Did you put a clear coat back on or just leave with single stage paint? How is it holding up to temp and sunlight? I worry about pealing is why asking..

I didn't apply clear coat MrStan . The paint job stayed really well with no peeling after being through 3 Canadian winters! My most recent video uploaded i refinish aluminum rims and apply clear coat ; here's the link : ruclips.net/video/Qbmx1IQN1Ag/видео.html

I want one of those sandblasters now. Etching primer helps to hide imperfections. Its my go to.

For any of us that drive old vehicles .... we just try to keep them looking good ....... a lot of us can't afford the vehicles we want and we certainly can't afford being raped at body shops and mechanical shops to have work done .... I have worked 40 plus years in the automotive industry in Toronto and the GTA and have learned enough to order parts and do it myself .... Cheers to backyardmech for doing and being just that ....

No way I could tolerate all the wire brushing, spraying, wiping, chipping and sanding. A heftier sandblaster, (with good flow at 125 psi), and the wheels would be ready for prime/paint way quicker and easier. And tires do fine with a sandblaster with a bit of care. Tape off the tires with wide masking tape, prime and paint and you're done.

have some (2015 silverado/tahoe rims 20x9 polished finish) with some oxidation/hazing on the aluminum face it looks like clear coat damage... eny thoughts on how to repair them? Do I just polish them? I see allot of people remove the clear coat sand them with different sand paper grits and then polish them?

  • @frankn4skeen

Rustoleum and all the paint you get in stores are mainly ACRYLIC, and they never really cure. The only type of paint you may use is some sort of polyurethane (2 component paint). The worst with acrylic is that when it just ever so slightly heats up (sun, or any other source of heat) it becomes tacky again.
I've ruined quite a few items with acrylic paint in the past, ranging from rims ... to guitars.
I've learned my lesson, now it's polyurethane or nothing.

You’re gonna be stuck in the same boat I was, and be forced to spend 4 hours per wheel sanding then down the old fashioned way. Some stock wheels are worth keeping, and I always refinish my stock set so I can have nice stock rims on the car should I ever sell it. This is why a good few the commentors below likely have cars ranked as Fair on KBB while my cars retain an Excellent rating.

If that's ur best. Just pay some one that has the experience and pride to do something right cause I suck at what u touch. I can just see it house. I bet your wife does not ask nothing from you to do around the house. Because there is a thing called pride when one does something and you need to go back to school and register in class 101 which teaches us in having integrity and pride when doing anything.
