  • Utopia of the Seas is going to be one of the easiest ways to get to the Perfect Day at Coco Cay on weekend cruises. Its gonna be popular for families which means lots of kids, fortunately Royal Caribbean has opened Hideaway Beach to allow for an escape from the kiddies.

With the current exchange rate from CAD to USD, we try to avoid paying any extra money (especially at Coco Cay). We have been there 2 times now. The first time, my son and I did the thrill water park. The last time we were there, we didn’t get off the ship.

Hey, @SpicyKimchi -- given your comment, we'd *highly* recommend Virgin Voyages, 'cuz you sound like our kind of people! We've done 3 of them in the last year, with one more in November, and absolutely LOVE the adults-only, relaxed vibe. The food is *incredible* , the service is *impeccable* from cabin stewards to waitstaff , and I *promise* you will never cruise with kids onboard if you try this cruise line. Yes, they are a bit "premium" in terms of up-front cruise fare, but when you take into account that there are no added gratuities and *all* onboard dining is included, etc...the math makes them an equal to these "pay to play" cruise lines like Royal Caribbean...especially if you pay to exclude kids from your experience, for crying out loud!

People say Disney Cruise Line is expensive but include everything in price minus crazy premium resturants, spa and cabanas. When you add up all the nickel and diming RCL, Carnival and such do then it is same price it costs almost as much if not more. 75 for an adults area is a very unnecessary charge.

Tony, you called it: Virgin Voyages all the way. All the "advantages" you seemed to be excited about--the least of which is no "towel tracking" is exactly why we will sail VV every chance we get. "No kids" 24x7...plus a really chill, easy-going vibe, etc. We just cannot imagine that those of us who prioritize those things would choose any other cruise line! And nope--no affiliation with Virgin Voyages, just fans!

I don’t mind kids at the beach
Where I DO mind kids is at the late seating in the MDR and at loud music venues late at night. On our last cruise, we had late dining (8:30 pm) and BOTH tables next to us had toddlers and babies in strollers. Fussy, crying, wandering toddlers. We would have asked to be moved but there were small children everywhere. It made dinner miserable for us. We ended up going to the buffet to avoid them. Still children but at least we could find a quiet corner. THEN we’d go to our favorite venue to watch our favorite band at sea around 9:30 and there were the babies and toddlers again. They’d stay (wide awake, crying, screaming, wandering) until the show was over at midnight. There was no way to avoid the chaos. I saw several servers with full trays almost get tripped by these kids. Parents were oblivious. Cruising has gotten more and more stressful and unless we can find a more peaceful ship, we might be done after 32 cruises.

One word of caution, I had to leave the area for something, and when I came back the staff instructed me to scan my sea pass card. I figured that this would let them know that I had purchased the pass. It seemed reasonable. Instead, I was charged $72 which I didn't appear on my account until the next day. Cococay was one of the ports we stopped at on my first cruise in 1991 and WOW has it changed. If I recall correctly, back then it was a tinder port. What I do remember is there was nothing on that island. There were a couple grass hut style spots, a BBQ sat up and not much else. My ex sent me the now images and I was blown away by how different it is now. Back then, it was one of our favorite spots because it was like a quiet little private beach. But it looks really cool now too.

I don't feel it's worth more than what we paid in April and in October I plan to check out the hopefully quieter Oasis Lagoon. We'll luckily be the only ship there that day! That also would fuel my decision to purchase Hideaway or not.

  • @greggm6614

Because of the asinine dynamic pricing policy of RCI the price you pay will be determined by the ship you're sailing on and what time of the year you're sailing. In April we were on the Wonder OTS and the regular pre-cruise price was 50.00. We luckily were able to snag a 50% discount, so it was 25.00. Of course the best we could get the drink package for was 30% off, so it was still outrageously priced versus their competition.

We have kids, love them to bits and took them away on holiday when they were still living at home. The last one moved out 8 years ago and since then we’ve been going on adult only holidays. It cost more, but so worth it for a 100% relaxing holiday. A lot of people don’t get it though. You have to go on one to experience it first yourself, you can’t just explain the difference to someone. I wish cruise areas like The Retreat or the Yacht Club were adult only. Very annoying when you’ve spent all that money, to have your day on the sun deck spoilt by a couple of kids with no manners and parents with no interest

Castaway Cay has been the number one private island for decades.
But Coco Cay is a close second.

We were there in Feb of this year. Our honest opinion was that it wasn't worth the money. The heated pool was fine. The coconut shrimp were overcooked. It was a let down.

❤❤loving this! But somewhere on that island we went where there’s an infinity pool next to the beach with an awesome nearby bar. We had the best time!! No kids!! Super chill! Totally quiet!!🥰🥰

Looks amazing. I wish a cruise company had their own island like that in Australia. USA/Caribbean is too far away for us atm. Hate 14hr flights.😂

If it was during the summer or spring break, I would pay to avoid kids at the pool. Or just stay on the ship and enjoy fewer kids at the pool.
    But that swag is NICE!

We just finished a 10 day HAL Iceland - Scotland-England cruise.
There were, much to our astonishment, lots of kids on board, mainly english speaking, not dutch.
The only time we adults could enjoy the Lido Pool and the Hot Tubs (it was too cool a
during the cruise to use the outside pool) was very early in the morning.
All other times both water venues were totally taken over by the kids. The noise level was infernal!
Nobody was interested. The parents the least.
Even being in the food venues in proximity of the pool was painful to be.
Our next cruise will strictly be outside any school holiday and we only hope that there will not be many toddlers on board.
I would pay extra to have a no kids Island.

VV Bimini Beach Club? My thoughts exactly! Except no $64-75 upcharge on VV.

Skip the front beaches, take the tram to South Beach - much less crowded
