SLOW ROAMERS
Канада
Добавлен 16 окт 2016
Hey, we're Alex and Megan, the Slow Roamers. We're all about diving headfirst into life, chasing experiences that make it pop. Our secret? Embracing tiny living to unlock a larger-than-life existence. Our cozy home? An old delivery van affectionately named Betty. Together, we're exploring the Americas.
Alex feels most alive in wide, open spaces. He's a master at not just exploring but also building things, especially vehicles that help him reach those picture-perfect vistas.
Megan has tasted the corporate life, decided it wasn't her jam, and opted for something much more mouthwatering. Food is her love language, and cooking is her art form.
As for Betty, she's no ordinary van. A 2WD Chevy Express 2500 turned into an off-road champ. We're all about pushing limits, testing Betty's mettle, and seeing just how far her wheels can take us.
We're the Slow Roamers, our gig is about wide horizons, scrumptious eats, and unraveling the essence of the Americas.

The Road of Misery | North Canol Road
Shortly after arriving in the Yukon this summer, we learned of an old oil pipeline road that goes from Ross River, Yukon to the Northwest Territories. It's called the Canol Road and there's an abandoned army truck graveyard there. here's hoping we're gonna get two birds with one stone: making it into the Northwest Territories again AND seeing cool abandoned army trucks. Or, will it be more like double trouble? Little did we know, we'd need to drive the ROAD OF MISERY to get there!

Delving into the Remote Canadian Arctic | Travel Documentary

To go all the way from the top to the bottom means first you must go to the top. In our case, the top is Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories and the bottom is Ushuaia, Argentina. The final leg of our journey north is the Dempster Highway, an 890km gravel road from Dawson City to "Tuk" on the Arctic Ocean. Some consider this the most dangerous and remote highway in all of North America, but it al...

After leaving our friends in Cantwell, we're headed east on the Denali Highway. This is undoubtedly one of Alaska's hidden gems. It's a wondrous place. Vast. Ancient. Beautifully untamed! And this week, it's also Meg's birthday. Wild blueberries abound. Don't miss her birthday dessert: lemony blueberry sweet rolls. And for the birthday dinner? Burger bowls. Oh, and we also had to don our birthd...

Abandoned and Discarded History in BC’s No Man's Land

There is a stretch of land that lies between Yukon and Alaska that we like to call "No Man's Land", a term often used to describe an inhospitable area affected by either war or disaster. In this case, it's an uninhabited, unconquered stretch of land in northwest British Columbia that now holds the keys to our hearts. Come along with us as we explore, hike and wander through this truly special p...

Treacherous Telkwa Pass Exit | Northern Canada Van Life

After succeeding a "4x4 Access Only" route through the epic Telkwa Pass in northern BC, we found ourselves at an incredibly beautiful remote mountain lake. I'm going to have to quit commenting as I find it harder to come up with the descriptive words to describe what you provide me with each "videoblogosphere" documentary. It's too bad that the Discovery network hasn't reached out (I imagine that would really cramp your style) Love you both, safe travels and bless you both!!!
Liked the foot stool/ garbage bin. Smart use of space
Meg is an amazing cook. Will a "Fine dining on the road" cookbook follow?
Beautiful scenery, and arough section of road for sure.Hope that you are able to get the parts that you need and can fix it. Safe travels!!
We’re on the fixes already!😁 The rough road was well worth it for the scenery. Thanks for watching Jackie!
Did you see MacMillan Airstrip and the mine right near the airstrip? You don't mention it in the video.
Unfortunately we didn’t. We were honestly too exhausted and short on fuel to do any more exploring than we did. Just another reason to go back I guess.
Omg, I love the old trucks in this video!
So cool, right?!
What a beautiful area, definitely memories made good or not so good but that road was miserable! Thanks for sharing. Safe travels 🙏
Ha, yeah! I think it was good memories…mostly. Thanks for watching, Brent.😁
Very good video 👍🏼👌🏼
Thanks Carlos!
Another stunning video, thanks guys ❤
😁😁😁 thanks so much!
Mahsi Cho!!! I watched Amanda do this last year... And she too ran out of gas going slow... Such a beautiful part of my Birth Territory that i hope to do one day!!! Safe travels. 🖖🏽🧡🐾🚐
Yeah, Amanda is pretty badass for going that far out alone. We sincerely suggest it, it’s a very beautiful trip in the fall, just go better prepared than us.😁 Thank you for watching.
Yes it is.. to me its Express gargo van
🙌🏻🙌🏻😁
I literally cackled at homemade dumpers.
NOM NOM NOM!
Excellent video, editing and music choices. Like you, I only found out about the Canol Road when I stopped at the start and checked it out. I wasn't prepared to drive it since I was on my way to Haines Junction and Kluane National Park. Drove up to the Yukon twice from the Toronto suburbs. New subscriber.
Toronto suburbs eh? Yukon is a looooong way from home. I guess you’re gonna have to go back then eh? 😁 Thanks for watching and following along Steve!🙌🏻
@@SlowRoamers I'm thinking about it.
Think…there is no think. Do. - Yoda (in a different universe)🤣
Nice... Still vanlife going strong?.. updates? This Chevy Express life/camping is my future 👍 i mean our future 😊
Oh yeah, for sure. Ain’t stopping for another few years.😁🙌🏻
Foresty Forest essentially has the same rig.
Well…yes, but also no. His is a 2012 (not entirely sure on year) Quigley conversion with a 6.0L and a low top. But yes, a Chevy express.
Remote and gorgeous. Another enjoyable episode. Over 18.3k subs!! 20k just around the corner. Keep up the good work, M & A!
Yes indeed! Thanks for watching, friend! It would lovely to catch 20k soon, let the ppl know. 😁
The road was rough for driving but the valley was artistic colourful and mountains very pictures. Fantastic journey 💕☺️😊
True! Sometimes you have to endure the ugly to access the beauty. 😊
The views were amazing, but that was a long trek. We have driven on roads for longer than 12 hours, and even rough roads, but I don't think we have done a jounrey quite that rough for quite so long...? Potholes are brutal to a vehicle, and I sure hope your friends' van survived - their van doesn't have the upgrades yours does! Thank you for sharing your trip with us. Oh, and my husband Ron loved the vehicle graveyards too, often pointing out parts and vehicle types at the same time as Alex lol.
So glad you enjoyed the film! That road really has to be the roughest, slowest road I’ve ever endured for that long and that’s saying something. Well worth it for the beauty and remoteness though. Say hi to Ron for me and ask if it was a dodge power wagon or not.🤣
Not only does Meg serve up mouth-watering fare day after day, week after week, Alex you also keep serving up great videos with amazing variety .. short ones, long ones, medium length ones, landscapes, drone footage, van stuff, storytelling, introspective prose. Both of you, your creativity knows no bounds. This is a truly superb channel. Loving the ride!
Thanks ol’man, see you soon for coffee.😊
Man you have fab'd a great home on wheels. Your van reminds me of living on a boat. Total bugout vibe.
🙌🏻🙌🏻 Thanks so much! I’ve got the boat interior comment a lot from throughout my various builds…seems I like boat interiors.🤔 Thanks for watching!
Man that rode looked brutal to drive on the poor van. But man those cinnamon rolls & dumplin's looked good. Thanks for posting again for me to ride along. And safe travels till the next one i'll be waiting
Rough but worth it. It certainly was nice to have good food to curb the fatigue while we were out there.
The road may have sucked but the scenery was amazing! I'm sitting here next to a mountain stream in Idaho waiting for the Northern lights and you delivered a pre-show!
Haha, yes, you’re absolutely right! Right out of the Silver linings playbook. I hope you catch the lights! Thanks for watching Sarah!
Thanks for another amazing episode the scenery and isolation are incredible, just to imagine what it was like back in 1948... The road is tough , although the experience will be with you for the rest of your lives.... I am looking forward to being able to drive the Canol Road... especially in the fall to see the colors... Looking forward to your next episode.
Thanks for watching Nick! The scenery is most certainly worth the rough drive. See you next weekend 😁
With that amazing scenery and beauty, it seems well worth the road you traveled.
Oh for sure! Thanks for watching Valerie!
Tough road for sure.. but those views made it a bucket list item for me. Also Meg eating something yummy always makes me smile :)
😁😁 Doing hard things is worth it. The Canol definitely takes you into a very remote area and it’s super cool being out there and knowing you’re so far from anything. I was feeling pretty tickled to be out there with a chef as a fiance, making comfort food in the middle of nowhere.😊
What camera do you use, sony or fuji?
Sony a6700
Wow! Another beautiful video and narrative. Thank you for the beta about the road. The scenery looked spectacular and the isolation bliss. Meg, once again we are so impressed with the creative dishes you make! Amazing! Love you all, looking forward to following more of your wonderful and beautiful journey. Sending good thoughts from Charlievan, Louisa, Ben and the pups.
Thank you, friends. Looking forward to seeing you both and the pups again soon. 😊
OMG Meg. You made dumplings! DUMPLINGS!!!
In the van, in the middle of NOWHERE!!🤣
Props to Ross River for having dumpling wrappers in their tiny general store for $2!!!!
Amazing ❤
Thanks Alex!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Damn, nice cinnamon buns!!
Thank you!! They were probably the best ones I’ve made in the van so far 🤤
Can confirm: delicious. Excellent birthday dessert
Enjoyed your video-man, that was one rough road! FYI We like this length video better than the longer ones. ❤ Are you an English major, Alex? Your descriptive vocab is IMPRESSIVE!
lol, yeah, we won’t be making feature length films all the time, only when the trip is deserving of it. Needless to say, it’s A LOT of work. I don’t have a major, but I was working on a minor in writing in another life. Thanks for watching!😁🙌🏻
Great video! Thanks for being an inspiration for editing my Great Divide Trail thru hike. The effort and polish you put into your videos is incredible!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻Thanks so much! It’s always good to know ppl appreciate the effort and work we put into these videos. It’s not for everyone to create what we do, but I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Good luck with your video 👊🏼
If you like pumpkin, spread 6 tablespoons of puree, sprinkle nut meg, cinnamon and glove. Roll up, add to pan, pour lite lather of heavy cream, sprinkle with pecans on top and drizzle maple syrup over pecans. Yummy pumpkin rolls!
Oh my goodness, that sounds delightful! I’ll forward that to Meg asap!🤣
Holy moly, thanks for the idea, yummmm!
You have my blessing for making pumpkin rolls.🤣
🚐😊👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
😊😊✌🏼
So what you’re telling us at the end is, the best part of the trip was the food? 😉☺️❤️
Hahaha, you read between the lines beautifully there.🤣🤣🤣
😛😛😛
Just found you guys!!! Love your intro! Drone shots are sweeeet!!
Radical! Glad you found us. Enjoy the ride my dude!✌🏼🤙🏼
Great video guys I enjoy it and so relaxing love those trucks 😊
Thanks for watching Christian!👋🏼😊✌🏼
Those cinnamon buns look amazing, recipe?
I think we’ll put a cooking video out sometimes in the near future. So, stay tuned to that. 😊
I used Ambitious Kitchen’s best cinnamon rolls ever recipe.
@@SlowRoamerMeg haha! that's the same recipe I have used, it's already printed in my recipe binder
It’s the best yeasted cinnamon roll recipe on the internet, in my opinion 🤤
And you should definitely make them again!
WHAT YEAR IS YOURS??????????????
2006
Wow looks like a great time guys.
Haha, well, yes and no. It was struggle street for a long while, but the experience was worth it.
Hi Meg & Alex, I'm really enjoying your videos, so glad I subscribed! Rachel
Whew! So glad, thanks for watching Rachel.😁
This is it !! Rock on lol.
🤘🏼🤘🏼Thanks for watching!
Another "winner!" Thanks for taking me along. Such a beautiful, remote place. I am envious... I am surprised that you don't see more wildlife?
Thanks for watching! Oddly enough, we saw very little wildlife during our entire trip north. Not sure why…🤷🏼♂️
Great info on thanks
Thanks for watching!🙌🏻
Breathtaking views… if I had a chance to get there once, I wonder, how long will it take to soak enough of that beauty to finally be able to leave?… would difficult driving make it different? I will never know, but those snowy picks and golden river valleys are magical. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! If we do go back, it’ll be for a longer period of time. I think that’s the best way to experience that area, lots of time.
🤗❤️🧔🤗❤️👩🤗❤️🚐
👋🏼👋🏼😊✌🏼
The Canol Road is on my list for 2025. I have wanted to go ever since I first heard Stan Rogers sing about the road when I was seven. I didn't get to go the last time I was in the Yukon, and now, after seeing this, I definitely won't make that mistake again!
It’s a super cool adventure, just heed my cautionary tale. Bring lots of fuel, water and food. Every hunter we passed had multiple Jerry cans in their trucks, obviously fully aware (unlike us) that it would a long haul out. Thanks for watching, Josh!🙌🏻
@@SlowRoamers Thanks for the tips! I have a 100L auxiliary tank that I will be sure to fill up before the road!
@@SlowRoamers also, what tire pressure did you run on the road?
We were running our typical gravel pressure (30/35psi), it after going through it all, I wish I’d run our sand pressure of around 20/25psi…
@@SlowRoamers oooh good to know, I will run some lower pressures when I get up there!
