Glen Tipton and K.K. Downing the best twin guitar attack ever! Combined with Rob Halford's incredible vocals is why Priest has always been my favorite Metal band!

HOLY SHIT I WAS AT THIS SHOW!!!!! Day 2 (Sunday, May 29th 1983) was dubbed “Heavy Metal Day,” with Quiet Riot; Mötley Crüe; Ozzy Osbourne; Judas Priest; Triumph, Scorpions; and Van Halen. VAN HALEN set a record $1.5 million to play Day 2 ("Heavy Metal Day") of Apple founder Steve Wozniak's US Festival, the second and final year of the event. It's the most any act has ever been paid for a single performance. The last day the bill was exclusively hard rock bands, and the crowd grew to a stunning 600,000 which was a shock to everyone, not at least the bands themselves.
Didn't The Clash get paid the same amount on the first day ? Not dissing just remembering what I read in Circus magazine back in the day. Great comment bud. ✌️
@@johnnyamaro6643 The Clash headlined the new wave day but were fed up that they were receiving a decidedly un-punky $500,000 when the other day's headliners - David Bowie and Van Halen, were trousering a cool and frankly ludicrous $1.5million. I was at the US Festival. It was super hot out. I am sure Rob Halford (Vocalist) was over-heating like everyone else. But they were one of the Best performers of that day. There were over 300K in the crowd for Metal Day !!!
I was there and, as I recall, all three days of the festival got to around 120 degrees in Glen Helen, out there in the middle of the desert. Think Woodstock without water or shade. The local fire department hosed us down with water cannons to minimize heat stroke casualties. As at Woodstock, crowd control broke down a bit, so no one really knows how many were there. I heard estimates of around a half-million. Most overwhelming concert I ever went to!
I agree with comments about Dreamer/Deceiver. A true golden oldie. Another big one would be Beyond The Realms of Death. That particural tracl captures something really essential, not only in metal but in music in general. Priest played here in Finland about three months ago. That was my 11th time seeing them live. Priest will be back🤘
They used to hang out at a little club called rockers in Phoenix. Met them several times along with Ronnie James Dio. All of them were super cool and bought us rounds of cold beer.

Keep in mind there was likely a lot of drinking going on as well. Bands of that era were no strangers to being drunk on stage. Sometimes absolutely obliterated but could still pull off outstanding performances. Alcohol turns the skin a flush color and is a sign of alcohol sensitivity.

Probably one of the all-time classic Judas Priest songs. One the best live verisons. This day was on Sunday, May 29 (Heavy Metal Day). And the bands that played were: Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions and Van Halen. The reprise festival ran for three days[...] In late May, its first day weather was slightly cooler at 35 °C, but air quality conditions in the region were the worst in four years. The total attendance was reported at 670,000 and the festival still lost $12 million; as Van Halen was reportedly paid $1.5 million dollars to perform. There were two reported deaths
Funny you mentioned multiple songs Aileen. This song was composed by fusing two earlier songs. The main part of the song, including the riffs, came from "Whisky Woman," which was written in 1972 while original Priest singer Al Atkins was still in the band. The softer passage, building up tension for the climaxing ending of the song, came from a song singer Rob Halford had written called "Red Light Lady." K.K. Downing, Glenn Tipton, Rob Halford and Al Atkins are all credited for writing the song. The song's lyrics have been debated by Priest fans. The song seems to focus on a woman who is past her prime, which leads her to drown her sorrows in alcohol when she can't find a man anymore. At first glance, she might seem like the "Victim of Changes," but later in the song, the "I" of the lyrics (a man speaking to the woman) reveals a certain affection for her, and a dissatisfaction because he's lost her and he can't have her back, making him the victim. This has never been cleared up.

"Dreamer, Deceiver/Deceiver" is the song(s) you must hear next...but please do the studio version. Ideally, there is a good lyric video out there with the studio version as the music. In any case, these songs ffg o together, and they will give you a better idea of vocalist Rob Halford's true range and versatility. God bless!!
Love JP and Rob's voice has always been incredible. I would love to hear you react to Geoff Tates voice on his performance of Take Hold of the Flame, you want to talk about range!!
I was listening to this song in about 1985 when I met a Creek/Seminole Indian girl in Tulsa. We got married. Later on, I sent her away with tears in my eyes. I was still listening to this song. I still listen to it now. Got a lot of history with this song.
I remember back in 76' I was hanging at a buddy's house and a mutual friend came over and said, "I just picked this album up!". It was 'Sad Wings of Destiny' - my introduction to Judas Priest. Been a fan since. 'Dreamer/Deciever' from the same album is great: ruclips.net/video/Wvlq1F-X6Ko/видео.html
Yeah, classic Priest. I can see you really like them, and undstandibly so. Live in Memphis 82, songs; Desert Plains and Riding on the Wind are must see! Seriously , this is Priest at their best and why they at the time were referred to as 'Metal Gods' . /,,/ ! Peace // Defenders imo their best album is choc full of metal goodness, a metal symphony from the first note to the last, a perfect album.
A superb yet underrated live song of theirs is Exciter from the Unleashed in the East EP. There's no video for it, just the track but no other version is nearly as epic as that one. Enjoy!
Great reaction! Some other great songs include Beyond the Realms of Death, Blood Red Skies, Hell Bent for Leather, Screaming for Vengeance, and Freewheel Burning. They have a lot of great songs though. Beyond the Realms of Death has one of my favorite guitar solos and a great tone to the guitars, but it's best to listen to the studio version of that song.
Time very well spent watching their whole set at us festival.. Highly recommended. Priest is still putting on a great show, saw them back in April this year, Rob can still make your jaw drop with those high notes at age 70.
Now that you have heard the live version, you need to hear the studio original at some point for the pristine sound and great mix, it is one of the ultimate headphones songs. For more live Fury try Sinner from either Unleashed in the East or the video from Atlanta 1983, both are immense. They have a ton of songs you need to hear, Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
A band I happened across you might like: Primal Fear. A bit like Priest yet they have their own sound. 13 albums under their belt and going strong. Maybe start with When Death Comes Knocking and Along Came the Devil.
I’m hoping for something from the Defenders of the Faith album eventually. The best tracks on there are absolutely incredible: Freewheel Burning Jawbreaker Rock Hard Ride Free The Sentinel The first four tracks of the album all killer from one to the next.
Aileen, I really loved your reaction to this because Rob Halford and the band completely blow my mind in this performance. I first listened to this song on record in like 1978, I was 14 years old. Epic music.
If someone asks to hear their first heavy metal song, this is what I offer them. It is such a definitive metal song, one of my all time favorites of any genre.
Saw them in a small club in their early days. They had enough equipment for a stadium venue. You didn’t hear the music, you felt it. Best live band I’ve seen, and I’ve seen hundreds.
Saw these guys in 1979 as a 19 year old kid at a small venue in frederick Maryland where there were around 400 people there and left me as big fan ever since seeing JUDAS PRIEST 🤘😎
Rob Halford has one of the strongest and highest voices in metal, which, together with his artistic charisma, allows him to perform songs in a very wide vocal range. My childhood was spent listening to his songs :)
Thanks for the great reaction, love your channel! Check out Run of the Mill for a true representation of Rob's range and a really solid performance from the band as a whole.
It's good to drink from the fountain, revisit the legends, remember where we came from... that same year I watched for the first and only time in my life the show of another legend, Van Halen! Still in 1983 I was able to watch the Kiss show playing for the first time in my country in a stadium packed with 40 thousand people. These are wonderful memories that we were able to witness at the birth of this incredible musical style that is Heavy Metal!

Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson were Icons of 80's metal music...
the studio version of dreamer Deceiver is a must absolute must!!
The song they are ending in the beginning of this clip is "Diamonds and Rust " and its definately worth a reaction
Cant wait, this performance is epic. Had suggested it a few times, going to love it
Judging by the thumbnail.....she wasn't expecting that!
I'd love a reaction to Run Of The Mill from Rocka Rolla. Their first album. Criminally overlooked song that really shows all their range.
YES! I rarely see that one mentioned on Priest reaction vids
Run Of The Mill is my favorite deep track. You're right it rarely gets any love or bullets.
This has never been cleared up.
they played this exact song last saturday for 25k people, over 40 years later. and they still killed it. I fucking love Priest.
🤘I WAS AT THIS FESTIVAL ABOUT 50 FEET FROM STAGE THERE WERE 350 THOUSANDS IN ATTENDANCE OVER THE WEEKEND GLAD 4 THESE VIDEOS I WAS QUITE WASTED IT WAS HOT 🔥 IN DEVOR THAT DAY 🤘ed
There's a version of this song from 2005 from the Seminole Hard Rock Arena worth checking out too
"Dreamer, Deceiver/Deceiver" is the song(s) you must hear next...but please do the studio version. Ideally, there is a good lyric video out there with the studio version as the music. In any case, these songs ffg o together, and they will give you a better idea of vocalist Rob Halford's true range and versatility.
God bless!!
So many live performances. You need to check out the studio versions.
It’s so great to get into Judas Priest. They have so many great songs. Your journey into Priest will leave you very happy.
Enjoy!
Such a great song ❤
Great reaction! Some other great songs include Beyond the Realms of Death, Blood Red Skies, Hell Bent for Leather, Screaming for Vengeance, and Freewheel Burning. They have a lot of great songs though. Beyond the Realms of Death has one of my favorite guitar solos and a great tone to the guitars, but it's best to listen to the studio version of that song.
Seen em twice last month, about 15 times in life , as long as they keep coming I’ll keep going , catalogue is endless
The rest of they're set is epic also 😎
Time very well spent watching their whole set at us festival.. Highly recommended. Priest is still putting on a great show, saw them back in April this year, Rob can still make your jaw drop with those high notes at age 70.
Another great reaction girl, keep up the good work.
Sorry I missed the live stream. Hello from Detroit.
BURNING WITCHES.. 🔥SAVE ME...LIVE IN ZURICH AM 27.05.2017.🔥
This was their pinnacle performance. I am SO happy you experienced this. It hit me exactly the same way.
I think the best live metal album is Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East 🤘
Screaming for veangance is just amazing album. You won't be able to sit still with that one! 🎸
Idk, I think this version is better than the original
A band I happened across you might like: Primal Fear. A bit like Priest yet they have their own sound. 13 albums under their belt and going strong. Maybe start with When Death Comes Knocking and Along Came the Devil.
I’m hoping for something from the Defenders of the Faith album eventually. The best tracks on there are absolutely incredible:
Freewheel Burning
Jawbreaker
Rock Hard Ride Free
The Sentinel
The first four tracks of the album all killer from one to the next.
I've watched several of the songs from that performance many times and feel the same way. Thanks for the great review.
Who says metal can't move one to tears? A powerful and moving masterpiece.
"SCREAMIN' IN THE NIGHT" - Krokus
- Like DIO - But Harder Bite
Saw them in a small club in their early days. They had enough equipment for a stadium venue. You didn’t hear the music, you felt it. Best live band I’ve seen, and I’ve seen hundreds.
Saw these guys in 1979 as a 19 year old kid at a small venue in frederick Maryland where there were around 400 people there and left me as big fan ever since seeing
JUDAS PRIEST 🤘😎
The Rob Halford scream is #1
Born and bred in Birmingham, England where "The Priest " come from....lucky enough to have been around when they were starting off.....seen them so many times and they have NEVER played a bad gig......amazing band.
He's red because he's British and has been under the direct light of the sun for more than two minutes straight.
It makes me so happy to see you feeling and loving the music that I grew up with. I still feel that as a teenager in the 70s I grew up with the best and most creative music. Now I get the pleasure of seeing the younger generations getting the same excitement.
1983 us festival was an amazing concert especially metal day
JP is such a cool group who did decades of tunes....I love the early stuff and like the later stuff. Just incredible.
