That was so sweet what you said about Karen! We enjoyed her during the 70s and beyond........I knew she was so special and unmatched by any other singer alive! I loved meeting her in October of 76 at our dentist office! She was so kind to this 24 year old fan from Downey, California.....she looked gorgeous beautiful kind and sweet to me ........amazing moment and so long ago! Excitement and Top of the World feeling i had...... Fast forward to November 1978 at the long Beach Terrace Theater when I attended their last LIVE performance and they sang MERRY CHRISTMAS DARLING! WOW WHAT AN EVENING....and to later find out I was in a select group of people who witnessed their last LIVE performance in November 1978!! I was so lucky and I knew it then too........I met a lot of celebrities in southern California but Karen was extremely special in my heart and in my soul! God bless her for always!
No one would ever dispute her glorious voice. What I see and many others see is what was behind her eyes. She was shrouded in a coat of pain. Her heart was broken somewhere along the way and I do not believe you can weave that thread through the human emotional landscape without a depth of hurt inside. She was so beautiful and was taught to hate her appearance, Can you imagine that? She sang with a clarity like the wind on a cloudless winter morning. And a heart like a warm hearth on a winter night.

@@ronibrowning7316 Since you have brought this statement up, Mr. Browning, this gives me an opportunity to ask you and our dear KC fans out there a rhetorical question. To those of you who don't know what I am referring to, a rhetorical question is a question that answers itself. Now, Mr. Browning, does it make good moral sense to restrict Karen from playing the drums? You have noticed I didn't say good business sense. As you are pondering this question, I will make it easy for you. The answer is NO. Somewhere we as society put business over someone's health and welfare. Forget the fact that we are ruining someone's life, we need that mighty buck. Sadly, to some people, money is their god. Yet, the love of money is the root of all evil. I personally didn't see any harm for Karen playing the drums or "adventuring out in a Solo career path" unlike some that rejected her solo takes only to make money off of them years after the fact. But hey, what do I know about the music business? I am just a God fearing, Christian Psychologist. After all, it's just business, right?💙
@@ronibrowning7316 First, I didn't want to come across to you as being so forward. I know you meant well and sincere. I just felt and still feel that Karen was somehow robbed of her talent. I am not pointing the finger at anyone per say. However, all that our dear, sweet Karen went through could have been avoided. Unfortunately, the love of money was definitely one of the motivators in her case. If given free reign, she definitely had the potential of furthering her God given talent. I might be speaking out of bonds here, but it seems to me that Karen was somehow caged or trapped against her will. She was searching to regain that control which was taken from her. I wish you the best. Karen was the reason I became a psychologist. Now retired, I am following God's will to at least help those who are suffering from this silent killer. 💙
@Richard EA thank you for sharing your thoughts. I agree that it was strictly business. I find it odd that she often talked about her songs as “products” like they were merely means to make money. Yet, she sang with such emotion as if straight into one’s heart. I am no pay psychologist, but I believe it was the pressure placed on her to be perfect in all ways as the undisputed focal point of the Carpenters was the essential reason she became anorexic. The video of her in Holland 1974 was beautiful, especially her drumming at the end, but the blue dress emphasized her pear shape at the time. I believe that she took to heart negative comments by critics and that drove her over the deep end of Anorexia Nervosa.
A beautiful woman inside and out with the voice of angel !!! It's a shame she died anorexia , all because they called her a chubby kid which she read in a paper !!!! Which apparently triggered the anorexia of in the first place !!!! Nasty, judgemental comments cost her life !!!! If people cud keep there nasty , judgemental thoughts to themselves !!!! And learn how to keep there big gobs shut !!!! This women this beautiful woman !!!! Wud have carried on singing , and wud have had her whole future a head of her, maybe a husband , maybe a few kids , we will never know now !!!! Because a life was wiped out through one nasty judgemental comment !!!! God bless you Karen carpenter you were beautiful inside and the out. The good die young !!!!! God only takes the best that is why he too you !!!!! 0x0x0x0
You could just hear the emotion in Karen's voice as she sang. It was as though she was feeling the emotion of the song as she sang it, and for some like "Goodbye to Love" and " I need to be in Love", I think she probably was. She wanted to fall in love, get married, and have a family, and , sadly, it just didn't happen.
