  • The Australian soprano sings Mimi's big aria from Act I in this broadcast performance (in English) of Puccini's "La bohème" from Covent Garden in 1956 under the baton of Rafael Kubelík. (Kubelík and Morison would marry in 1963.)
Morison's artistry has impressed me ever since I heard her sing Marie in Colin Davis' "L'enfance du Christ" and the many wonderful Gilbert & Sullivan recordings under Malcolm Sargent. Hopefully, more performances from Covent Garden will surface as well as her singing of Ann Trulove in Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress" from the Edinburgh Festival in 1953. (A stellar cast in that British premiere of Stravinsky's opera!) She also performed the Mother in Menotti's "Amahl and the Night Visitors".

Wonderful. Sometimes she sounds a lot like Delcina Stevenson.
