JB always gives a great interview. I got to see him play his entire career, my pick as GOAT catcher. I love to watch footage of him working behind the plate. He looks like he was born there.

Johnny's the best. When I see you've interviewed him, I stop work and listen. So glad to see he is still sharp. I loved wearing #5 as a kid in Little League even though I wasn't a catcher. I'm pledging to see my dermatologist. Made an appointment for next month.

Johnny Bench had the kid’s MLB show “The Baseball Bunch” on Sunday mornings back in the late 70’s, early 80’s, and I never missed an episode. Johnny Bench is the best. Still have a few Johnny Bench Topps, Fleer and Donruss cards. One of the best catchers ever to play the game and a true ambassador of the sport.

I was a catcher in high school and college (mainly the live BP catcher on a really good team.). I wore #5 in high school but it was already taken when I got to college. I thought Johnny Bench hung the moon and I continue to hold him in high regard. A tremendous player and leader on a team full of leaders. But he never really answered DP’s question he just sort of danced around it. At least he didn’t have to dance around the Pete Rose question. But what a stud.

An odd fact about Reggie's appearance in the 1971 All-Star Game is that he wasn't originally selected to the squad. Carl Yastrzemski, Tony Oliva, and Frank Robinson were the starting outfielders voted in by the fans, but Oliva was injured, and Earl Weaver named Reggie as his replacement. Jerry Grote of the Mets was the National League's starting catcher in the 1968 All-Star Game, and Tom Haller of the Dodgers was the other catcher named to the NL squad.

    • @observer3232

Willie Mays was right. Bench should have been the starting catcher, although Grote was pretty good defensively.

Bonds completely shot himself in the foot as did Clemmons. McGuire maybe not, Sosa no. But Bonds for sure would have been in the Hall without the roids so why not just stay clean, keep your ego in check and you would be in the hall today.
