The “upload image” option would literally be a game changer omg 😭 I’m so tired of looking at the housing website bc they’re so generic and don’t really show the dorms properly
9:43 Hey Jed, love this series already! I had some ideas while watching. I don’t mean to impose, but just wanted to share some ideas 🙌 Re: Ad Space; **Real Estate** You could reach out to Zillow, Redfin, Real Estate Agents, etc. **Dorm goods** People looking at dorms are primed to buy dorm-related goods. So, you could sell space to a company like Walmart or Target who might place ads for things like shower caddies or laundry hampers. **Colleges** If you could somehow find out the user’s year while onboarding, you can make an option called like “prospective student” or “deciding student.” So, if I’m deciding between schools and I’m looking at Stanford dorms, you could sell that ad space to Berkeley. Re: Marketing; **Stickers** You could leverage your YT audience and send them RatemyDorm stickers to put everywhere on their respective campuses. **booth** Could also do meet and greets on campuses with fans, while sitting in a RatemyDorm booth. The commotion from your fans would likely draw more attention to the booth as well. Anyways, this is awesome stuff! Can’t wait for part 3.
I could see this easily adding apartment reviews once you’re ready to go beyond dorms. It’ll increase your market size and many people change apartments multiple times a year vs forms being once a year.
Remember, many other countries DON'T have dorms/housing at their colleges. Most ppl commute. Just something to think about. But this is dope dude! Keep grinding! RUclips. Web development. All of it! 💯

Hey jed, a cool feature to have would be some type of info that says “last renovation: {date}” on each dorm’s page so that way all reviews could stay over the years and the user would look at that date and compare it with the date of the reviews in order to get a somewhat more accurate perception of the quality of living in that dorm.
A really great idea and I really like how you bring the video! I am a startup founder myself about tourism in Indonesia, and you give me many inspirations. Good luck for RateMyDorm!
I work at startup company for more than 3 years. I know this is not 'that easy' like what people see from this video, aspecially they who have no experience with code/tech company or something like that. I hope you always doing well, Jed. Don't forget to take a break and rest. Im rooting for youuuu💗💗💗 hopefully this channel can be growing more and moreee
In 'Write a Comment Section' how about accept short comments as well, and in the preview have the default option 'Most Relevant' comments. Also, you can add like a 'warning' when they type in the comment like 'hey write more so ur comment gets displayed.' Just a thought 😉
Ayee love this series, would be really insightful and more of an interesting story if you could document the downfalls and second thoughts during the entire process
Oh! For dorms that are already on the site, maybe add a quick search text box. So as the lists get longer, users won't have to scroll as far down the page! Love this series Jed! You are an inspiration.
This is such a great help for students looking for dorms. I would love to it to be available here in the Philippines. Since most student especially college students are having a hard time looking into dorms. Even those who are just looking for dorms. This would be a great help. I will share this one.
Really cool startup idea! If you added a email subscription option to the website pre-lauch, would be great to see the notification come through when it's live! Happy to help set it up as well.
I usually skip over sponsors in videos, but for some reason I decided to watch this one. I'm very glad that I did. I've been interested in Data Science and this website seems like such a good introduction for me! Thank you!
Some schools run on the quarter system so not all schools run on the semester system so rate myprofessor is way more handy there. Also courses change and evolve and instructors can teach multiple courses which is why ratemyprofessor is so handy. Rating dorms seems kinda pointless when people are only going to check it once a year (if even that). I also think most people know about dorms from orientations and word of mouth from students, there's never really a large pool for housing as there is for instructors/courses. The idea is interesting albeit not the most useful imo
thanks for the feedback! agreed that there's a higher demand for RMP- but regarding dorming, i think it's demand is a school by school thing. for BU, i had to choose my freshman dorm before orientation. never went on campus so i remember having to just google reviews. and even as a student i never really had information on other dorms. pretty much all my friends lived in the same dorms as me
this sounds so cool! And I'm the blogwriter you need! I've been working on fiverr for around 3 years now particularly in the ghostwriting niche (writing ebooks/ novels/ biographies etc) , so if you need someone to roll out blogs every day, I'm it.
This has to be the only series that touches on building in public an indie project. Would be cool if to extend the idea, instead of traditional fundraising, you can get investment using crowdfunding/syndicate
Dude I fucking love your vids so much man I swear you're so underrated. You will get 1 million subscribers by the end of 2022 no doubt. Also I would really appreciate if you could upload videos in 4k resolution :) (or atl east 1440p)
I just really like how he shows programming in Anime style. "creating an HTML input tag with type equaling file will give me that native file attachment",
The designs are actually not bad, it’s clean and minimalistic Great work Let me know if you want to do something like this in India, can expand together
Love what I'm seeing, man. I know the site is the main point here, but I really want to show some appreciation for this video. SO many moving parts here - different moments, settings, lighting set-ups, steady shots and tracking shots, well-timed screen recordings as well as glare-free non-screen-recorded shots of your computer screen. The composition in each frame is impeccable and the split screen moments make excellent use of the wider aspect ratio in the voiced-over cinematic montages, both horizontally and vertically. Also, the pacing is really good; I really don't see how anyone can get bored watching this even if they don't know anything about the project. The chapter markers make sense too, as everything feels very precise. You've done an amazing job here, seriously.
Switching gears to the site itself though, the functionality is great and I really like how much thought you've put into each aspect of the experience - I especially think it's cool how your train of thought on certain features (the .edu review requirement for example) has developed since the last video in the series. From my point of view, everything is quite intuitive.
Do you have plans to open source it, or invite collaboration? I'd like to work on this for practice, but also something I can add to my resume. Currently a Software Engineer intern :)
Your videos are so inspiring! Your 'I'm building a startup' video actually inspired me and I got an idea for an original project which might help students as well. Ofc, its a secret for now but I think it can do great. Best wishes Jed! Hope you succeed!
Great progress! To make searching for schools that haven't been reviewed yet smoother, could you already have a list of all the colleges/universities in your database or pull them from an external API? That way users won't have to manually enter the name of the school and you won't have to manually verify each new school that gets added
If you get funding, don't spend any on ad marketing. Better spend it on user research or others where you can get the most value in the long run. Getting organic users should be one of the metrics you will need to validate the need of this product.
When Jed realises this is the beginning of his global online student housing/real estate company. There’ll come a time in 20 years where the mainstream way globally to rent student housing is through tour website.
I am kinda curious what things were used in making this whole project? frontend and backend. If someone is starting new to coding, what would you recommend to learn to someday make something like this?
It looks like React with Tailwind Css for the front end, and likely MongoDB for backend Database with Express as the server ( or probably firebase which pipes to Express).
This vid is your BEST, so far! Transitions, cinematics, music, dubbing, and PURPOSE are all of great quality. It is refreshing to see AUTHENTIC content like this. To answer what you asked (hahaha), I don't understand much about coding but I want to see more of it. It is inspiring! Maybe I can go back to these videos someday and say, "oh so this is what he did here."
looks amazing!! everything is so well thought out! The image section is def a must have feature. love the vid even tho i know nothing about coding/programming. haha

Bro india is the market and this thing will not work here at all
It would be nice if you can title it Part-1,2 and make a playlist! Big fan! Great work :)
Thanks RUclips algorithm for bringing me here :) what camera do you film with?
This is a million dollar idea. Great thinking bro and congrats on the money you're about to start making 5 years from now based on this idea.
The “upload image” option would literally be a game changer omg 😭 I’m so tired of looking at the housing website bc they’re so generic and don’t really show the dorms properly

🔥🔥 great ideas! Thanks!!
damn. you're good at this
He can also integrate affiliate marketing in this. So if any of his audience recommend to another, he might get some discounts or commission.
It's super awesome how Jed thinks that this website should be used globally. Yes Jed, same thoughts there.
I could see this easily adding apartment reviews once you’re ready to go beyond dorms. It’ll increase your market size and many people change apartments multiple times a year vs forms being once a year.
You go boy!!!
Go get em!!
Wishing you the best from Guam🏝
Remember, many other countries DON'T have dorms/housing at their colleges. Most ppl commute. Just something to think about. But this is dope dude! Keep grinding! RUclips. Web development. All of it! 💯
thanks!!
the coding sequence was inspired by mr. robot haha
Seeing Jed doing this made me rethink that I should resurrect the student left in me.
do it
Cool 👀. As a Computer Science student, this is the side of Software Engineering I love. Building stuff that can be used by many people
💻🤝
the coding sequence was inspired by Mr Robot haha

Can't Wait Till The Project Is Done 💻👍🏿
you should consider getting adsense on your website so you can start earning right away before a tech company makes an offter
your videos are so motivating! it makes me wanna create something too
you should!
love the upload photo part of your video. it has that "social network" movie vibe.
Fav movie
Are you planning on doing a funding round for subscribers. I've got 10K looking for a good home for some equity
Coding: I haven’t got a clue. But your videos: always love them. And that music - while describing uploading photos to rate my dorm - was everything!
Ayee love this series, would be really insightful and more of an interesting story if you could document the downfalls and second thoughts during the entire process
I just love seeing jed so lively when he's talking about his startup.
Jed really inspired me to be a programmer🙂
You are literally my inspiration I'm looking forward to let all my friends know about ratemydorm and about your RUclips channel
thank you!!!
Coming back to rewatch that opening scene🙌...congrats on the launch all the best in your startup journey. This videos gave me huge inspiration
Oh! For dorms that are already on the site, maybe add a quick search text box. So as the lists get longer, users won't have to scroll as far down the page! Love this series Jed! You are an inspiration.
man's bouta hit 100k lets get him there
YOO IM EXCITED. MAN IF SCHOOLS NATIONWIDE ARE PLANNING TO IMPLEMENT THIS WEBSITE FOR COLLEGE PREP FOR HS SENIORS.... DAWG PLEASE REMEMBER US
the cinematic shots , BEAUTIFUL
I like the "Jesse hacking Harvard" scene in the Social Network reference of an edit here. It kinda gave me the same vibe.
This is definitely going to be a huge success. Good luck!

this sounds so cool! And I'm the blogwriter you need! I've been working on fiverr for around 3 years now particularly in the ghostwriting niche (writing ebooks/ novels/ biographies etc) , so if you need someone to roll out blogs every day, I'm it.
Another group of companies that would be interested in ads would be storage/shipping companies (people need to store stuff over summer for next year)
Great idea!

Interesting idea!
JED JED JED 💕 reminds me of kdrama START UP❤️Keep it up Jed. Supporting silently 💕

Your videos are so simple but at the same time they are not ordinary, they are very inspiring for me
Love your channel keep up the good work🖤
thanks!
this could really turn into something big it's even crazier that you're doing this all by yourself
im interested to see you progress.
i have recently started with learning python and its cool to see how much you can do with coding knowledge
Can't wait for you to launch your website I'll make sure to leave reviews on the dorms I have been up until now.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Every video gets better and better! You are so underated!!! Hang In there man and stay safe!
I just really like how he shows programming in Anime style.
"creating an HTML input tag with type equaling file will give me that native file attachment",
I've learn many things on this series. I will apply this because now I'm a graduating student taking Information Technology.
Yes extend it to Rent My Dorm. Then Apartment, Condo, House. Goodluck jed khalifa.
Great idea! I suggest asking people to tag at least 2 or three people for the giveaway.
Looks like you are killing it so far. Keep working hard
this is going to be big. i already know it.
as a CS student, you're the most relatable youtuber for me.
ps. I also use the same stack as yours.
What stack it is?
we are literally seeing a multi millionaire in the making congrats Jed!
Jed : 11:09 I'll probably won't talk about ratemydorm much.
Me: you almost told everything 🤣🤣🤣
damn man the cinematics in this video is out of this world😳😳
haha thanks!
The designs are actually not bad, it’s clean and minimalistic
Great work
Let me know if you want to do something like this in India, can expand together
Good ol shark tank intro
The design already looks nice

All the best with your Starup Jed. I’am creating a startup too, but as an App for iOS & Android. Best of Luck Jed🔥💪

just add a new series of documenting all the things you code for this or do some new things.
it would be great!!

Loving this series! Even though your sites design is not done it already looks really good. Can’t wait to see when it’s done

Thought I was watching a movie after the intro sequence
Lol i enjoyed that voiceover during the coding session. Nice video man. You are gonna be big one day
the sequence at 6:20 is insane bro - I keep coming back to watch it!!
I am also going to launch my startup in feb ... woho
im just so mesmerized at how jed describes everything and seeing this come together is so damn cool 😀 cant wait for whats next
Jed's gonna get big one day. 💯
Serious Social Network vibes from 6:20 - 8:16
Happy to see a such a proiect, I really liked the coding part with firebase, keep the good work man 🍕
bro, you are 🐐
Go Jed! I know there's still a lot of laborious hard work from here but rooting for you!
Currently doing my summative tests right now and a notif pop-up showing this vid, thanks for reminding me to take a rest jed! love ur vids
good luck :)

Y’all should make one #RateMyStudents
How about #RateMyClassmates?
Wow the site looks so good sheesh and I ain’t even in college no more
What would you want to see more of in part 3?
Hell yeah!👍🏻
Your coding.

more of the actual coding and the results, and I really love how u explain your process.
Not sure if the dorm reviews also count towards off-campus housing, but it'll be useful to implement as well
that cinematic sequence was out of a movie or something
Thank you for inspiring me and everyone! I hope everything goes really well and the outcome is even better! Best of luck :))
Genuinely hoping you could finish this sooner! I'm going to grad school this Fall and dorm ratings would def help haha
You could expand to rating dining halls as well!
Look good!!! I would also add an image resizer to your upload method to save storage cost and bandwidth.
Definitely 🙏🏻
damn the second half of the video reminds me of mr robot
ur content is getting better and better every vid
Design looks fantastic!
If you complicate the design and make it flashy I will beat you with a stick. What you have now is great, ship it!
Dont forget south Africa ..its gonna get hella users here ..freal
looks amazing!! everything is so well thought out! The image section is def a must have feature. love the vid even tho i know nothing about coding/programming. haha
