Just a small critique and music history lesson. They are not typical 80s they are the band that made the entire 80s decade.

Van Halen isn't only the guy who plays his guitar very fast. It's also his brother (Alex) who also plays the drums very fast. The best proof is the intro of "Hot for teacher".

I've always been partial to Alex's rib-rattling drums on this song. Also, Michael Anthony's underrated solid bass playing and harmony vocals. The outro is 2 minutes of bombastic rock unlike any other VH song. I've heard it 5,000 times since it came out in 1981...40 yrs and never tire of this one song.

The best guitar intro and the best guitar outro of any song ever imo

EVH - the very best! At least we were alive during the Mighty Van Halen years because there will never be another band like them. Best front man, Greatest guitarist, killer vocals, awesome drumming. I repeat - never again!

I've always thought Morello was influenced by Ed. The palm scratching on Atomic Punk, tap drumming on Mean Street, the oddball noises with whammy bar and harmonics. Ed didn't necessarily use it as a main part of the rhythm of the song but more intermittently.

Dave grew up rich. Shows how awesome of a lyricist performer he was that you thought the otherwise. A big part of the magic of VH was Dave's ability to write lyrics for difficult songs and phrasing. Other magic was Ed's relationship with Alex, brother on drums., Mike's harmony vocals, (which Ed grew tired of hearing about and not receiving the same credit for backing harmony, eventually tossing Mike out of the band), and Alex's drumming itself.

Tom Morello is amazing! That said, he and every other rock guitar player would be playing old Clapton tunes if it wasn't for EVH. There was Hendrix, Edward and SRV.

The intro that you were perplexed over is a slapping technique and not to be confused with tapping (also used in the intro), Eddie's other forte. This tune is a masterpiece, I guarantee you'll revisit when it's beer and billiards time...lol. The VH catalogue is rich, but "Fair Warning" and VH 1 (self-titled) are bar none! Also, check out footage from their 1981 Concert in Oakland CA..I'll forward the link for "Unchained" ruclips.net/video/Cn8APTMyKsg/видео.html ...this band's energy (with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar-afterward) was off the charts. Great reaction! Tom, is a great guitarist, but Eddie is the G O A T, just ask Tom..lol

Eddie Van Halen on the better than average guitar, Alex "Lord of the Skins" Van Halen playing the awesome percussion section as well as backing vocals. Micheal "The Bass Bruiser " Anthony on bass guitar, also teaming up with Alex as the best backing vocals duo of all time. David "Showman Extraordinaire " Lee Roth on lead vocals. Mean Streets is my favorite Van Halen tune.

@@bronzegod8037 taking all things in consideration, he is most likely the greatest electric rock guitarist that has ever lived - period. Better than average does not do EVH justice. I'm a very serious player and amazed at everything he does and on top of that, VH has great music. His creativity is unsurpassed.
