (1 Sam. 21:8-10). Lehi and his group bring the sword of Laban with them, and it acts in place of the sword of Goliath as a temple/tabernacle furnishing. To what end I don't know, but that feels like it is connected as well. We know that it was taken with them into the new world.

I presume both here are talking about Don Bradley's book "Lost 116 Pages".
IIRC he posits that the first section of the book of Lehi is about reestablishing a covenant nation of Israel, under Lehi's leadership. In light of that, it is more fitting to revisit the archetypes of the exodus and tabernacle, rather than of the kingdom and temple. Nephi in 2 Nephi does mention the establishment of the kingdom and temple, but I have not yet tried to identify the archetypes there.

    • @Silvananthus
      @Silvananthus 2 месяца назад

@@mroberts7117 I would think that the sword of Laban or the sword of Goliath might have some connotation of kingship or the defeat of the nation's foes. We do know that the King had responsibilities in the temple and so symbols of kingship could be appropriate for the setting. Don Bradley posits that Laban's sword may have in fact belonged to Joseph of Egypt and was passed down to Laban. There are many types and symbols to unpack in that.
