We need to really get Clark to a million subs asap, these videos are such a joy to watch and ultimately would love to see Clark as a judge one day.
Katy was so different! She actually gave constructive criticism... It's almost like she watched your show lol
It's also SO MUCH harder to score well early in Hawaii, because it's daytime. When it's dark and the stage lights have their full effect - it's so much more powerful.
Absolutely! Such an obvious difference.
Love your honesty about Blake. He's such a nice guy, but omg... He shouldn't be in this competition. I listen to you for the truth and I really appreciate it. I love that you love Jesus too!!
You would make a GREAT judge!!!!!!!!!
I thought Abi’s performance had problems, but the purity and gorgeousness of her voice and ability cut through and made me love her.
Jordan wasn't even on my radar until last night. I feel like his voice last night was perfection.
Quantavious was my favorite of both shows! He had me in tears with chills the whole song! 🙌🏼😭💜
The ending quote needs to be required reading for anyone commenting on any platform for any subject or genre, and initialed or repeated before allowed to comment as there are so many, too many, critics willing to tear down someone who was at the very least willing to try. Thank you for sharing it!! Such a stellar reminder… and motivator (put up or shut up, kind of vibe), thank you!!
Clark. I want you to show us your version of Gold. To give the rest of us a perfect example of why we STILL watch Idol…sing ‘When A Man Loves A Woman’ and watch new subscribers stampede to join.
I thoroughly enjoy you, your channel, your critiques and more. Thanks Clark 😊
Thanks Clark. I agreed with everything you mentioned about the contestants performances last night. I thought it was just me but hearing your thoughts validated how I was feeling. Love that you’re doing this!
100 percent agreed with you on Abi. So you are not alone there. I also agree that Jayna is the best vocalist in the show. I love her! I was also really disappointed that Hailey was put first and I did not like her song at all. I still love her and hope she went through.
Jayna! Thanks for saying she is the best vocalist 👏
Rewatched your road to the final.
You were incredible.......post more songs coz your Yebba Clarke 'gravity ' is on repeat. ❤
Great breakdown, Clark!
You're not alone Clark!! I was so enthralled with Abi's audition and basically called her the winner, and tbh I haven't felt the same way since. I just haven't loved her last couple performances, and yes I know she was sick last time so that's different. I thought the best she's done since the audition was the song she sang with the other 2 platinum ticket winners at the beginning of the Idol Arena or whatever. IDK if she's just in her head with all the pressure or what. But I've been waiting for her to knock me out like she did with "What was I made for?" and it hasn't happened. Yet. I'm still holding out hope that she'll get it together.
She did a fantastic job on oceans. Her backup singers sang over her in parts by she was wonderful. Don’t know so y’all listened to cause as a singer myself she was great on this song!
@@Chey60 I never said she was bad lol it just didn't blow me away like her audition did. And "as a singer myself" ALSO (not sure how that's relevant on someone's opinion but I'll go with it) that's just my opinion. Some people just sound better when it's stripped down to just a guitar or a piano. Not to mention, at the end of the day all music is subjective.
Many voices this year remind me of former idol contestants from wayyyy back in the day.
McKenna - Lindsey Cardinale with the awesome rasp.
Nya - a little bit of Paige Miles in her voice, but much more control.
Julia - has some Jennifer Hudson tone in her lower notes.
thats so crazy lol i said the exact same thing about julia and nya!
Abi is totally Angie miller from years ago!!
The only thing I hated was the mocktail bar keyboard stand with the random potted plants placed in front. Made some of the singers look like they were doing a pandemic performance from a second story window in Waikiki.
I agree. It was very tacky.
You were spot on everything even the flowers on the piano😂
LOVE ABI CARTER! 💞
My moma passed away in 2015. I was crying during Kayko's performance. He became my favourite one
Love watching these videos Clarke! Looking forward to this one.
I didn't like this mode on Jayna as much as many people did. I think her tone and fast vibrato are bright and pretty (very Jordin Sparks). All that rasp and pushing didn't let me hear what I love about her gift. I much prefer her The Climb performance style.
Re: Abi, it’s interesting to see Katy flag her as the favorite after singing a worship song, while we saw Cameron Leigh Smith penalized at this very same stage for singing a worship song a few years back.
Regardless, really enjoyed her performance.
what you overlooked Nya?? she is beyond epic!!
That’s what I am saying she is PHENOMENAL!!!!
I almost saw Kayko's joy during "How to Live Without You" as a sort of mask. Like how people laugh at funerals.
Just an FYI- I don’t know if this is was already mentioned on a previous episode by either you, Clark, or someone in the comments. But Haley Mia was on the voice US and came in third couple years back at 13 years old. And Jordan Anthony was a finalist on the voice kids Australia, coming in fourth place, when he was 14 years old..
CLARK BECKHAM FOR KATY’S REPLACEMENT!!! 🙌🏻
Clark I usually agree with you but Abi gave me complete body chills .. when she came out from behind the piano with that big note it was so so well done. Quintavius does those up and down runs …uppp … down.. over and over and he was all over the place. The only thing I didn’t like about Abis performance is the background singers. They should have sung softer and let her lead.. because there were times when they couldn’t follow her lead and sang over her. It wasn’t her missing notes as much as them not following her lead.. and trying to sing straight melody when she was adlibbing. Also they should have let her sing the last part by herself.. That was not on Abi. I felt she took us to church and could be a worship leader. She had even Katie who said she was her favorite. She was moved. Many were moved.. I think it you may be being hyper critical about her and didn’t realize it was the back up singers that made her sound off in any place that the song did. As a former platform worship Leader myself, they did the worst thing by not following her.
You might have given me the answer I didn't have because I thought she had gone off key when she belted.
I think it was a rough night for most
Clark! I'm a new subscriber I love your content, plus at the time of this comment.. your at 78.8k subscribers!
If you reach 79K subs I would like you to perform. Also it would be fun, in the future if you could get some interviews with previous Idol contestants, from various seasons, if possible.
I Feel Like Your On Point About Jayna She Is Amazing🙌🏿🫶🏿
JAYNA!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Why does the band seem to overpower the singers as soon as they get to Top 24 at Disney? It's like this is where it becomes a mess. :) There were definitely nice moments though, too.
Conspiracy theory: they do it on purpose to see who has the chops and pipes to still command the stage. Because it happens every year! Frustrating for the viewer.
@@jenjohn3590 Interesting take. It's possible. :)
If you listen online with earbuds it's easier to hear vocals.
@@libertyna933 Thanks, I appreciate it!
I believe this is why some didn’t enjoy Abi .. she was fantastic and I was able to see right away that any misses were them over powering her vocals. She was adlibbing and they were not following her. Just singing what they wanted.
I agreed with everything you said.
If you listen to Kayko's recorded version of his song. It is intended to be a rock ballad.
Personal faves were abi, mckenna, will, hailey and nya with an HM to jayna
So many good singers this season, I give up to choose!!!
I feel like yesterday’s lineup was heavily stacked compared to tonight’s
❤ziggy, missed
At the beginning before it gets dark there are so very many items and things in the background that compete for the audience’s attention of the person on the stage whos singing. They look so small with the super high ceiling above them and all the clutter around them. I think thats such an unfair disadvantage. I mean really, who can compete with the Hawaiian ocean and sky? And the random paddle boarders? Really??
Spot on assessment of kakos performance
It did feel odd to have Abi sing Oceans - like in the moment when everyone is cheering - normally it is an audience worshiping the Lord and in this case, the focus was on her. I've seen others use Oceans before on the voice - it just felt odd this time. Her voice is gorgeous though.
I feel that the Christian contestants were worshiping. Lionel said it was them loving her but the raising hands etc wasn’t that. Had I not been driving while listening I would have been right there worshiping with her. Many contestants this year are believers.
@@Chey60This song is only meaningful to certain brands of Christianity. If this song was performed at my church, the response would be...polite.
@@AllGreyEverything to each their own. That’s why there are different churches and denominations. I’m a lover of contemporary Christian worship songs that sing to God not just about Him. She did a great job with that
@@Chey60 huh, strange, I thought I replied but don't see it so forgive me if I'm repeating... basically, I've lead worship with this song before and have sung as an artist (though classically, so different genre)... I love this song so much, I would have had a hard time being in front of an audience knowing they were cheering me instead of the Lord. That's the part that was hard for me to watch. I'm sure she didn't anticipate how it would play out - she just seemed more performance oriented in the moment (which anyone would being that she's at that moment, competing) ... she had to think about choreography, getting up from the keyboard, walking around stage etc...I'm sure others who are Believers were worshiping along. Not necessarily saying she shouldn't have sung it - again, maybe if she had felt more connected to it, it would have been different for me. I just remember having that feeling that it felt odd.
It does seem like more Christians than usual are on the show this year, it's refreshing! I stand by what I said earlier; that she has a beautiful and special voice and ability to sing. Praying for her to have the chance to rest her voice and get back to the level of her audition as she mentioned with Tori. Get in the zone and have a wonderful next performance.
♥
CHANNEL IDEA: Oh man, can I make one suggestion for the channel? I need to talk about how you would love to be a judge on Idol, dream job. But what if you started using the channel rather than recap and reactions, more as a judging panel? Like maybe have some guests each week that you talk through things with? Especially former Idol alum. Two things that reminds me of.... Melinda Doolittle & Michael Slezak... And also the way Terrell grew his channel by simply turning it into a show. He used to do reactions to videos, but it's evolved. I would love to see you have a musical conversation with peers.
Your question about why they put Mia first - since Tori Kelly was highlighted and said she was a lot like her gave Tori a spotlight right at the beginning.
Totally agreed about Kayko - great story then felt like it fell flat
At 79,000 subscribers, I'd love to hear you sing "Every Breath You Take," like you did in Season 14.
I want a demo of mixed voice - I don't get how people recognize when it is being used.
Julia just needs a stylist. She is tremendous!
Honestly I thought the song choices were terrible and did the singers no favors. Did they choose their own songs or were they chosen for them?
They chose their own. There is no way they’d have Kayko do another original
I agree. Tonight’s contestants were all on another level than last night’s.
Clark, I felt the same way about Abi. After her audition I was expecting something more. This fell short for me too without my being able to articulate exactly why. So you're not alone on this.
It was the loud background singers.. she was trying to lead and they are leading..
I agree about McKenna’s performance. But I don’t think it is about the arrangement. Even the original song has drums and electric guitars kicking in from the second verse. I think it is about the choice to change the melody and not taking the risks to have those very low notes and those belting notes and falsettos like the original. That is what makes the original sound great.
Quantavious was AMAZING!!
I'm with you on McKenna's performance, as I was obsessed with Brandi Carlisle's version of that song at one point (the way her voice cracks!)....I was so excited to hear McKenna do that song, but thought it sounded off right away. The performance was still good just because it was her. The ex-football player guy that, for the life of me, I can never remember his name, I think he's "good" at piano ballads, but even those don't come close to the talent the other contestants have. He comes off like (at the risk of sounding like Simon Cowell) a bit karaoke. Singing is something he's good at, but hasn't been some big passion of his, so maybe that gets in my head too much, because it seems like he's just trying singing out only because his football career had to end. Loved loved loved Jayna!!! Her voice, her performance, her beautiful confidence shines without the fake over-confident attitude like many diva wannabes out there. She already looks and sounds like a star!! Julia - I freaking love this chick's voice and she is incredibly likeable, but for some reason, this was the performance that I felt like I was alone in thinking she could do so much better. I didn't like the voice changes, they seemed a bit weird and out of place somehow...like things sounded all over the place....but what do I know. Although I have to say what bothered me the most was her lack of emotion (in my opinion). During a close up, all I thought was "her eyes look dead!" - completely void of life and emotion. That's all I could focus on after that. But I know she's amazing and looking forward to hearing lots more from her. I didn't see last night's episode yet, so no idea who went home. Gotta go watch! Thanks for the great updates Clark!!!
Re: Abi Carter and Oceans, I think the main issue is that song requires time and space to allow the emotional payoff to land correctly. This arrangement leaned into the parts that would highlight her voice and in doing so made the lyrics feel less important than we’re used to hearing with that song.
Clark, you are not alone…I was thinking almost the exact same thoughts about Abi. Thanks for sharing what you were thinking!
I’m with you on your outlook !! lol
What is the time frame from auditions to live shows? How long was it from final audition to Hollywood week to Hawaii?
Personally I really liked the beginning and the end of Abi's performance, but it lost me a bit in the middle and to me the song didn't fit the vibe (admittedly I'm not Christian, perhaps I would have felt more connected to the song if I was) of Hawaii (not helped of course by the summery happy blossom piano, which did fit the Hawaii-setting, but not the songs that used it at all). Personally I did like Kayko a lot though, even if he wasn't at his best vocally, but admittedly I also do find him really cute and I love his songwriting so much that in my head I'm already casting the non-existing musical I feel like he should write. My favorite though was Will Moseley, who I haven't really found interesting before. Jayna and Julia and a few others impressed more vocally, but Will was just so comfortable to listen to, it felt so effortless and natural. And the song choice reminded me of Oliver Steele's choice in Hawaii last year in that it's not the most obvious song choice in that it's not that flashy and has a very laidback vibe, but then it's sung by someone that seems so comfortable in it and just makes it work brilliantly.
Idc what yall think. But i love the props n celebration of the Hawaiian culture. Love that some of them wore flowers too! Theyre in Hawaii. Let the stage look fun. Yall are just not used to seeing something different. Lol.
Been a few years since I stopped by the channel. Hope all is well Clark! I agree. Tori Kelly replaces Katy and I love that!
Has anyone noticed the trend of singers going by their first and middle names (not using their last names)?
You never talked about Tori!! I also wasn’t into abi’s either! I’m glad it wasn’t just me. Couldn’t say why. Thanks for always saying your truth
If you hit your target number of subscribers, I want you to sing the story by Brandi Carlisle. That was just a tease!
The two female black singers the best. I love the orignal song the piano guy sang about his mother but didnt always hit the notes.
Listen !! When you broke down KB with too much sauce . I’d agree .. she definitely deserves to be there top 5 .. but she needs to Breakout that shell . Your gifted observation is spot on!!
Ok. I subscribed...79K and you sing a song.
Hey Clark, I’m curious. Do you vote for contestants, or would that make you feel conflicted?
Agree on Kayko. Hope Kayko sees your comments. Will help him
I'm not the only one who thought it looked like a bar??
I agree with you about Abi
How about you cover The Voice too 😀
Based on stats…it looks like the casualties of this group will be Blake and Hailey…but Jordan and Jayna are also vulnerable with an outside chance of Nya…Quintavious could also go if something surprising happened…the rest should be pretty safe based on stats and past edits…
Blake was so horrid…
Hahaha the mini bar for Kayko lol and it was way too high. He’s a short guy. Help him out by lowering that piano!
Totally agree the band drowned out MkEnna’s low voice parts. Great episode, Clark!
Where is Ziggy's performance?
79k you gotta sing " count em" Brandon Lake.
If you get 79K go live with Q&A
People saying Abi had a better performance than Quintavious is wild lol 😂😂😂😂
I might be a bit crazy, but around Will’s review, your audio went off ahead, I think) by like a frame or 2. It seemed barely off, only barely. I used to edit a lot of videos so I’m likely to see things that I’m not even looking for.
i thought quintavious was incredible but I do disagree that it was the best vocal of the season because it sounded like he was struggling a bit at the top of his range. He's a close second right behind Jayna for me, who I thought gave a 15/10 job across both nights!
Just suscribed
Fun fact: Will Moseley lives in the same as the infamous ANGELA DEEM from 90 DAY FIANCE.
This season reminds me of old Idol days.. Lasts years contestants were Artists. .. Jayna Elise really demonstrates that
.People like Olivia or Emma or Caroline and my #1 Kearya would be in the lead with a few others this year...
all I got to say is…SONG CHOICE…please…LAWD PLEASE…give these contestants the strength to sing songs they can sing 😭💀💀💀💀
Just curious...Does AI pay for all family members to take the trip to Hawaii?
No, only the contestants get a flight , room and board and food. Families have to pay 100% for themselves.
@@thegirltwirl Thanks
I love will
MC KENNA BREINHOLT 👍
You aren't alone, Clark. I agreed on all, including Abi.
You aren’t alone about Abi.
Kayko did nothing for me last night. Like you said, I was expecting something heartbreaking, but I didn't feel anything when he sang last night. I know this opinion won't be popular, but I wish he'd do some covers, and not just original songs. Abi was my favorite of the night, tho. Her voice is just beautiful, and I was captivated during the entire song.
Kayko missed the side of the barn by a lot. Love Abi too.
I agree with almost all your reviews, including Abi and Mckenna's, word by word (not alone in those). Just Hailey Mia's review wasn't the same for me. Didn't click with me, don't think it showcased the best of her, didn't move me as her performances on The Voice did, even though she's grown vocally, since. I feel there are songs in which she shines so much more and also that she was more emotionally engaged back then. Strong factor, though: she had Kelly Clarkson as a coach at that time. Kelly knows how to coach and how to pick a song! For 79K, could you react to The Voice Maddie and Nadège's battle? I'd also love if you'd do The Voice Breakdown, think it'd be just as watched and as successful.
Please subscribe to him!!!!!
Disagree about KB, I thought she was quite incredible. And I generally am not into that kind of singing, but she is something special and I guess I'm in the old school idol of the OG few seasons, but I always prefer contestants that make moments of the song which she did, rather than most winners since 2018 that just put on weekly jam sessions.
I’d love for you to rank every AI winner
I thought tonight’s contestants were the outstanding and were in a different league than last night’s.
Tori or Jelly Roll would be amazing judges. Both were awesome
79,000 some kind of song from you
