I am still pissed off that I missed that VH show at the memorial coliseum. I got to see 1984 and that was it... :-( but at least I got to see one actual VH show. :-)
My favorite EVH generosity story is how he gave Dweezil Zappa a guitar at the age of 12. Dweezil painted it, has changed the neck, the electronics, and carried it around without a case, even dropped it from a moving vehicle onto the street. The takeaway for me is that his emotions aren't tied up in the object, but in the relationship.
I don’t know how any well-adjusted person could separate the latter from the former!? Supposing what you described is true. I never heard any stories about the damage, or the dropping of the guitar. But as for the modifications, kids brains aren’t really fully formed before the age of 25 anyway. Some are a little more sophisticated at an earlier age, as I don’t think a lot of us would have messed with the guitar at all. But since he knew Eddie well, he probably never really appreciated the gravity of having such a guitar. 🤘🏻🎸🇺🇸
If I had it, I would strip it to natural finish and display the beauty under the skin of the ESP Custom Shop and then add 1k usd to the price because it's AMAZING now. :-) A person that is good with finishes could probably just bring it back down to the original paint again and polish it up. ESP Custom Shop guitars are like PRS expensive (see Ohmura's Pink Monster) so it's reasonable to me that guitar could actually be worth more if you get the *cUsToM pAiNt bY fAmOuS gUy* off of it.
I once got in a brief argument with a guy about removing the one of the original (failing) pots on his vintage strat and putting in a newer one, to which he accused me of "butchering" the guitar as a solution to the issue. His whole collection was vintage guitars and dude swore by keeping all the original parts in his guitars. I got a good laugh out of him.
Lol.. I’d seen that OJ ESP floating Reverb. Figured it’d make one of these episodes eventually. Fugly guitar… a shame it had to happen to a custom shop ESP
They said that he "possibly" recorded VH3 with it. Meaning that 99.9999% chance he recorded the album with modded Marshalls and possibly an SLO. He "possibly" did a lot of things that can never be proven but some person is still going to try to make some $$$ off it. Fluff is right. Huge probability that if EVH or Van Halen Inc. owned that amp it got shipped to his tech, unboxed, stacked up with the minimum of 20 heads on stage that were never turned on. The stuff he played live would have been shock mounted in a rack and would not be "road worn".
Omg that’s funny! I’m sure who plays it will “slash” their way thru the fretboard. Ya know it’s funny. I’ve seen worse guitars from a custom shop. Those ESP’s are “killers”(pun and no pun intended) and I think it is spec’d out good!
For frame of reference on the 1955 Fender pot. I bought a period-correct replacement tone pot for my 1967 Strat and it was less than $75. It had, also, not been used before. I wouldn't expect to pay even half of the $329 asking price for a used 1955 pot.
Ive had 3 of the hm-2 backpacks over the last 10-15 years. Ive sold them from $600-$1100 plus ship. Haven’t seen one (i haven’t been actively looking) in about 3-4 years.
I’ve seen a lot of upgraded guitars that people expect to recover the upgrades when they sell them. I’ve bought several MIM Fenders and similar guitars that I may have picked up for $300 and put another $300-400 into. I’ve made some great players and got a lot of use out of them but if you go to sell them they’re still a $300 guitar. I’ve always found you’re better off holding on to the original parts and putting one back to stock when you sell it and use the parts for the next project.
Years and years ago I worked with a guy I barely talked to or barely knew.I heard he was a good guitarist and mentioned to a guy I was OK and hoped to one day be "good".Well a while later the guitarist guy walked up to me and said I heard you play what do you have?I said I have a Peavey Mystic I got new when I was young and I just bought a Taylor 700 series a couple weeks ago.He looked at me and said"I deserve that Taylor you should have to give me that and take my Yamaha".He wasn't joking.Wow never said another word to him.Reminds me of the Bogner guy.
Listing 3: "only a good home" Is he for real? I would rather that amp be in the hands of someone who is throughly mediocre than have it sitting in a flight case. Any music is better than none. Fluff, the actual old fender neck stamps are easy to tell from reproductions by the stamping die most of the time. they did start with a dash from like late 56 to late 57 or so. There are some fakes that are extremely close though, but i have never seen a fake with the dash stamp, actually.
In fairness to that 3rd listing, they probably meant a "Legit Player" meaning the amp won't be sitting in a box and it'll actually be used by whoever buys it
As a collector of pre-cbs fenders that pot is a bit less ridiculous than you may think. I mean, it’s exactly as ridiculous as you think at the same time :) but if you have an all original $20k guitar and it just need one other vintage component to make it 100% period correct...ya know that could be tempting.
The 5 - digit serial numbers were preceded by a dash from late 1956 to early 1958 and between late 1957 and late 1958 some neck plates were double stamped, 6 digits outside and 5 digits with dash (different number) on the underside.
I took everything off my 5150 block letter back in 96 when I got it, lost the preamp plate, put the grill back on the back and didn't even know Eddie did that. Hmmm. Maybe I got mine from Ed.
I can just see Josh's next video: "I've got the bag..."
🎵 He's got the bag!🎵
😂😂😂
Honestly, if Boss offered that merch for like 30 bucks people would buy them all day long, me included.
That ESP has been floating around Reverb for quite a while now.
Joshua at JHS Pedals would buy the Back Pack and talk about it in one of his video's "He Has the Bag"
He probably already did, and is having Nick write the jingle
"I don't have this bookbag, am I ever going to survive?"
That was my thoughts

That's cause eddie was a superb human being! Never really liked VH but could never deny the fact that he was a phenomenal player and great guy!
Filled his garage up with stuff I believe
Because he was Jerry’s hero.
