Nice! It’s a great lift, i highly recommend. If you follow the link in the description and purchase from the WTD website we’ll get a small kick back. Thanks for watching and good luck with the build!🙌🏻
Thanks for showing the details. Those little things like seezed bolts always get me. Do you have a limited slip diff on Betty? If it is the stock chevy one, how has it wotked for you?
We’re actually in the process of doing a rear axle swap right now, just waiting for new gears. The new axle has an auto locking g80 diff. Not sure how it does quite yet, but we’re headed to Baja right after so we’ll have plenty of time to find out:
@@SlowRoamers Thanks for the reply and good luck with the swap. I presume this means you had an open diff up until now? It seems the G80 is the only option the Express has that does not include more parts and money to go with a more robust option. So far half the people say the G80 is reliable for 90% of what is needed and the other half say its so weak or has limited life use. Love to hear how it goes. Weather has been great to head south this season. Merry Christmas.
@SlowRoamers I'm a Ford guy from way back but I'm looking at 1999 Chevy 3500 with the 5.7 (350) how do you like your Chevy and what engine does it have?
We have a Chevy Express all-wheel drive that I'm doing a Lifter on a special things, because we do a lot of overlanding, and actually just came from California last week
Love the content and quality of your vids! We’re going on year 3 of our Weldtec suspension on our E-Series Ford van and love it. Happy trails! @bajavan1
good job. Can you build me one? =) Like you, I have a 04 Express 3500 I am slowly rebuilding. I paid 5k for it and have already dumped 4k more into it. I did a lift and big tires with new suspension parts/brakes. We added a ladder and full size roof rack. Next is exhaust, engine tune up and then body work. I live in Northern Wisconsin and our vehicles rust. @@SlowRoamers
What model of FOX shocks did you end up going with? Can’t seem to find anything that is specifically designed for the express. Also is a lift required to fit these?
Can you run the stock 16” wheels with those lift spindles ? I know the brake rotors are already pretty close with the stock set up ? I just bought replacement wheels and new tires. Don’t want to have to do that twice.
We’re actually decidedly not swapping to 4WD. Namely due to price, but also because a swap like that doesn’t fit well into our time frame. I have only once wished I had 4WD and that was today in deep snow…🤷🏼♂️
@@SlowRoamers did you have to change the gearing at all? Get a tune to adjust shift points? I’m looking at doing their 5” lift soon, but running my stock wheels and tires to use up the rubber I’ve got left, then switching to 33’s.
Good question. We have to fit the van in a container when we ship the Darien Gap. The containers max height is 8.46’ and we have a Hightop now. Every inch matters.
It's pretty messed up that they wouldn't allow you to use their impact tools. Their day of need will come, and the same treatment that they did you will happen to them.
We're glad to see that everything went well the installation and how much you enjoy the kit! Thank you so much and we hope you have amazing travels!
LOVE IT so far! And we’re already getting after it on the travel end😁😁
Weldtec Rocks!!!
I work in the oil field in west and planning to travel in it
This is exactly how I want to build my van , 😊😊
Niiiice! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
WTD is hands down the best for Express and E-series vans!
Damn straight!!!
Well done on coil springs. 🍻
🙌🏻🙌🏻
I am doing the same thing to my 3500 2 x 4 chey van.

She will thank you along the way for investing towards her and showing love because after all, she's your home on wheels! Looks good big and tall 🙂
100% agreed. Buy once, cry once.
Did you have to get a front end alignment after the front spindle upgrade?

Nothing like brand spankin new FOX shocks! Weldtec makes great kits.
Totally agree!!

Nice work Alex. That's a big job in a day. Just found your channel..sweet to see your build and travels- Stephen
Hey Stephen! Welcome to the adventure!😁

Nice! Great platform to get out and about!
Yes, I seen you guys on Instagram but just found you on RUclips
Is a passport needed to travel to Baja Mexico
Great video! New sub! It was definitely not a project I'd take on, but it was fun to watch. Solid review.
Whew! Thanks for watching and following along!

Thanks so much! I’m so stoked on how much better the van handles. I really wish I had done the lift prior to going to Baja though.😂
Thanks Alex thanks Megan 😊
Thank you Dave!
Any chance you have a before and after photo showing the difference in height after the spindle installation? Thinking about this for my 2009 3500👍
You can check out my IG @roamlndr, there are plenty of photos of the van before and after.
Nice video, what is your gas mileage loaded?
Around 15mpg
Great thank you
great video, thanks for sharing, can you tell us the wheel and tire setup on your van?
Thanks for watching, Luis! They’re 265/75/16 BFG KO2’s on old centerline five spoke wheels. I don’t know the offset.
where did you get that front bumper? How much was it?
I built it.😁

What is everything so tight on you van shouldn’t need a breaker bar👍👍
What model of FOX shocks did you end up going with? Can’t seem to find anything that is specifically designed for the express. Also is a lift required to fit these?
They’re fox stage one shocks, but they’re made specifically for Weldtec Designs. You’ll need to contact them. You don’t need the lift to fit them.
Can you run the stock 16” wheels with those lift spindles ?
I know the brake rotors are already pretty close with the stock set up ?
I just bought replacement wheels and new tires.
Don’t want to have to do that twice.
We’re currently running 16” steel donuts, so I’d say definitely.
@@SlowRoamers great info. Thank you
I'm surprised you didn't convert it to 4wd. Check out off road design out of rifle Colorado
We’re actually decidedly not swapping to 4WD. Namely due to price, but also because a swap like that doesn’t fit well into our time frame. I have only once wished I had 4WD and that was today in deep snow…🤷🏼♂️
I have a 05 3500 what size rims and tires you have? from the research I've done the express has a oddball offset.
I’m using a 265/75/16, I don’t know the offset on my rims though. 😬
Next time I would recommend removing the wheel bearing bolts while the knuckle is still on the vehicle.
Yep, live and learn.🤷🏼♂️
Will this help to pull a travel trailer
I don’t think so. It doesn’t increase GVWR, it’s really for improved performance on the road and getting the vehicle higher off the ground.
Where did you buy the lift spindle from?
WeldTech Designs in San Diego
@@SlowRoamers thank you for your quick reply!! 🍻
@@richardleblanc5803 waaaaiiiit…were you messing with me?🤣
What size wheel and tires you running?
In this video, 265/75/16, however we’re currently running 285/75/16

Should’ve had a Milwaukee impact
That I definitely won’t disagree with 😂
Do you know the over all height?
Around 7’, sorry, can’t get much more accurate than that, the van has changed a lot since then.
@@SlowRoamers no problem thanks for the reply! Im liking the 3" lift would fit my needs for practicality to start with at least lol
Pretty cool! Did your fuel mileage go up or down?
Not enough to notice. 😁
Great work 💪💪
Are you a mechanic or have you been in the pass?
Just curious.
I just work on my own vehicle as much as possible because I can’t afford to have someone else do it for me.😊🤷🏼♂️
how much does a van like this cost ? lets say one whit a 100k miles
No idea, it’s a broad range. Maybe check out the blue book pricing.
I'm not paying twenty five hundred for spindles
Luckily you’re in the land of the free and don’t have to. 😁
@@SlowRoamerswhat a great response.
Betty oh Betty
She gettin BIG.
Use PB Blaster and get an impact, they’re cheap
👍🏼
@ did you say how much this was for parts? $
No, it’s on the website though.
He didnt have to put on longer brake lines
Nope. The brake lines are run behind the spindle instead of over top.
3 not 5 why?
Good question. We have to fit the van in a container when we ship the Darien Gap. The containers max height is 8.46’ and we have a Hightop now. Every inch matters.

All self taught
