  • A comparison showing off some of the poor dubbing/cutting that was done in an attempt to make the film more easily comprehensible for its wide release in July 1981, vs. the original sound mix from the film's November 1980 New York premiere.
The original mix is represented by the Criterion director's cut blu-ray, which has some tinkering to fix issues of some dialogue being nearly inaudible (due to the film's rushed post-production to meet the premiere deadline) but is otherwise identical to the actual original mix. You can still hear some errors in the Criterion mix that were fixed in the 1981 mix though, such as the very end of the line "There's hard times, jim." repeating slightly as the film cuts to the next shot.

Never realized there was voice over in the theatrical cut. No wonder why this movie got so maligned when it came out.

It makes absolutely no sense that Cully would respond to "going to warn Jim Averill are ye?" with "uh, yeah" 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Absolutely, hearing that is what motivated me to compile some of the worst instances of the dubbing in this cut, lol. Also renders the response "I'm headin' over there myself." more than a little strange.

Like I said in the description, the German mediabook special edition blu-ray, or the Spanish/French/Italian DVDs that have the cover with the faces in the clouds. You need to be able to play Region 2 DVDs / Region B Blu-Ray though.
