    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  3 дня назад +1

      Thanks!
      As far as getting a hostler shift on a full-time basis, I tried to answer it here:
      ruclips.net/video/N13WTPqpUMo/видео.htmlsi=tt-rosbEPBLzBTS0
      Keep in mind, the most I’ve ever gotten one for is a month but usually it’s for a night or two here and there. Best way to get your foot in the door is through replying to spot capacity emails:
      ruclips.net/video/LEavVqKmg3Y/видео.htmlsi=pvhkxu95mhlSBHLU
      Another thing to keep in mind is that like everything with Amazon, the hostler shift is constantly evolving. Here are some recent changes they’ve made to it. I’m not sure if these changes are “here to stay” as they ve seen them offering their normal rates through spot capacity since I made this video:

      Thank you!
      The grade matters to me a lot because (fortunately/unfortunately) I am a perfectionist. It definitely is a blessing and a curse.
      If your grade drops below a 98%, you lose early access and do not see great loads. It definitely made a difference in 2022-2023 however has made very little difference so far in 2024.
      Keeping up with your grade is exhausting because Amazon will mark you down for things for problems they create. Sometimes, their app goes down and rather than saying “we understand you weren’t using app because the app was down”, they make you prove the app was down. Your grade then becomes dependent on your ability to present evidence proving their app was down. A lot of people can’t stand this and give up which I not only understand but fully support. The process is unbearable at times.
      It’s like if I said “prove to me you we wearing socks last Wednesday”. You know you were wearing them, but can you prove it?
      The rates come together by stringing together 3-5 little loads each night. IMO, Amazon does not pay great for OTR, that is why I’m usually around here to these little local runs.

    Hey Todd!
    Thanks again for another great video! I'm waiting on my 180 days and maybe I'll see you around Otay! I've been a Teacher for 24 years, so I can relate to what you're saying about career changes (always wanted to be a trucker). I'm wondering what mileage you get? I think its around 9 mpg loaded, 12 bobtail mpg with a single axle day cab (wondering if it's worth the trade off)? Also, are most amazon runs in SoCal at night? Did you go to Bama (I went to Tenn, but always loved the rival)?
    Jason

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  5 месяцев назад +1

      Jason:
      Stats on my truck - 2016 Freightliner Cascadia, DD15, automatic.
      My MPG is as follows
      12-13 bobtail
      7.5-9 empty trailer OR Amazon loaded trailer (they’re usually around 10K lbs)
      6-6.5 45K lbs
      What kills my MPG the most is going to spots like Poway (DSD8). You’ve got two options:
      67 - steep grade, couple of lights
      Scrips Poway - ton of lights
      I almost always go Scripps/Poway but depending on which light sequence I get into, the distance from the 15 to the actual site can eat up anywhere between 1-4 gallons of fuel.
      I notice better fuel economy going to LA on the 5 than I do going to Ontario on the 15 because the 5 has fewer rolling hills.
      I prefer running at night, I feel like their offers are better and I can get more work done. In the middle of the night I can hit Ontario in about two hours whereas at 7:00AM, the same trip is closer to four hours.
      I went to the University of Colorado but inherited my love of all things Bama from my dad, he is from there. Grew up watching the Tide and if I’m being honest, they’ve been easy to root for. I’m gonna miss Nick Saban a lot.
      Career changes are interesting. I went from being the “captain of the ship” to the “new guy”. It has been humbling at times, but with pharmacy school I was in a rush. Rushing to finish, rushing to get a job, rushing to …………. I never took in the moments of not knowing something. With trucking, I took it all in. Not saying I’m great at backing, but I love to reminisce on when I didn’t know how to back, at all. It makes me appreciate when I can get into a tight spot that much more. On a daily basis I find myself thinking “two years ago I wouldn’t have been able to do this”. I know it sounds small, but it’s little things like this I find joy in.

      10.5 hours
      I left my house at 8:00PM and was back home at 6:30PM.
      I booked that last load around 3:00AM and they cancelled it almost immediately but it was within 2 hours of start time so it qualified for the TONU.

      I booked a load going from BP back to Chino but they canceled it five minutes after I booked it. Because it was less than 2 hours before the loads started, it paid $175 TONU. Basically, $175 to eat tacos 😜
      I waited a little bit longer to try and get something else but then ended up heading home empty to try and avoid the brunt of the storm.

    I'm brand new to this and learning stuff on YT everyday. So I have a question. Somebody UNconfuse me here. At 7:25 it looks like it's saying it'll take over 3 and a half hours to travel only 55 miles in the wee hours of the morning. It should be maybe an hour and a half at worst, right?? But I'm also noticing that the time differential of 145 to 450 doesn't match up with the 3h 36m up in the right hand corner. So clearly I don't know how to read what I'm reading. A lil help somebody..?

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Месяц назад +1

      Welcome, glad you’re here.
      Amazon is notorious for blocking out too much time for their loads which ultimately is a good thing but also comes with some unintended consequences.
      The good:
      If they didn’t give you enough time, it would appear you were late and would ultimately affect your on-time performance metric.
      I went back and reviewed this load, here is how it was scheduled:
      CNO5 1:45 ➡️ DFX9 3:48 ➡️ LAX5 4:50
      Here is how I actually ran it:
      CNO5 1:10 ➡️ DFX9 2:16 ➡️ LAX5 2:57
      The unintended consequence(s):
      Even though I knew throughout the entire trip I would be done early, I am an ineligible driver to book my next load until I’m completely done with this load. Say they dropped a great load leaving LAX5 supposed to start at 3:15, even though I know I’ll be right there and will be early to it, I’m technically blocked out until 4:50. Once I’m done, I can book it but booking it before I’m “done” can be problematic.
      ruclips.net/video/-i2Lpmzje3k/видео.htmlsi=3RWqx-WOUGsbzVxU
      Your question is great, paying attention to these small things is crucial to being successful with Amazon. If you have any more, let me know, I’ll always respond.

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Месяц назад +1

      Just realized there was a second part to your question
      1:45➡️4:50 ≠ 3H:36M
      They are anticipating you arriving to final stop at 4:50 and then needing extra time to unhook/safety inspect trailer. The key thing is that you arrive by 4:50, but they will add around 20-30 minutes to account for these steps.
      Sorry I missed it the first time.

    Can I start my 180 days wait period with out insurance or mc number? Want to start but don’t now what to do for those 6 moths

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  2 месяца назад +1

      Your authority doesn’t go “active” until your insurance is active.
      A mistake I made when I started was getting my DOT/MC numbers and thinking I had my authority. The FMCSA will issue you your numbers right now but until you have insurance, you’re not accumulating time. I thought I had found the ultimate loophole and waited about four months before I got insurance, only to find out I was wrong.
      Those six months are difficult for everyone, I’m not suggesting any of these but I’ve “heard” people talk about:
      Starting a medical/courier business on paper with your existing car, wouldn’t cost a lot to insure and would require a DOT number (authority). At the six month point, add on a box truck/semi and increase insurance minimums to what Amazon requires. My hesitation in mentioning this is, I’ve only “heard” about it and have zero first hand experience with it, couldn’t say if it would even work.
      Another alternative would be to seek out an ethical company to lease onto. These relationships can be tricky and are sometimes fraudulent, I made a video about what to look out for:
      ruclips.net/video/Doy8hKwBv_8/видео.htmlsi=jmMrKdZWNJW0wmTc
      I definitely think getting an insurance quote is a great place to start, you’d hate to put in all this work only to find out your required insurance is going to set you back $100K/year (I know two people who were quoted this much☹️). Year 1 is the hardest but things really opened up for me in year 2, more brokers are willing to work with you and insurance goes way down (Y1 $40K/year, Y2 $13K/year, Y3 $11K/year)

      @STATTrucking  5 месяцев назад +8

      There’s no course for sell here, in fact, I’m not selling anything. I originally started this channel as a generic trucking vlog but quickly realized I enjoyed Amazon and also realized there are many nuanced steps to being successful with them. I never really intended to have a “All About Amazon Trucking” channel but sometimes the niche picks you, not the other way around.
      In no way do I want to seem like I’m more knowledgeable than a $1400 course, but if I were to offer my free advice:
      Sign up - they require 180 days
      Before you book your first load, spend 1-2 weeks studying load board in your area, get a feel for things
      Pay attention to spot capacity:
      ruclips.net/video/LEavVqKmg3Y/видео.htmlsi=qTCB0EM-HbXCiHKN
      Make your Amazon grade your priority, without the grade, the money will never come
      There’s never a good time to get into trucking. Right now, equipment is cheap but rates are down. When rates go back up, so will equipment prices. Specific to Amazon, 2024 has started off very slow. I tried to cover it here:
      ruclips.net/video/gOdoR1RvKvY/видео.htmlsi=VQVZBC7u_vQK57R7
      Recently, it has picked back up in my area for 53’ equipment. I try to include all pertinent info (rates) in my videos so people have an idea of what to expect and I’m constantly creating videos, I’m usually about 7-10 days behind with edits/posting, in other words, what I recorded last night you will see in about a week. I made it this far without a course or service and believe anyone can do it. Could there be something I am missing? Of course!!
      I have zero ego in this trucking/RUclips thing. I seek out the stuff I don’t know and don’t really care if I look stupid in saying “I didn’t know this, I’m sharing it with you so you don’t do what I did”.
      My absolute best advice - deal with Amazon directly, do not put an intermediary (broker, dispatcher, etc) between you and them. These relationships are overwhelming non-transparent and full of scams. Going to Reddit and searching “Amazon Relay Scam” is a never ending rabbit hole.
      I don’t want the pressure of telling you to either do/don’t do it, but I will promise to keep showing you what I do and how I do it.
      👊🏻🍻

      @@STATTrucking they want 180 days of what? 180 days with DOT # and being signed up with them at the same time?
      Do they look at when you started your DOT. (I activated mine in Oct 23, 7 mos ago, but I didn't activate my MC # which would have required me to pay out $10k over that 7 mos.) I am now ready to pay the insurance & activate my MC#.
      In other words do they want 180 days of driving during that time.
      Can I just sign up with just my DOT# or do I need to have insurance and an active MC #. Or do i have to wait another 180 days to get on with them and must that 180 days have driving time along with it.
      As you can tell I'm not getting it. 😮😊
