    So, no transfer case, front rear, drive shaft and the extra weight they add. But you have a winch when you need it. Simply awesome.

    Nice to see you’ve improved Betty’s drivability, durability, reliability, and credibility! Decreasing her fragility while simultaneously increasing her utility and flexibility is testament to your versatility, creativity, and eccentricity. Betty also maintained her femininity! I’m sure collectively, we your audience, feel an affinity (if not a responsibility) to enjoying the publicity with which expose each new video’s possibilities. To miss one now would be an act of futility! (I hope these comments aren’t met with any hostility.)

    Great vid as always. Currently searching for my own Dana 70 HD3 super. What was your search criteria when scouting the salvage yards?

    • @SlowRoamers
      @SlowRoamers  9 месяцев назад +3

      Nice! Basically all I did was rip through the yards looking for 3500’s, with a quick glance at the hub I could usually tell if it had an axle like what I needed. Best to get under and look at the axle tag. There’ll be a “ratio” and “diff” on the tag if it says std under diff that means it’s open, if it says loc then it’s a locking diff.

    If you weren't interested in doing much of a lift (I feel like my Express is high enough as it is, and my build is VERY light, not even close to payload, which upgrades would you recommend? Everything is stock at the moment. It's a 2011 Express 3500, former police van. I do some off roading, of course. No plans to rock crawl anytime soon!

    • @SlowRoamers
      @SlowRoamers  9 месяцев назад

      I believe WTD offers a 2” lift which is a nice way of getting a little bit more clearance and will allow you to clear 265/75/16’s with minimal trimming. Just having more clearance and knobbier tires is a really great start. But, ultimately, it depends on where you want to be able to go. If it’s just a matter of driving down some gravel roads from time to time, the focus on tightening up your suspension. Good shocks, aftermarket bump stops and new steering components will go a long way to make your drive feel a lot better. You could talk to the guys at WTD about doing a progressive spring for your van that doesn’t lift it much, but you’d still get the stability and ride quality of a progressive leaf pack.

    • @travelingwhilebutch
      @travelingwhilebutch 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@SlowRoamers Thanks for the answer Alex! This gives me things to think about. I am adding Sumo spring bump stops (Baja destroyed my stock ones) and looking at how to make my suspension a little tighter. I don't want bigger tires. I like my 18-20 mpg I get on my van right now, so that's also why I want to keep it fairly stock.

    How does your rear end compare to the G80 in my 3500? Also, have you done any mods under the hood or on the transmission?

    • @SlowRoamers
      @SlowRoamers  2 месяца назад +1

      I’d have to drive a van with a g80 in it to know for sure, but I find the LSD hooks up and grabs whenever I need it to. It’s been a really great addition thus far. There’s been no other modifications to the engine or trans.

    • @mattmccallum2879
      @mattmccallum2879 2 месяца назад +1

      @@SlowRoamersthanks! I just learned my g80 is a locker, I’m guessing they’re probably similar except for mine being a 3.42

    • @SlowRoamers
      @SlowRoamers  2 месяца назад +1

      The g80 will actually lock both wheels. In the event of lifting a wheel, both wheels will spin whereas with the LSD that lifted wheel won’t spin.
