My old man worked as an officer in barlinie at the time Ferris was incarcerated. My dad said he was very polite, even left a thank you letter in his cell when he got released.
What he's saying about screws is the same for police in Glasgow. You have an Irish name or come from a predominately Catholic scheme (not completely segregated like Belfast, but some housing schemes are known as green or blue), you're always going to have a harder time from police, who're nearly always protestants. It's like they recruited straight from the Orange or Masonic Halls.

A heard most of the cons in barlinnie were scared of slasher and his henchmen. When one day a con slashed him then a few days later he opend the cons door with his henchmen at his side and told the con "ok then so you want to play it this way do you? Right then there will be no report or anything like that but its only fair that i get my own back isnt it" so he told the 2 or 3 heavy big 6 footers to put the con onto the ground and to hold him down so he couldnt move his head even half an inch . So thats exactly what the two big screws did, 2 holding him down and 1 holding his head strait, then slasher opend up his razor and slashed the guy from his hair line strait down to his chin, as going into his kneck is very very dangerous as it can kill some one! A think slasher said "so is that us the same now or words like that" and the guy said aye. But slasher was obviously not right in the head to go about a jail acting like that. And for so long! A thought he worked in peterhead as well when it was a jail that took all the men other jails couldnt handle. The thing was even as a young boy at age 12 or maybe younger. I always thought how can jails like barlinnie, perth, saughton, craiginchess, like all the big old jails not handle men like that? Then i heard some one say "off course they can and would easy, but its not just about dragging some one down to the digger, its what do you do with them as they dont want to keep them locked up for 23 hours a day for at least 15 to 25, 30 years. Becouse perth is huge like barlinnie with 5 main halls or did have in the late 1980s and saughton was big with 4 halls, perth and barlinnie could easily have turn a hall into a 23 hour lock up hall. Peterhead isnt that big or wasnt that big, it had 1 main hall, then 2 smaller halls next to the big main hall like they had in perth. But alot of men thought perth was a bit bigger than barlinnie. So thats why they sent them to peterhead, it was just a dumping ground and becouse it was so far away up at aberdeen right next to the north see. Its just the old big jails didnt want them. And peterhead was a hard place in the 1970s and 1980s i think till it became a beasts jail. A dont even think they had a protection hall.
I was in front of Gallagher and refused to call him sir and he said double that man up and get him out of here.. Bootsy and another dirty big screw punched me in the guts and kidneys and threw me out of his office backwards.. 😂😂
Gallagher did slash Brodie. His co-accused Archie Stein was far more dangerous, he killed a Glasgow villain and went on to escape from Barlinnie in amazing style along with Jim Steele the brother of Joe Steele who in his own right was what the Steele's stood for. His Dad was a Glaswegian legend who grafted with Arthur Thompson and the Krays. The Steele's were absolute Glasgow criminal royalty. The family were Gorbals related too. Johnaboy Steele is a poet, a man who has made his name in literary circles since his criminal days of woe. He is incredibly truthful.
